《The times and struggle of a orc cook in the Demon Lord's army. (On Hiatus due to reasons seen in summary)》Chapter 4

Turns out I suck at hunting. Which dose not surprise me what so ever, I'm a true born city girl. What do I know about hunting? Especially in another world?
Though it dose not stop me from feeling disappointed for my lack of skill in it. Roro says even beginner hunters have problems when they start out, and that it dose not matter if they use a bow or a spear to do it. It ease some of the disappointment, but still.
Anyhow, it was not all a loss. I gained another level in both [Throw] and [Aim] despite my failures, finally gained the [Spear] skill which will make it easier for me to handle my weapon and I got two rabbits ready to be skinned and butchered. I only got those two thanks to a easy made trap that was what finally gave me the ability to both catch and kill the things.
The trap was a simple hole I had found that with a little extra digging, a few sharpen sticks and something to act as a cover that will collapse once some sudden little wight was on it. Like a rabbit landing hard after hopping away from me. All I needed from there was to herd a rabbit or two to it. It had none the less been hard to kill the rabbits, because I've never killed animals before. Well aside from fish. I did not get the [Trap Maker] skill as it will take me trapping at least another 8 rabbits or other living animal/person for me to gain it.
Or so Roro have been explaining to me these last few days on how to gain skills. We still haven't left these woods since I'm not in a hurry to get out and I'm still gathering what supplies I can in here so to lessen what I'll need to buy or find stuff to sell so I can buy stuff. So Roro has taken the opportunity to teach me things that they had to skip due having to prepare a lot of stuff thanks to that magical storm and then prepare to move as soon as it was over.
Which left little time for my guide to teach me anything other than what was needed at the time. But now they are teaching a lot of stuff.
Like how my stats works and as well as what classes needs what type of stat. Or stats for that matter.
Let me start with the three easy ones, Strength, Agility and Dexterity.
Strength is not only what makese me physcial stronger, which means I can hit harder and lift more, and shows my physical strength to those who sees it. But also adds extra damage to any weapon or unarmed martial arts I use. Take my simple spear as an example. It can only do 3-8 damage, which while not much is still a little better than my fist that would do at least 2-5 in damage without any skill being used. With my points in Strength though, an extra 7 to 12 damage is add to my weapon or hands making me quite deadly to most weak animals and even a Gob would be dead on a few hits.
If I manage to hit them. It's a good thing I already have [Aim] to help me.
Strength is also what will allow me to wear heavy armor like full plate armor made out of steel or some magical metal like Orichalcum. Though you'll also need to have good deal points in Wis to be able to fully wear magical armor like that. You also need a certain amount of Str to wear leather armor, though not as much as those made of metal. And is a stat many fighter or martial classes needs a good deal of. From your humble and simple Swordsman and Spearman to a Paladin or Dragon Knight, Strength is much needed in those classes.

That those not mean the other stats are neglected. A Swordman needs to have a good balance between all their stats, especially between Str, Agi and End as they are three main stats this type of class needs the most. But not rasing your Dex, Wism Cha or Luck will also limit you quite a bit. Or cause big problems later down the road.
So while a Swordsman focus is on those three stats, they need to add enough points in the other stats to avoid such things. Or find skills or a class that can help with this while also not hinder whatever your end goal of class is.
Now to Agility and Dexterity. These two stats share a lot of the same effects, the only differences is that one increase your physical speed, reflexes and makes you lighter on your feet and harder to hit. While the other gives you more control over your body, your amining, fine control and makes it easier to both craft and build stuff.
Agility is of the former, while Dexterity is of the latter. These two stats is also what many crafter, ranger and stealth classes needs the most. Though like the Swordsman, they also need to balance their other stats as well. Roro says that my stat build is well suited for all three class types, though I can also become a Spearman as they focus on more Str, Dex and Agi aspect than most other close combat classes if thats more my style.
Now over to the somewhat trickier stats. Endurance, Wisdom, Charm and Luck.
Endurance is in charge of how much HP and MP you have. Now, this stat is a little tricky as depending on your race one of the two will be more focus than the other. For Orcs, we gain 25 HP and 10 MP for evey 15 points added to End, while for the Fey Folk or those related to them gets more MP than HP. Somewhere around 30 to 75 MP per 15 ponits put in End, while gaining around 5 to 25 in HP.
So while I'm lacking 14 points to my MP thanks to a inactive Mana Core, I'm still greaful to know that what I can expect to gain as I put more points into it while still not have a class to add even more. It will also make things easier to know how many spells I can fling at someone before I need to run should I go for the mage classes.
Oh yeah, classes also affects this stat to some degree as well. It mainly depends though on what type of class you have. Magic related classes boost MP more than HP. While fighter and ranger classes is the opposite as they boost HP more than MP. But all three boost you HP and MP to some degree as the classes plays a huge part of your life and what job your going to work.
That being said theres some exceptions. Craft classes, a good deal of support based classes and certain special classes rarely seen don't boost one over the other, keeping a tie of sort between HP and MP. This means that only your race has the bigger influance as something like a cooking class, even the most basic one, gives an extra 10 to both HP and MP until you specialize.
It's also why people not only have a Main and Secondary class slots, but also two sub-class slots. It's to even things out as best as possible while also maximize your stats, skills, magic, talent and everything else. While also cover over weaknesses as best as possible. Because all classs, skills and races have them. The gods never made everyone equal after all.

This have lead to all kinds of combination that have lead to new types of classes and skills even the gods never thought of appear out of nowhere. So to say. Which have apperantly lead to a god of wisdom doing their damn best to record everything about these new classes and skills. As well as the ones that already exsist as sometimes even the well know ones can come up with a few surprises of their own.
I'm getting sidetracked agan, maybe I should add some more points to Wisdom to help curb that habit. Speaking of.
Wisdom, the stat that increase the rate of your mana revcovery, sharpen your mind so it's easier to control the spells your casting, improve your memory and helps your thinking ability. This is the stat that all magic related, and some faith based, classes needs the most. A proper mage, sage, shamen, witch doctor and priest can't use any sort of high tier magic or faith based spell without enough Wis to help them along. In other words, if you want magic invest in this as best as you can while not neglecting your other stats.
After all, I doubt you want to a glass canon sort of guy.
Quite a few artists and writers put a good few points into that Wis as it helps their creativity.
Now over to Charm, the one that helps you influence people perspective of you. Makes it easier for people to believe your lies or make them fear you beyond their death. In other words this is a stat that helps you in social situations. Roro say that while it's not the most importent out of all the stats, Charm none the less is a stat that having a good bit of can give surprisingly good advantage where you have to use your words and mind rather than brute force and death threats.
There are a few classes like an Enchantress who use this stat their main stat and draw powers from this. Brads also needs a good bit of too if they are going to be doing their jobs right. Though your own personality can influance this stat to either grow or go down to zero, so you have to be careful with what you do.
According to Roro however, that those not stop people from becoming big aholes and have such piss poor personality that not even the lowest of bugs would want to be near them.
And a weird but often appreciated effect with Charm is that it actually makes some small physical changes to your body everytime you add a certain amount of points to it. This means that the higher the stat is the better you look. Though terrible accident can cause damage and scras not even this stat can fix. Aside form making it less ugly.
And last but not least, Luck. The one stats everyone both loves and hates. This one works just like how luck stats works in games. Critical hits, loot, events and all that good stuff is decided by your Luck stat and theres few ways one can get more than what your given from birth.
Though the loot thing only works if your in a Dungeon, yes those exisit here. As in there the creatures and monsters are mostly made of mana and like a game your don't need to skin, butcher and dismanlte the thing as you just pick up the items that it leaves behind when the dungeon absorb the dead mana creature.
Still need to pick the plants up and mine the minerals and metals you find in there.
With the rabbits I've caught though, theres no such luck. I'm gonna have to skin and butcher them to get the pelt, meat and some of the bones as I'll need them for my training in Neutral Magic. I already have some fish bones to use but Roro says that we are going to need a little more for me to successfully get my first Sprit.
I don't really need to use the bones as Neutral Magic allows one to do the summoning without it. But Roro says that since I'm a beginner in magic I'll need a little help by using the bones as a sort of 'gift' and conduit to make it a little easier on me. As well as wanting to teach me how to bind the Sprit to an animal skull so it those not accidenlty wander too far and get killed by something.
It's a common practice to do when it comes to Neutral Mgaic, especially if your a beginner at it. It's quite common for a Sprit to be send back to the Spirit World because the one who summond them don't really have the needed control to make sure that the bugger understand they can't go over that fence without getting killed by something. So binding one or several Sprits to a simple object is one of the easiest ways to make sure you don't need to resummon them several times throughout the day.
And while it will make me feel a little bit like a witch doctor by using bones in the summoning and binding Sprits to a skull, I am not looking forward to dismanlte the rabbits. I know how to perpare fish and get the bones out. I've been out on fishing trips with friends and have help perpare them from scratch so I know what I'm doing. But I've never skinned nor butchered a rabbit or even a chicken. So this going to be interesting.
*I just hope I have the stomach to do the job. This is going to be messy.* I think as I come to a small half clearing with a small river that go's through a pond a little of the side, that I use as my fishing spot and water hole. A few feet from the water and under a large tree is my tent. It's roughly triangle shaped like most tents I've seen back on Earth and kinda looks like a normal tent from Earth thats gone the indian style, though made out of sticks, dried vines and weaved grass. Theres no flap to cover the enterance or to give me some privacy yet. But I'm getting closer to that.
Theres also a pile of sticks and branches on the right side of my tent. The side thats not near the water. Thats the fule supply for my firepit thats far away enough that neither the pile, my tent nor the tree will catch fire from stray flames or some of the glowing ashes that flys up in the air when I use it.
Speaking of which, it seems Roro has lit a new fire and was currently putting some Inkberries in one of the stone bowls sett aside this moring to dry after I washed them in the river. Theres a full grown bush them not far from here, with a lot more fully ripe ones than the one I found back two weeks ago when I first started my little adventure. That poor bush looked like it have been half torn and only a few of it's flowers had survived longed enough to become the berries.
Roro must have gotten board after they've finished repairing the broken clay jars form heh ruined houses with the clay we'd found yesterday from a little deposit down the river. And decided to get a ahead start on gathering some of the other stuff I need to use Natural Magic.
Roro's magic is nothing but amazing in my opinion. From repairing stuff as long as we have something that can act as raw materials to setting up special barriers using Illusion Magic and Defence Magic, my guide has quite the selection of things to do. Which is good, as physical speaking, Roro can't to a damn thing other than lifting a blade of grass or leaf. Or in this case a single berry at a time.
Though that seems to be part of the course of being a guide whos job is to help people like me to survive this world and teach us stuff. Roro has told me that all of their colleagues can also do magic, though they all then to speicalize a bit differently from each other. Knowing how to sett up a basic protection barrier to protect us and illusions to help teach any of the wards they get is only a few of the magic they all most learn for their job.
Roro though is a bit more speicalized in those two then most of their colleagues are. My guide has a knak for those two along with beign able to use basic healing spells, telekinesis spells and some craft spells like the repair one just to be a bit more of use. With having added all basic attack spells of the 6 main elements to even things out a bit in the last decade.
I also learned that Roro is among the youngest of the guides, belonging to the newest generation so they are a bit green in doing all this. And thuse haven't fully specialized their magic yet like the much older ones have.
I can't frankly tell. Roro knows so much I'm pretty sure my guide is at least a few centuries old despite being young. And no, their current body of a butterfly don't count. There are other reasons for that. And I'm very sure I'm part of those reasons.
I haven't asked just yet, mainly because I know even with a barrier protecting the camp here and thuse me, theres things out here that will kill me or at least hurt me bad if they can destroy the barrier. So thats been mine and Roro's main foucs, to not die. But ever since day one bits and pieces of conversations have made it clear to me that I play a part in it.
Especially so with one of the first comments Roro said to me was how they don't usually take the form butterfly, taking instead the form of a wolf or bird. Though I do find it a bit cool and reassuring that unless we meet a powerful shamen, priest, mage or someone called a spirit guide, only I am able to see my guide.
Which means I don't have to worry about people seeing a butterfly following me everywhere or trying to catch Roro for their own collection or the like. Or even use my guide as an ingredient for some enchantment, talisman, potion or something else. Which is apperantly a thing. Using live insects get a special enchantment or whatever.
"Roro! I'm back!"
(Oh! Hello little one. How did it go?)
"I manage to get two rabbits after building a trap and herding them to it so it became easier to kill them. Oh and I found this stone that has some raw copper in it while I was out, along with a few other things I'd like for you to see."
(Thats great! We'll take a look at those after we are done with the rabbits. How far along are you to level up?)
"I'm missing 31 exp. But with a few good catches of fish and another rabbit should get that done. I think."
(Sounds about right. Fish might not give much but at least they are a safe and easy way to gain the needed exp for your first few levels than say rats. Those things can be a lot more dangerous than most given them credit for. Shall we start on those rabbits now or is theres something else you have mind?)
"No, lets just get this done with. I'd rather do this while I still have the courage."
(Don't worry little one, from what I've seen with how you prepare the fish this should't be too much for you.)
"If you say so." I let out with a sigh as I stick my hand into storage to fish out the rabbits. While silently sending a small prayer in hopes that I won't see my breakfeast anytime soon.
