Alex's POV

"Are you ready yet?" I whined for the 20th time in the past 30 mins.

"Almost!" Megan yelled back.

"You said that 20 mins ago!" I yelled back in frustration.

It was the last week of camp and tonight was the end of summer dance. It's sort of a big deal and everyone goes all out like it's prom. Mainly because we all wear our prom dresses. Our camp is a bit different than what you would think. We are not out in the middle of the woods, our camp is on a college campus and it's only for high school students. While Megan and I along as our other group of friends had graduated a month earlier we were still allowed to attend as graduated seniors. The camp was a way to give high school kids a taste of what college was like while preparing us for the real thing. We took classes and lived in the dorms for a whole month in the summer. Because the campus was empty for the summer we had the run of the place until 2 years ago when some of the students got caught sneaking off to empty buildings to party, now we are restricted to what we call the big 3.

The three big buildings that housed the dorms, the rec center and the cafeteria. We're allowed to go up the hill to some of the other buildings but only during class times from 8am to 3pm, which completely sucks because I loved exploring this place. There is said to be underground tunnels that leads all over campus and before we got banned from wondering around we think we discovered one of the entrances. This place has felt more like home than my actual high school, I got lucky I was the only one from my high school here, everyone else was from different schools all across the state and I was so excited for fall. I had already got early admittance to the college and I couldn't wait to find the tunnels again.

"Ready." Megan said finally coming out of the bedroom.

"Wow, that dress looks amazing on you Megs." I told her

"Thank you, Oh My Gosh I love yours." She said

I looked down at my dress and I had to admit when me and Mom first saw it we both fell in love with it. I was a purple princess dress and while I'm the first to admit I suck at being a girl the dress made me feel like I was a princess which I secretly loved. I paired it with long white gloves that went to my elbows.

"Let's go." Megan said opening our dorm room door.

We walked down the 1 flight of stairs into the lobby. We learned when we were freshmen to get as close to the ground floor as possible as the building had no elevator. Every year it's the same all the freshmen want the top floors while those of us who trudged up those stairs when we were freshmen knew better. We could warn them, but where's the fun in that. They had to learn for themselves, it was the only way for them to learn.

After the squeals and thousands of pictures my friends and I danced for the next hour or so until we found ourselves outside getting fresh air.

"Hey let's go to the castle." Johnny whispered to us. We all looked at each other and smiled. Sure it was out of bounds, but we were all graduated seniors, 18 and there was 2 days left, what were they gonna do take our birthday's away.

As we snuck away from the big 3 I couldn't help but watch my friends laughing and joking around. We were an odd group that was for sure. But I loved it, it felt like it was the way it was suppose to be, the way every kind in high school craves for there to be no clicks and to get to be their selves.

There was 10 of us 4 guys and 6 girls, and if you broke us in to those stupid groups we had 2 goths, 3 rednecks, 4 preppy/athletic kids, and 2 as they called themselves normal kids. Yes I know that's 11 people but they all swear I'm both in the redneck and preppy/athletic kid group. I never saw my self as preppy, but I was a cheerleader and also a redneck. I've lived and worked on our family farm my whole life. I loved playing in the mud and I wasn't afraid of hard work. We all considered ourselves nerds because you had have great grades to get into the camp.

I kind of became sad as we walked, after the next 2 days most of us would never see each other again. I'd like to think we would keep in touch, but being the youngest of 5 kids with siblings a whole lot older than me, I knew over time as our lives took off we would drift apart just as my older siblings and their friends did.

We walked up to what was the only remaining piece of the castle that use to be here, it was a simple column, the stairs were long taken out and there was no roof, but the university kept it as a reminder of the past.

We posed for pictures around the outside then went inside for a few more. As everyone began to leave I stood in the middle and looked up at the sky and wished I could pause time so we wouldn't be separated, I wondered what we all would be doing in 5 years time.

I guess I took too long thinking because the next thing I realized it was quite, too quite. I couldn't even hear the katydids making any noise. I walked out of the column fully expecting for one of my friends to jump out at me, but as I looked around I didn't see anyone. I looked across the quad and could barely make out my friends in the distance. I rolled my eyes and started to walk back when I heard shuffling behind me. Smiling, as I thought it was one of my idiot friends, I turned around fast to scare them and my breath left by body at the stranger standing before me.
