《Actions Speak Louder Than Fortune Cookies》83 - He Was There

An hour later, around 5:30 am for her and 2:30am for him, Rylee called Sebastian back, putting it on speaker.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Sebastian asked gently, carefully, as if he was afraid to rock the boat. He had had enough time to get his nerves in check after they hung up the phone earlier.
"It went well, you're on speaker by the way. I talked with that detective we spoke to in the meeting before, Josh. He took note of everything and they're sending out a few cars to patrol the area around our apartment and they're going to look over surveillance as well. But.." Rylee stopped for a moment.
"But what Ryles?" Sebastian asked.
"He asked if both Alexa and I had another safe place to stay. He suggested we maybe head out of town for the week...we were thinking of getting a hotel or an Airbnb outside the cit-"
"Why don't you both just fly back out here?" Sebastian thought aloud.
Rylee looked at Alexa and they both shrugged, not a terrible idea.
"It gets you out of the city...you'll be with Chris and I...there's security here..."
"I...yeah, I didn't think of that. But, we don't want to bother you guys during wo-"
"Rylee Ann Summers, don't you dare ever say you think you're a bother. You are anything but. Same goes to you, Alexa - whatever your middle name is - Davis."
Alexa laughed at the comment, "Quinn."
"Huh?"
"It's Alexa Quinn Davis. If you're going to threaten me with kind words at least know my full name," Alexa laughed.
"Noted. So...how about I order tickets for you both and send them to you Alexa? Get you girls out here tomorrow?"
"What about work though...We've gotta talk to Johnny. Sort this all out..." Rylee thought aloud.
"He's probably still awake to be honest, that guy never sleeps. We can try to call him... explain what's going on." Alexa replied.
"Okay. Seb, will Kevin be okay with all of this?" Rylee asked, worrying her lip.
"I'll make him be okay with it if he's not. And even so, he loves you girls, I'm pretty sure he wished you hadn't left LA in the first place." Sebastian commented, "Anddd done."
Rylee was about to ask what was done when Alexa's phone pinged with a notification about a new email, titled Tickets.
"That was quick..." Rylee said as she opened the email to view the two tickets Sebastian had bought for them, for tomorrow, well, today... at 12:00 pm.
"Look good?" Sebastian asked.
"Yes...thank you..." Rylee was starting to feel emotional about all of this again. She thought she had buried it down enough after they talked it all through with Josh, but having Sebastian be so involved with trying to make things okay just made her feelings of love and pride well up.
"Of course, love." Sebastian responded easily, "so, if you girls are good on your end, I'm going to go wake up the beast next door and explain what's going on. And I'll also text Kevin about it. But he won't care."
"Alrighty, we'll call you later, love you," Rylee stated.
"Okay, love you too, bye."
As they hung up, Rylee felt a huge weight just melt right off of her shoulders, she could've wept with relief.

Alexa and Rylee tried to get some rest but they couldn't catch a wink, so they decided to just start packing around 8:00. Rylee was extremely glad that she had a drawer full of clothes and basic necessities at Alexa's apartment since she was there so much. She didn't want to have to go to her apartment if she didn't have to.

In the middle of packing, Josh called the girls back to update them. Three police units ended up going out around the area for the last two hours, but didn't end up finding the man.
Though when they rolled through surveillance footage from that timeframe, they saw, from an ATM camera across the street from Rylee and Sebastian's apartment, that the man had shown up there. He stood along a wall of their apartment building for 45 minutes after Rylee's 'almost run in' with him on the subway platform.
Knowing this made Rylee feel sick to her stomach. He knows where they live. He waited for her...for 45 minutes before he gave up for the night. Michael is fucking insane. How could he find someone like this to help him...
Josh also asked if they had found somewhere to stay for a bit, and Rylee mentioned they were flying out to stay with their boyfriends in LA and he was surprised, saying with a chuckle, "Wow, I didn't mean that far out. But that definitely works."
He reminded them to call him with any new information or if anything happened, even in LA, and he would do the same, and to make sure not to tell anyone they were leaving, just in case.
They said their goodbyes and at this point, it was close to the ten o'clock hour. They'd have to leave soon to get to the airport so they'd have extra time to get through security.
——————————
By the time the six hour flight happened, along with the time change, it was around 3:30 when their plane landed at LAX. Rylee and Alexa were absolutely exhausted, from not sleeping the night before, to dealing with the flight and the time change, along with the fact that they had just dealt with the time change literally two days prior, they were dragging, existing purely on coffee alone.
Alexa texted Chris and Sebastian to say they had landed and Chris responded that they were outside the main gate, in Sebastian's rented Audi. When they walked through the sliding doors, they looked up and down the loading zone and for a moment couldn't find the car until they saw an Audi blink it's high beams, three cars down.
Chris and Sebastian both got out of the car when the girls got closer, pulling their significant other in for a tight embrace. Rylee thought she could cry. She hated the circumstances for it, but she was so happy to be back in Sebastian's arms. Safe and sound.
Sebastian took Rylee's face in his hands and just looked deep into her hazel eyes, trying to get any read on her. When, a breath later, it looked like she was on the verge of tears, he pulled her back into a tight embrace, hand drifting to the back of her head, sifting through her hair gently.
"Are you okay?" Sebastian whispered into her ear quietly.
Rylee paused for a moment and thought about how she truly felt. No, she wasn't really okay. She was walking and talking and surviving. But okay? Not really.
He practically felt the weighted pause she took before she shook her head that was leaning on his shoulder.
All he could do was squeeze tighter and nod his in understanding. They would talk in a bit, away from the prying eyes of the airport patrons milling around them.
By the time they separated, Chris had already put all the luggage in the trunk and told Sebastian they were good to go. Chris and Alexa hopped in the back seat while Rylee took the front and Sebastian made his way to the driver side.

The drive from the airport to the hotel wasn't very long, so soon enough, Chris and Sebastian were unloading the suitcases and carrying them inside with Rylee and Alexa following close behind.
Once they got upstairs they parted ways at their hotel suite doors and promised to call one another later to meet up for dinner.
Sebastian opened the door and guided Rylee inside, following right behind her with her suitcase. As soon as the door shut, Rylee slid down the wall and sat on the floor, practically curling herself up into a ball.
Sebastian sat down quietly beside her, pulling her into his side. And with that, Rylee cried. The weight of the last day and a half had finally broken open the dam full of tears Rylee had been holding back. They sat wrapped together like this for a while, just letting it out. After a while when the tears had slowed down and the room became quieter, Rylee spoke softly, looking at the ground.
"He went to our apartment."
Sebastian sat up slightly, enough to look at Rylee, "What?"
"Josh called me back this morning before we left. They followed surveillance footage from the subway to our apartment. And he was there. Waiting. For 45 minutes, before he decided to leave...which ended up, according to the ATM camera time stamp, being like 5 minutes before the patrol cars drove by."
Sebastian sat silently for a moment, absorbing this information. He knows where they live. That's not surprising. He's had a while to figure it out. Stressing about it right now won't help anything. The police know. Security is a thing. It'll be fine.
"You know, I never got to tell you how brilliant you were last night."
"Huh?" Rylee said, sniffling but sitting up to look at Sebastian.
"You knew someone was following you. So you didn't go home. That's the smartest fucking thing...and under pressure...I don't think I would've thought to do that."
Rylee leaned into Sebastian's shoulder again, she didn't know what to say. She hadn't taken the time to think about her actions. She was almost embarrassed by the compliment.
"Seriously Rylee. You're amazing. And I'm so unbelievably proud of you." He leaned over to press a kiss into her hair, "How about we head to the bedroom. Take a nap. Collect ourselves. And get dinner with the dweebs next door."
Sebastian stood up, offering out a hand for Rylee, which she took to stand up. He ended up continuing to pull her up and carried her bridal style through their suite to the bedroom.
He set her down gently on the bed and he climbed unceremoniously over her to the other side to lay down beside her, draping his arm over her stomach.
Rylee was surprised how much more relaxed and calm she felt in the presence of Sebastian. He was so soothing without even trying. She didn't think she could love him more.
She turned her back to him, pushing in closer to him to be the small spoon. And he helped, pulling her in ever closer and burying his face into her hair, the smell of her strawberry shampoo always being one of his favorite most comforting scents.
They both quickly fell asleep. Both finally able to take a real, relaxed breath for the first time in almost 24 hours.
——————————
Rylee woke to the sound of the suite door opening loudly. She looked at the bedside clock to see it was 7:30 pm. She then rolled the other way to see Sebastian standing in the doorway, collecting a handful of bags from something she couldn't see in the hall. As he spoke Rylee got out of bed.
"Yeah...thanks Natalia. I appreciate it...Nah, I think we can figure it out. Shouldn't be too hard. Thanks again Nat...Alrighty...I'll talk to you later. Bye."
He set the bags down on the kitchen table and started tapping his phone, texting someone.
"Hey you," Rylee spoke softly, stretching a bit.
Sebastian jumped, not realizing Rylee was awake, he laughed, "Oh my god. You scared the shit outta me."
"Sorry," she laughed along with him," she walked towards the kitchen to meet him, "What did you get?"
"I...Umm...should've asked first...but," he held out a black paper bag to Rylee, which she took, confused. "Take a peek."
She opened the bag and pulled out a brand new iPhone. She was utterly speechless. She couldn't believe he bought her a new phone.
"Th—thank you Seb. You didn't have to. This is too much."
"Well, in my opinion, nothings ever too much when it comes to you...but you needed a new phone, so, tada?"
"Well, thank you, Seb." She stood on her toes to kiss him.
"I also had my assistant, you know Natalia, grab Chinese on the way back from picking up the phone. She's a life saver."
"First, the fact that you have an assistant is mind boggling. And second, I thought we were going to dinner with the 'dweebs' as you so lovingly called them?" Rylee laughed.
"First, rude. I need help keeping my shit in check at work okay? And second, we were, but I decided I'd kind of rather just stay in with you...unless you'd rather go out, we totally can-"
"No, actually. Eating in sounds perfect. It's like you read my mind. Thank you." Rylee smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for another kiss.
They spent the rest of the evening together, eating their Chinese food and watching some random movie Netflix picked out for them. Sebastian always knew exactly how to make Rylee feel better.
It was always little things. Remembering her Chinese order, but always sharing bites of his. Logging into her Netflix profile to use her algorithm to find a movie instead of his. Sitting so close that they touched at all times on the couch.
Even as he watched the movie that was on now, she got more enjoyment out of just watching him. He would occasionally catch her staring and turn his head to smile at her, mouthful of food pushing out his cheeks a bit, and wink.
She loved this man with every fiber of her being. And she was practically bursting at the seams about it. She cuddled in closer to him as he took another bite, and he wrapped his open arm around her shoulder, pulling her in close, planting a kiss on top of her head.
