World 1-5: That time when I was reincarnated into another world, and saved the town from skeletons

This was terrible! What kind of crazy kick-ass fantasy gamer lit-RPG world had Kamiko thrown me into, if the Idyllic Starter RPG Generic Town was being attacked by skeletons right off the bat?! I ran past down the street, throwing up dust and tearing up cobblestones in my [Windrunner]-boosted haste, instantly falling into a perfect runner's stance as I went. The townsfolk shouted in surprise as I tore past, the dresses of busty anime babes flipping up in a completely unnecessary but physics-endorsed display of gratuitous fanservice.

But I had no time to stop and ogle pantsu; I'd have to leave that for the viewers! I had a town to save. I leaped over a building in a single bound, bolstered by the [Hopmeister] skill and the inherent jump bonus provided by my [Jump King] Title. I cleared the three-story building and landed in a totally sick dodge-roll on the other side, landing in a crouch. That was perfect, as Kamiko was hailing me, so I needed to take the call anyways.

I raised my hand to the back of my neck and opened the channel of my CODEC. The CODEC wasn't one of my skills; I live in the future, so everybody has one. Mine was a simple plug-in model I bought from C-Mobile.

"Kamiko!" I shouted, "The Adventurer's Guild is under attack! By skeletons!"

"Oh crackers!" she swore. "This must be the work of the Demon Lord!"

"Demon Lord?!" I repeated, "Do you really think the Demon Lord is behind this attack?"

"It has to be the case, Hiro-kun. There's no way that trouble could be caused by somebody other than the Demon Lord or her flunkies. We can't spare the narrative complexity to have any ills of the world not be directly attributed to a villain you can defeat using violence."

I nodded. That made sense to me. "That makes sense to me," I said. "Your jingoisms are both rational and compelling."

Still, I wasn't sure if I was ready to fight the Demon Lord just yet. After all, that sort of thing is meant to happen at the very end, isn't it? I hadn't even gotten started on my kick-ass fantasy RPG Isekai adventure in another world (TL Note: "another world" means Isekai).

"Don't worry," Kamiko said reassuringly, having heard the disgruntled expression showing on my face, "I don't think it'll be the Demon Lord in person. It'll most likely be one of her lieutenants, the Elite Fours."

"There are only four of them?" I asked. That wouldn't be so bad, if I only had less enemies to defeat than I had fingers on a hand. However, my unworry was soon to be reworried, as Kamiko was quick to correct me.

"No, they're just all 4/10s. We're talking real paper-baggers, Hiro," she clarified. "There are forty of them."

Forty?! That was as many as four tens. And that's terrible!

"Choutto wait a second, Kamiko. That seems like way too many dudes for me to handle."

"They're not all here right now, Hiro. If you beat them off one at a time, I think you'll finish faster than you would have expected."

Kamiko's words were hard to swallow, but I had wasted enough time already. I had to hurry to the Adventurer's Guild. The world was in peril!

I hurried along the street, making sure to knock over as many fruit carts as I could, both for the speedrunner strats, but also because causing malicious mischief was cathartic in a way that is as satisfying as it was hard to quantify. Besides, the stalls belonged to fruit vendors. They know what they did.

Before long, I came to the Adventurer's Guild and drew my fists from their scabbards. I grinned a smile on the outside, but on the inside, I was doing the opposite, grinning a frown. My fists were very powerful weapons, but they had basically no range, and more importantly, I couldn't use any of my cool weapon [Skills] on them.

I could only use my cool Unarmed Combat [Skills] on them, and relying on any sort of combat technique which left a chance of me not winning instantly and risking any level of physical harm worried me intensely on account of my deep-seated inferiority complex and complete lack of self-esteem. It would have been good for me to confront these personal insecurities, but it would be even better for me to ignore them entirely and drown them out with wish fulfillment and power fantasy, the better to establish a rapport with a disenfranchised theoretical reader-base.

I ordered a [Gun] off of the internet using [Sahara Prime]. It should arrive in two days.

But two days wasn't soon enough. It looks like for now I'd have to risk it all! I activated my [Manifest Extra Arms] skill to grow 10 arms, and used [Create Weapon] to create 12 ethereal swords. These swords were powerful, but they would only last as long as I had MP. I checked my Stats...

And there was no way I could have been wrong in my deductions. No, the answer was much worse. My blood ran colder as I realized the truth of the matter.
