Chapter 2 – 1
Guild Registration
[Author’s Note]
Chapter 2 begins.
I opened my eyes and the familiar ceiling of my usual inn room came into view. It was still dark inside the room, as the sun had just started to rise outside.
As I woke up, tears rolled down my cheeks. I roughly wiped them away with the sleeve of my pajamas. It was a dream I occasionally had, ever since that day 3 years ago. Even now, I still feel terrible after having it again. I stretched sharply to try and drive the feelings away and took some deep breaths. One breath, two, three…
“Okay! Today’s an important day, so let’s get washed up and go.”
After I changed into my training clothes, I left the room. The staircase was right next to my room and as I descended, a man had just left the kitchen. We greeted each other as we entered the dining room.
“Good morning”
“Oh, you’re early today Tenma, good morning.”
This man, Dozle, was the innkeep of the “Full Belly Inn” which I had come to rely on. Formerly a veteran adventurer, he retired 10 years ago after he got married. As you might expect from that kind of name, he was a tough guy. Because he often gave new adventurers advice, he was idolized by many of them in the city.
After I parted ways with Namitaro, I spent a year wandering aimlessly, bouncing around various towns and villages. Two years ago, when I came here to 『Gunjo City』 I decided to make this my regular inn.
Gunjo City was in the “Dutchy of Sanga”, located west of the Hausto Frontier Earldom, but separated from the border by some number of smaller territories.
“I’m still preparing the meal.” Dozle said.
“That’s fine. I wanted to sweat a little in the garden anyways.”
He said that he understood and went back to the kitchen.
The ground floor of the inn had the reception area, dining area, and kitchen, while the second floor held the shared rooms and floors 3-4 were for private rooms. Dozle’s house was right next to the inn. A night’s stay in a private room with 2 meals included ran 500G, or 300G for a shared room. It was cheaper than most other hotels in town and the food was delicious, so it was a very popular inn. It acted more like a restaurant during the day, and it was said they served good drinks at night, so it had a good reputation too.
I went out to the garden and headed to the well, scooped up some water and washed my face. I then opened the Dimensional Bag, and woke up Shiromaru and Slalin who had been sleeping inside.
“Good morning Slalin, Shiromaru.”
“Wan!”
Shiromaru barked in response to my greeting, and Slalin wiggled his body.
In front of the two of them I place some dried meat and vegetable scraps to serve as their breakfast, and then gave them some water.
I watched them as they started to eat, then reached into the Magic Bag and took out a 1m long, 3 cm diameter pole like branch that had fallen from a tree, using it to do some gentle training. Swinging it from above, thrusting with it as if it was a spear, doing low swiping motions, and then repeating these movements over and over again.

After around an hour of training like this, my stomach started to growl so I put the pole away and scooped up more water to wash the sweat away.
I returned to my temporary room and got changed, then headed to the dining area. Shiromaru and Slalin waited for me in the garden.
Seeing me arrive for my meal, a lady working for the inn brought out the food.
“Today’s breakfast is vegetable soup with bacon, cheese and a sunny side up egg on white bread. Make sure to eat every last bite!”
She said and laid it out in front of me. The lady was named Kanna, a slender yet powerful looking big-sister type.
“Itadakimasu”
I put the bread sideways in my hand and layered the bacon, cheese and egg on top, then sunk my teeth in.
“That’s a good way to eat it.”
There weren’t many people around that day, so the innkeep came over to chat.
“You got up early today too, did something happen?” He asked while pulling up a chair.
“Ah, since I can finally officially register with the guild today, I thought I would head there a little earlier than usual.” I replied.
In this world, you can officially register at most guilds starting from age 15; if you’re any younger than that, they won’t let you. However, even people below 15 are able to buy raw materials from them, if they have a temporary license.
Getting a temporary licence is simple, you just have to pay 500G, and most guilds don’t seem to mind your age. Even still, the guild assigns you the lowest rank, and any special services (accepting posted quests, borrowing money, being provided the latest info) aren’t included. Once you’re registered, anyone from the average guy down to a child can freely buy raw materials, so there were a lot of temporary licencees. That’s why I had registered temporarily in the first city I came to 3 years ago.
“Ah, so it feels like the time has finally come then.”
“Yeah, it’s a lot more convenient to be officially registered.”
With a temporary licence, you’re not able to hunt monsters. I had no choice, so had to accept just a temporary licence for a while. But now, if it seems like my money is running out, I can just hunt a lot of monsters and go and sell their drops, taking it easy. If I keep this style of living up, I could become reasonably famous.
But you could also get mixed up with trouble because of it.
“Thank you for the meal.”
I drank up the remaining soup and joined my hands together in thanks. As I was getting up to go, I said
“Will I be able to take an urgent request today?”
The innkeep heard the question and replied, ‘That’d be nice, wouldn’t it?’ as I headed toward the garden.
“Slalin, Shiromaru, thanks for waiting. Let’s head out!”
And with that, we walked off in the direction of the guild.
Even though there were a lot of people coming and going in the town, most of them weren’t startled by the sight of Shiromaru. Occasionally, maybe someone who’d just arrived in town would get startled, but upon seeing the red collar and tag around Shiromaru’s neck, they’d calm down.
The red collar around Shiromaru’s neck was the proof that he was 『Fully Tame』. It was my responsibility to ensure it was on him to show to the guards etc. If he wasn’t wearing it, I might be forced to pay a fine. In Slalin’s case, he had a special red cloth he wore, except he carried it around inside of his body, just under the surface.

After about 10 minutes of walking, we arrived at the Adventurer’s Guild. Since Shiromaru and Slalin couldn’t go inside, I left them to wait nearby outside. As I entered, several people turned to look at me.
” ” ” Tenma! ” ” ”
Three girls near the reception area called out.
“Good morning, Lilly, Nelly, Milly.”
I called the three girls’ names and their ears twitched, then they ran up to me, gently swishing their tails. They were catgirl triplets, three sisters who were also adventurers. The three of them had formed a C rank party together named the “Wildcat Princesses”, and they were all individually C rank as well.
Ranks ranged from F all the way up to SS. With only temporary licencees all the way down at F rank, it meant adventurers were divided into 7 ranks. Reaching C rank meant you were in an established position. The ranks of Parties were determined by the average rank of the top three members.

“Tenma, you’re going to officially register, aren’t you?”
“Let’s take on a quest together!”
“And then you’ll join our party, right?”
Their questions rained down on me in rapid succession. They went in order, Lilly, Nelly, Milly, and continued in that order, so they’d be able to breathe in turn.
“That’s right, Lilly.”
“That’s a good idea, Nelly.”
“As usual, I’m gonna have to say no, Milly.”
I answered them in order.
I had met these three around the time I first came to this city. When I was out gathering some raw materials a little ways outside the city, I stumbled upon them being attacked by two ogres and stepped in to saved them. Unfortunately, they became emotionally attached to me because of it. They should be 2 years older than me, but…
If someone casually mentioned that I, a lowly F rank had instantly killed the B rank ogres, it would probably be a big shock. Because of that, whenever they saw me they would call out and run up to me.
After I finished answering them, Lilly smiled, Nelly went to look for a quest, and Milly was grumbling. All three had a similar general disposition, but there were differences here and there, so talking to them was never a boring experience.
“First things first, I’m going to get officially registered.” I said and quickly left… the stares of the other male adventurers were becoming painful.
The catgirl trio had well put together faces, and although they were lacking in the chest department, they were still beautiful, lean girls that nobody would scoff at. On top of that, as there were three of them always together and doing the same things, they stood out. Naturally they were popular with the guys.
Whereas for me, I stood 5’4” tall (165cm) with a slenderly muscular frame. According to the catgirls, I had a bit of a baby face but otherwise promising looks. Here, my black hair and dark eyes combination was a rare sight and stood out, and they said my hair was soft and apparently smelled nice.
When the three of them got close to try and smell it, three of their fans had shot me deathglares.
Separating myself from those three, I went the reception counter and asked her about registration.
“Here are the official registration forms, please fill them out. After that’s done, the registration fee is 1,000G.”
They handed me three sheets of paper and asked if I needed someone to write for me. Because I could write it myself, I didn’t take the help.
It asked for my name and age, whether I could use magic or not, the number of familiars I had and their names, if I had a criminal record etc. I wrote all my answers on the first two sheets of paper. The last sheet was full of important information, and simplified, it read:
1. Generally, you can only accept quests up to your own rank, so only take on ones your own size.
2. Quests accepted from fellow adventurers or otherwise from outside of the guild are taken at your own risk.
3. Failing or cheating on a quest will result in penalties such as a fine, with certain exceptions.
4. Don’t bring trouble to the guild.
5. Obey the Guild Leader or any Guild Leader Representatives.
6. If there are any further questions, ask the guild staff.
and other types of things like that.
I gave the completed form back to the receptionist. After waiting for a while, a staff member brought out my guild card from the back. I handed over my registration fee and received my card.
“Please check the card for any errors now. Afterwards, even if you find an error it won’t be able to be replaced. Also, because it costs 3,000G to replace it, take care not to lose it.” they explained.
Looking the card over, there seemed to be one bit that was wrong.
“Excuse me, it says that my rank is D, but…”
I asked, while pointing out the section where I had expected to see an E printed.
“Ah, that’s not a problem. While Tenma was still F rank, he somehow managed to kill monsters of C rank. Because of this, it was determined that starting with the beginner rank wasn’t necessary in this case.” they explained.
What a lucky break! Normally to increase your rank, you must take on at least 10 quests and then go through a promotion exam. Since E ranks basically only get low paying jobs, it’s best if you can gain the guild’s favor.
―~――~―――~―――~――~― This chapter was translated by Refulgent for [ FourSlimes . com ―~――~―――~―――~――~―
“Thank you very much.”
I said and I bowed my head. They warned me that I would still have to follow the normal procedure when it came time for my next promotion exam.
Lilly and the others came over as I left the counter with my card.
” ” ” Are you finished, Tenma? ” ” “
They said in harmony. I told them it was done and showed them the guild card.
“Starting from D rank, huh? As expected of Tenma~”
“Hurry, lets go and take on a quest together!”
“Lets party already! Party~!”
They took me to the board where all the quests get posted, but three men were standing there directly in our way.
“Lilly-chan, instead of going with a newbie like that guy, you should come with us~”
“It would be better, and way safer than with that guy, Nelly-chan.”
“Yeah, it’s dangerous if you try to protect a newcomer and overdo it, Milly-chan.”
The three men spoke while smiling, their ulterior motives practically oozing out with every word. They themselves must have seen how rude they were being.
” ” ” We refuse! ” ” ”
The three girls, still in harmony, rejected them quite decisively, while pulling me back by the hand.
“Wait a minute, you really should think twice about it!”
“Joining up with the same rank is way safer!”
“Because we’re quite strong.”
Even though they had been rejected, they still stubbornly tried to persuade them, going as far as putting me down in front of the sisters.
I wanted to tell them off, that they were like little kids clinging to the girls, tugging on them saying ‘let’s go and play’, just the worst of the worst kind of guy. They failed to notice that the eyes of the girls were slowly clouding over with rage. If these guys don’t know me, it’s probably because they’ve come to this town somewhat recently. The nearby onlookers watched the men with pity in their eyes.
Even still, the men persisted. The girls’ patience broke and they finally opened their mouths.
“What a pain. We’ve rejected you so please, give it up already!”
“Even if there were 10 or 20 of you, Tenma is strong enough that we wouldn’t need you guys at all!”
“Tenma smells good, you guys stink. Please leave us, right now!”
Without missing a beat, they spoke their minds without worry. After hearing their words, the men’s faces turned red and they started to shake. Laughter sprung up all around them.
“Let’s go, Tenma.”
Lilly pulled me by the hand and started to walk away, when one of the men raised his voice after her.
“Stop messing around, you think you can mock us like that?!”
The man was about to grab Lilly, but just before he did, I brought out a secret technique.
“Secret Technique, Jewel Smash!”
I took the man by surprise and with one kick, he sank. The men who had been watching on the sidelines became slightly pale and closed their legs, becoming pigeon toed.
“A-Are you okay?!”
“That was dirty, you little…!”
The other two men crouched down to help him out, while glaring at me. Just then 10 other men broke in, putting themselves between the trio of men and myself, surrounding them. Taking a closer look, they were all guys from the three catgirls’ official fan club.

The men in the fan club spoke in hushed voices. Even though they had involved themselves, they were also slightly trembling.
I could hear them murmuring things like “They’ve got some nerve! Meddling with the girls plans like this.” and “The fan club regulations are…” and “That guy is a special case.” Their mutterings were sometimes directed toward me too, cursing me or wanting to spill my blood.
Lilly and the other girls thanked the men from the fan club, and their previously hard expressions melted and became affectionate. Honestly, it was sickening. The men saw us off, and we could finally use the quest board.
“Nelly, did you see any good ones?”
I asked Nelly, who had looked over the quests before.
“There’s a few. How about this one?”
Nelly held out a slip of paper from the quest board.
『C RANK Dash Boar Extermination』
…
At night, multiple Dash Boars appeared in the village fields and damaged their crops. This is an extermination quest.
Monetary Compensation … 5,000G + the drops of the exterminated Dash Boars.
―~――~―――~―――~――~― This chapter was translated by Refulgent for [ FourSlimes . com ―~――~―――~―――~――~―
That was all the text written. Dash Boars are wild boar type monsters that can reach up to 1.5 meters in total body length. Usually ranked D-. Their main way of attacking is dashing charges. Getting directly hit by a charge could kill you. However, their hide and tusks are used to make weapons and armour, and their meat is delicious with an intense meaty flavour, so few would pass it up.
“This seems good, doesn’t it? Since it’s Dash Boars, we can hunt as many as we want.”
“If Tenma thinks it’s good, then I think so too.”
“I think so tooo~”
Right after I agreed, Lilly and Melly gave their okay, and Nelly quickly brought the quest slip over to the reception area. After Nelly returned, she said,
“Tenma, you’ll act as the party leader, right? Please~” with a big smile.
Because the quest village was several hours of walking away from the city, I decided we should prepare ourselves for now and depart tomorrow, just before noon. With our plans decided, we went out into the city to buy supplies or things that we were short on.
“Hrrrrm~, potions and mana potions, antidotes, paralysis heals, and disinfectant. After that, our waterskins and portable food… I wonder if that’s enough?” Lilly asked while she checked over the supplies.
“Then, having rope and some towels is sure to be useful too.”
After some consideration, she said I’ve gotta buy those, and rushed over to the general store.
In my case, I had already amassed a bunch of stuff in my Magic Bag, so I thought there probably wasn’t anything I was lacking.
Speaking of the Magic Bag, recently I’ve been improving it and managed to successfully expand it quite a bit. Right now it can easily hold up to 10 tons of stuff. I also succeeded in expanding the Dimensional Bag but… because it acts as Shiromaru and Slalin’s home most of the time, they get grumpy when I just toss things in there haphazardly. After we were finished talking, Shiromaru and Slalin had gone back into the bag, where they’re now resting.
We gathered all our supplies, and then we decided to go have lunch. We bought and ate various foods from nearby food carts. There was stuff like pork (and other meats) skewers and steamed manjuu, with chilled fruits and baked sweets for dessert. The three sisters were totally stuffed, maybe even painfully so.
I saw them off to their own inn, and on the way back to the Full Belly Inn,
“Hey, c’mere for a minute, I have a bone to pick with you.”
The three insistent guys from before surrounded me. They seemed like a pain so ignoring them, I slipped between two of them and walked away.
“Wait a sec you damn brat!”
And they surrounded me once again. I let out a sigh.
“What’s up with you guys? Honestly, you’re really annoying, if you have something to say, do it quick.”
When they heard this, some of them started to yell back.
Things like “You think you’re so cool” and “Shut up and get over here” and “You damn brat you’re not strong at all”, they growled on and on but I hardly paid attention.
I guess I have no choice but to deal with them, and I followed them into a back alley. After a walking for a while they led me to a deserted place and stopped.
“You bastard, we should’ve done this to you earlier.”
“Stop screwing around and mocking us!”
“You know what’s gonna happen to you now, don’t you?”
I laughed and said with a condescending tone,
“I’m… not into doing things with other men like that so… later.”
I waved for a brief second, then turned around to go back the way I came. They cut me off.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop screwing around?!”
“Don’t get cocky.”
“If you try to run, we’ll beat the hell out of you.” they yelled.
The three of them didn’t want me on a bed, they growled and asked if I had maggots for brains. Naturally, I got angry.
“Hey, what did you just say, you scumbags?”
I said out loud. They stared blankly for a moment and then,
“Wha– the hell did you just call us?”
He asked, so once again I said,
“I asked what came out of your disgusting mouths just now, you scumbags.”
Whether they understood or not, they got pissed off and attacked.
“You’ll think twice about making us your enemy, you goddamn newbie!”
“Nobody’s gonna care if some new kid dies!”
“Shut up and die already!”
The three of them attacked together. I hit one of them and sent him flying back, then without stopping struck the ones trying to attack from the sides.
The first one passed out after one blow. Paying that no mind, I kicked him in the stomach, and after that I broke one of his knees. While he was screaming and rolling in pain, I kicked him in the face to make him quiet.

When I turned around, the other two were trying to escape, so I used magic to strengthen my body and then overtook them.
While I was passing, I kicked one of them in the knee, smashing the bone, and then swung a fist at his face. The man crumpled and fell, but I ignored it.
Before the other guy got away, I overtook him then stood in front and blocked his way.
“Where are you going, leaving your friends behind?” I asked him, with a smile.
The man fell down and started begging for his life. Liquid trickled down from his crotch.
I ignored his words and kicked him in the jaw, which extended it too far and it broke with a snapping noise. Dragging the now wailing man, I brought him back to the guy I first half finished off, not forgetting to collect the guy with the smashed knee on the way.
I laid them out on the ground, broken bones and all, and then use healing magic on them. When their bones were somewhat healed, I stopped. I then used water magic to splash them with and bring them back to attention. They were horribly scared but without caring in the slightest I said,
“Now, what was it that you said were gonna do to my friends? Tell me again.”
I asked them while smiling. All three of them were shaking, and more was leaking from between their legs.
The next day it seemed nobody in the city saw those 3 men again.
After I finished talking to those piles of human garbage, I returned safely to the Full Belly Inn.
I accidentally let slip what had happened to the innkeep. ‘You should do things more in moderation’ was all that he said about it.
While we were talking, I told him about the next day’s plans. Thankfully, he said that after tomorrow, for a few days if it wasn’t busy, he’d keep the room I’d been staying in as vacant.
It was still early when I returned to my room so I first worked up a sweat training in the garden, then went to a public bath to relax and soak.
By the time I returned to the inn, it was just about dinner time and the dining room was packed. I had no choice but to eat in my room, and then bring the tableware back down so the kitchen staff wouldn’t be troubled. Shiromaru and Slalin seemed happy to eat with me, though.
It was still a bit early after I finished eating, but I decided to sleep because of the quest tomorrow.
As I was drifting off, I started to think it would be good if I never saw that dream from this morning again. Then again, part of the dream was nice since I could see mother and father again.
[Author’s Note]
At long last, something close to a heroine has appeared. 3 people all at once, surely Tenma will amass a harem at this rate?
I’m still undecided on if there will be other heroine candidates in the near future.
[Translator’s Note]
Whew, this is the first chapter of this size I’ve translated (close to 9,000 characters) and it was pretty tiring. I’ll see if I can maintain this pace, if not I might break some longer chapters into parts.
Also please let me know if you see anything strange on the site, just leave a comment at fourslimes . com and I can try to fix it!
