As soon as Finn entered the apartment he made his way to Rachel's room needing to see her face.

Rachel looked up when she heard him approach.

‘Hey’ she said.

‘Hi’ he smiled back.

‘How did it go?’ she couldn’t help but ask. Truthfully she didn’t care she just wanted to know that it had been done.

‘It’s done’ he assured her as he made his way into her room and took a seat on the edge of her bed.

‘Can we talk?’ he asked her. They had only began to scratch the surface of the problems they had he realized, and he couldn’t stand the distance that was between them and wanted to sort it out as soon as possible.

Rachel sighed and put her books down. There was still a week of exams left and Rachel still had her two most important ones coming up and right not she wasn’t getting anywhere with the study she was trying to complete.

‘Finn, I know we need to talk but I cant deal with this at the moment. I have a biology lab and written exam this week and right now I just want to concentrate on passing it’ she told him. ‘I know you have exams this week too so can we just let this go until our exams are over?’

‘But that’s a week Rach’ he replied shocked. Rachel wasn’t the type of person to avoid things so he was concerned as to why she wanted to avoid this. He knew that her biology exam was important but he also knew that she probably didn’t need to study as much as she was making out.

‘I know but that’s the best I can do right now’ she told him.

Finn stood up then he knew he wasn’t going to get anywhere with Rachel when she was in the mood she was in ‘Ok’ he whispered.

‘I have to make this my priority’ she told him in defense. She could read the hurt on his face and in the tone of his voice.

‘What about us, Rachel? we’re falling apart at the seams’ he turned to her, his eyes reflecting everything he was feeling.

‘I’ve never been your top priority before, Finn so what’s different now?’ she snapped.

Finn shook his head ‘That’s where your wrong Rachel, it’s always been about you’ he told her softly before turning and heading out of her room and into his own. He knew if he stayed that there would be another argument brewing and he didn’t want that. He would step back and give Rachel the space she wanted because wasn’t this what everything was about. Rachel passing and getting her dream job was why he’d sacrificed everything he wanted with her and why he had hurt her over and over in the past three and a half years.

Serena watched with hatred as Rachel walked to the front of the room and handed over her exam to the professor. She was the first one finished as usual and most likely she would top the class too. She couldn’t understand for the life of her how someone like Rachel Berry had wound up being Finn Hudson best friend. They seemed to be completely opposite but on the other hand Serena recognized Rachel as a weakness for Finn. Maybe if she could get friendly with Rachel she would be able to get the information out of her about who this El was that Finn claimed to love and had dumped her for.

Rachel sighed in relief when she left the classroom. Her exams were over; her college life was practically over too she thought happily. She was glad that the exam was easy and that she could get out of the room as quickly as possible, she had felt Serena’s eyes boring holes in her back the entire time and it was making her feel very uncomfortable. One thing she was glad for was that in a few short days she wouldn’t have to see Serena Michaels or her gerbil looking friend Tess Harding every again.

Rachel picked up the mail as she made her way back to the apartment. She noticed immediately that there was another couple of letters to her from some big companies all over America. They had been coming for months now and she knew that she was running out of time to respond to them. Some were offering her jobs others were offering scholarships to continue her doctorate. She had continued to put them off hoping that things would be sorted out between her and Finn and that they would be able to sit down and decide where they wanted to live together. Now she knew that she couldn’t hold of making a decision about her life anymore.

So popping the envelopes on the small dining table they had Rachel went and retrieved the rest of them and began the task of reading through them and working out which one’s were possibilities and which ones she could rule out straight away for some reason or another.
