《Distractions (Scrutinized Tanner x reader Fanfiction)》Chapter 13

"Grayton, I think it's time I finally let you go."
"What?"
Tanner was dumbfounded about what he was hearing. After 4 years of tormenting everyone around him and killing, Adam was finally letting Tanner go? It sounded alien -- fictional almost, that this was happening. After all, Tanner wasn't ever expecting to be put out of the debt he had for Adam.
The cold air of the office glided along Tanner's skin through his suit, it nearly made him shiver as the singular light illuminated Adam's face.
"You heard me, I'm finally letting your dumbass go."
"why?"
"Why else? You have worked off your debt, I no longer need you anymore nor do I have a reason to keep you around."
"But I- All the work I put in. Does that not matter anymore?"
"yep, it doesn't matter and it never will."
Tanner just sat there, letting the pain that came with being forced into retirement wash over him. He didn't want to stop working, why did this have to happen right now? While he sat there in thought, Adam took note of his silence.
"Don't think too hard on it, Grayton. I may have been hard on you and I may think your just some horny dumbass looking beanstalk that I hired to work for me -- But even dumbasses need to be let go eventually."
Silence. Adam just sighed.
"Think of it this way; You're finally going to go back to a normal way of living, you can work on whatever you want to and you can have a wife and kids. I know that's something you've wanted, and it's why I'm also having the best group of hackers we could hire remove your B.O.L.O..."
Adam paused, recollecting his thoughts and letting his mind wander for only a few seconds. He watched as Tanner's shoulders relaxed, but his face still read that he was upset.
"It's also why I'm going to give you at least 2 million dollars... You've worked hard, and I think you deserve it. It should hopefully help with whatever expenses you plan on needing, whether it be for family, education, or hell if we're being honest with you; porn."

"T-thanks." is all Tanner could muster, but his tone sounded hurt and unsure if he really wanted to accept this.
"I'm guessing your thinking about that girl, aren't you?" Adam said, his eyes narrowing.
"Depends, which one do you think I'm thinking about?"
"The one I sent you to stalk and get information out of. You seemed interested in her, way more than any past client. Not to mention your whole remark of having sex with her -- You've never said or done that to any past person."
More silence filled the air, which was all the proof Adam needed to know he was right.
"I can tell I'm right by how quiet you are. If I'm being honest, there's no shame in it -- as much as I ragged on her, it's not like she's bad looking. I'm sure you two will have lovely kids -- if any at all."
"Thanks..."
"Your welcome, Mr. Grayton. Now then, It's time you take your leave. It was a pleasure working with you -- Tanner."
Tanner opened his mouth to speak, but only closed it. No words could come out that'd even describe how he felt at this moment. He wanted to cry, he wasn't ready to leave and now he was practically being forced to. There was nothing he could do now, though and with that, he got up and left the room with the small envelope of money Adam gave him.

Tanner returned home to his apartment, a frown plastered onto his normally smiling face. "Hey, honey can you help me pack?" Y/N said from the other side of the room.
Y/N was packing to go back home. Ever since the police dropped the case, she had wanted to head back. By no means was it because of Tanner, it was simply because she missed her home and her friends.
"Yeah... sure," Tanner said limply, setting the envelope down on the table haphazardly and sappily walking into the room. It didn't take long before Y/N noticed it and looked over in concern.
"Tanner, sweety, what's wrong? You're not upset by me moving back, are you?" she said, wrapping her arms around the young man and rest the side of his head on her chest. Tanner couldn't take it anymore, the comfort overflowed and he began to wail like a baby again.

"N-no! I just feel like I've lost all control in my life!"
"Hey, hey, hey! calm down- don't say those things! I'm sure everything's fine!"
She moved the two of them over to the bed and sat down, soon forcing Tanner to lay down next to her and rest his head on her legs. Tanner's tears wet her pants, but she could care less about them -- it wasn't like they were expensive anyways.
"N-no everything I-Isn't okay! I'm going to lose you and I've already lost my job!"
"Huh?"
"Y-YEAH! A-A-Adam let me go because I paid off all the debt! but I was enjoying w-work, I-I didn't want to leave."
Y/N frowned, this is what it was about? She felt like it was a stupid reason, but from the stories, she was told by Tanner he was a lot more sensitive. Even as a kid, if he were upset about something-- he'd always show you he was.
"Tanner, there's no need to get so upset. Sure you lost your job but crying like a baby isn't going to do anything. Like my dad always said; "When the world shoves it foots up your rectum you don't let it win! you pull that foot out and you shove it in its mouth!" ... Now that I think about it that sounds very stupid..."
Tanner just sniffled and wrapped his arms around Y/N's waist.
"At least you had a dad, my parents abandoned me with my grandmother..."
"I know, you told me that. But that's not the point- my point is I'm not leaving without you if you're so scared of losing everything."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean you're coming with me and moving into my house!"
"B-B-But what about my own house that's being renovated?"
"Oh fuck that one. Sure it's big and nice but you have practically nothing in your apartment! What the hell are you going to use all those rooms for, more nothing?"
"They could hold your stuff..."
"Yeah right, all the stuff I could possibly need is right here and at my house. You, my clothes, and my computer. That's all I need to keep me going. Besides, think of how much money we could make selling that dumb think to some investor."
"I guess your right..."
"Your damn right I'm right, I can't remember a time I was goddamn wrong. Now c'mon, let's call your moving company and get your stuff out of here! It's time we get an even better life!"
TO BE CONTINUED!
A/N
It's time for me to speak again ew.
Honestly, I really don't want this to end but I know it has to eventually, BUT NO NOT NOW! But anyways, the series is coming close to its closing chapter which is scary because I LOVE writing this series.
To be honest, though, It has to happen eventually. Now, what's the future of my writing? kind of bleak honestly.
I'll probably write the requests until I get tired of them and don't want to continue anymore and then I'll probably never right again. I had originally planned a book on writing fanfiction and such but meh, It's not really worth it. YET AGAIN THOUGH;
This does not change, nor will it ever change.
do tell me if you've sent it though because sometimes my discord decides to be big stupid and not show me it. If it doesn't then just Message me your discord and I'll be sure to send you over the request. I
will most likely need you to start the conversation though, because I'm fucking awkward and having human interaction is scary.
But anyway, that's all I have to say and I'm excited about what you all will think of the ending when it finally arrives.
-Griff.
Ps: The first time this was published I fucking named this Chapter 11. So please advise: my brain don't work so good.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
