《The War of Spirits》Prologue

Elden wept over the dead body of his wife. The tears fell hot and heavy as he held his newborn son tightly to his body.

"I wish I could be there for you," he said to the body, gently stroking the cheek of his late wife.

A cry came from the bundle in his arms, "Don't worry, we won't be staying in this house of death for long. It will be alright."

Looking back at the body, Elden wiped away the tears from his eyes, "I can't bury you. You know there's no way for me to move a body out fast enough. But know that I love you. And our son will be protected from everything that has happened."

Elden bent over and gently kissed the cold dead body on her forehead. A moment later, he was covering up the baby's vision so it did not see the dead bodies scattered throughout the hallways. The baby began to cry.

"Hush, little one. I know the smell is rather strong. The human body is disgusting in death. Humans are rather disgusting in life, too, to be fair. But we'll be having that conversation much, much later."

Upon leaving the mansion, Elden began running. It was going to be a very long night, but Elden had no choice.

"Would you like to hear why we're running through the woods in the middle of the night right after your mom was murdered?" He asked the sleeping babe sardonically.

Elden sighed as he stopped to catch his breath. "Nah, I don't need to explain the whole story. It's far too sad and depressing. Let's say your Moms family hid her away. Then my family tried to kill both you and her. Somehow, despite my best efforts, your mom died." at this point, Elden was spitting words out quietly so as not to wake the baby.

He took a deep calming breath. " It's alright, though. I'm going to take you somewhere far away from all of this mess. I promise you will not have to worry about any of this."

The man wiped away angry tears as he stood up from the fallen tree he had been sitting on and began running again. One day he would be back to seek fuller revenge than just bodies strewn within that mansion. But that would have to wait until his boy had grown up.
