《Why The Hell Not》Family Dinner

Zara
I swallowed hard as we stood outside his parents door. He already knocked so they could be coming in any minute. He told me to dress relaxed and casual but I don't see how that's realistic. I'm getting ready to officially meet his parents.
Now that I think about it, he never officially met mine. I have to get that set up some day.
I had on a red long sleeve sweater shirt with some nice fitting jeans. I decided to give my feet a break and wear some simple black slides. My long hair was lightly curled and I just had it down. I choose not to do my makeup, I don't want them to expect me to look like that on a day to day basis.
We were a little late because of Malakai. He said that Twilight was better than the Originals and I just wanted him to respectfully fuck himself! I still can't believe him for that. We got into a full argument about the subject, all sitting forgetting we had a place to be.
Soon the door started to open. I held his hand a little tighter as a beautiful woman came into view. Her face had a few wrinkles on it but she carried her age gracefully. She was a little taller than me, maybe 5'7 where I stood at 5'3. I could quickly see that Malakai had her eyes and a smile.
"Hello, darling! I'm Patty" She said, pulling me into a hug. I was shocked, but hugged her back. She smelt like cookies. "Come in your guys"
She pulled us inside the house that had a homey feel to it. It felt warm and inviting here.
Kai took my hand as she led us to the kitchen. I made sure to take in my surroundings, noticing every picture of Malakai. My favorite so far is the one with his diaper on his head! He had to be 1 year of age.
Once we entered the dining room his father gave him a small smile.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Kyle" his father said, reaching to shake my hand. He had a very firm handshake, you could tell he was an Alpha. He spoke with certainty and authority. He made sure to stand straight and look me in my eyes as he shook my hand. Zion always said to make eye contact while shaking anyones hand so they know you mean business.

His father didn't seem mean at all, he just screamed 'don't fuck with me'. He had to be 6'6 and he projected every foot.
The moment we sat down at the table there was a knock at the door. We all looked down the hall then back at each other.
"I got it, get the food together won't ya" his father said to his mate.
She smiled and looked over to me.
"Care to help me out?"she asked.
"Um yes, yes ma'am" I said, looking back at Kai. Almost like I was making sure it was okay. Really I was scared to be alone with her. He nodded at me, giving him a little confidence as I followed her in the kitchen.
Lord was it a gorgeous kitchen. It looked like one of them kitchens in the cooking channels, perfect.
She already had everything for the sandwiches laid out next to a griddle.
"How about you assemble and I toast them up?" She asked, getting behind the griddle.
"Sounds good," I said. Everything was laid out in order. It's no way I could fuck it up. All I have to do is go down the line.
"So, has he been acting like he's had home training?"she asked, with a little chuckle as I put together the first sandwich.
"For the most part, yes" I giggled.
"He's a good boy for sure. He means well, always trying to do the right thing. If he gives you any trouble just send him my way" she said.
"Just a random question. What are your thoughts on Originals vs Twilight?" I asked, starting on the third sandwich.
"I love both, but the Originals are honestly in their own category of greatness" she said.
I smiled realizing I like her already.
We finished with the last sandwich and added some chips to everyone's plate.
"Who's that one for" I said as I noticed that she was making a 5th plate.
"Abigail, she was probably the one at the door" she said, finishing her plate.
I fell into a silence as the thought of her messed with my head. She's out there with Kai. They're probably talking about how much better she looks than me.

"Are you okay dear?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, picking up Malakai's plate.
We walked to the dining room and sure enough there she was. Her purple hair was up in two ponytails that were curled perfectly. She had on some white overalls, but instead of pants it was a skirt. She had on a black shirt under it and Abigail won't be Abigail without some heels to match. I've never once seen her without heels. I know her feet hurt!
She was sitting by Kai, where I was sitting. Her head on his shoulders while he talked to his father. I could see her arms wrapped around his waist, holding him tight. I felt a big lump in my throat as I stood there.
"Foods ready!" Patty yelled, drawing attention to us. I stood there like a deer in the headlights. I know my face was beyond red.
Soon as she made eye contact with me she smiled, snuggling into him more. His father stood up and moved a chair closer to Kai then sat back down.
Patty placed everyone's plate down while I awkwardly sat in my new seat. I gave Kai his plate and tried my hardest to breathe normally.
"How has everyone's day been so far?" Patty asked, taking a bite of her food.
I quickly zoned out as everyone talked. Why did she feel so comfortable hugging my mate? He's mine! That shoulder she's laying on that's where my legs should be. My wolf started to growl and I just hope they can't hear it.
"You didn't touch your food, are you okay?" Kai asked, leaning over to me.
I looked over to him in disbelief. Her hands were literally rubbing in his chest. I felt overwhelmed! Why does she think this is okay?
"She could afford to miss a meal," Abigail mumbled. Apparently low enough to where it somehow skipped his parents.
That's it!
"Abigail seriously calms down. That's not okay. Kai said, making his parents look at us.
"Is there something wrong?"
"No, nothing wrong we were just talking about our sleepover tonight" Abigail said.
I laughed a little too loud at that, making her look at me crazy.
"Sleepover? Abi I'm sure Zara wouldn't like that" his mother said, looking over at me.
"And as an Alpha your mates feelings should always be something you consider" Kyle added.
I like them both already.
"I mean we have been having these sleepovers for years. I know you guys remember me here every weekend" she said.
"Well yes, but hun how would you feel if Charles had sleepovers?"
"If it was with someone he's known forever and loves I wouldn't mind. I would just go over Kai's house" she shrugged, leaning on him.
"Well we can't tell you what to do but you should take her feelings into consideration. I mean how do you feel about it Zara?" She asked.
"Oh I don't like it at all. We've already talked about it" I said, finally taking a bite out of my food. I feel better that they are on my side.
"You two talked about it? Then surely Kai told you that I'm coming over tonight"she said, gripping his shirt.
"No, I've been meaning to talk to you about this. We're not having them anymore. I'm sorry this had to be said right now" he said.
The look on her face was priceless. She looked confused and sad all at the same time.
"Because of this girl that you just met? She asked.
"Because of his mate, Abi. You have one too. You're not little kids anymore" his father said firmly. I can tell he takes mates very seriously. Most Alphas, or in his case, past Alphas do.
"But...but-"
"But nothing," he said, making her shut up.
Yep I love them!

Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here. Gods of Arkanoth
The hunter has been betrayed, left alone in the streets of a lugubrious district. Only one goal appears in his eyes: to avenge himself. In his quest to avenge himself, he'll encounter an enigmatic scientist who seems to hide his true nature, a savior pretending to be a God, and the terrible truth of those words, bringing him against something he'd never thought he'd have to affront. This is the odyssey of the hunter, in a quest to put a long overdue end to a war between two worlds. // What to expect:The beginning will surely be intriguing, most of what's happeing won't be directly explained, although there will be some hints about their true roles, but do not worry about some subjects never leaving that misty fog that is unanswered questions! The novel is divided in two parts, the first focusing on uncovering the well-hidden secrets the city of Arkanoth hides, be it concerning its making or its inhabitants. As for the second part, it will be an expedition into the unknown, we could, in a way, say the true start of the journey our three heroes will undertake! I won't say anything more about the second part or else I might tell you an important detail without realizing... As for magic, because yes, there is magic! Although you might not see the shadow of a spell in the first chapters, it will appear in later chapters and will be one of the main subjects of volume 2. There are three heroes, yes, but they will not appear directly. While the first two protagonists appear in quite the beginning, the third will take his time, taking some stroll in the Districts of Arkanoth while we focus on the story of the hunter. But that does not lessen his importance in the story a bit, trust me. What about these three heroes, you say? Well, they all have their own issues, from their character to their torments, and as the story progresses they will have to come clean with their past (character development is to be expected) and will find their reason for fighting, braving all odds. I draw my inspiration from mythology, more precisely Aztec mythology. I want to stay true to a certain extent about it and all the relations between the gods and their role, however I will still change some things to my liking, so do not expect for all of the mythology to be respected to the letter. Finally! I have to say English is a foreign langage for me, so I might not choose the best words or straight-up miswrite something, if it bothers your experience, just tell me in the comments and I'll look into it! It is also my first time writing a book, so some parts might seem sloppy, but I hope I will be able to improve throughout this journey so as to give the most enjoyable reading experience to you. // Who might enjoy this story: Firstly, if you like deep lore and stories in which past plays a big role, you will like how everything unravels to show the hidden truths of the world. However if you do not appreciate not instantly understanding what's happening or who - or even what - this person might be, then you might not appreciate the story. There will be disturbing and gore descriptions, so if you're sensitive, don't like reading about someone being beheaded and such, you should probably pass this one. There is strong langage, although I won't abuse it, I won't be lying saying no insults will appear. Finally, the heroes will not always win, they will sometime lose battles, be it important ones or unimportant, and they will, most of the time, not come out unscathed from those. // Time Schedule : once every two sundays at 7:pm Ps : feel free to tell me if something is bad, or feel wrong with the book, it really helps me. I've written till' chapter 4 (in my mother tongue, so I'll still have to translate), however I'll make some minor and major changes, thus it will take some time to post them. Schedule will probably not change after releasing chapter 4, so don't worry, it won't take even longer to post a chapter than it already is. Enjoy the ride :)
