Hange:"Oh!! That one, that one, Din! Don't hurt it!"
Din:"Alright! Let it get closer!" He yelled down at his Scouts.
They readied a cannon on the ground for a 4 meter titan that caught Hange's attention since she wanted it for researching purposes. As soon as the titan got into range, the trap was sprung.
Din:"Now!"
*Bang!*
*Bang!*
The cannons fired their hooks into the titan, successfully hitting it's target. Din jetpacked into the air to grab onto it since it had been thrashing around.
Din:"I'll be back! Watch for anymore that may come!"
Scout:"Captain!"
Din:"Don't worry about me! Shoot the last cannon and disable the damn thing!" He ordered. The Scouts received his order and fired the last harpoon, hitting it in the leg. It not only failed to disable the titan but angered it.
It grabbed Din and threw him off causing him to hit the ground hard.
The 4-meter titan lunged down while bringing it's fists into the air and slamming then back down on the man. The capturing Scout party watched how the titan was slinging the man around like a ragdoll.
Hange:"Oh no...HELP HIM!"
A small blur zipped past her and sliced all body parts of the titan off within seconds. With the titan disabled, Levi propped himself on the titans head in victory. He looked down at the ground and saw Din's unconscious body.
Levi:"Oi, what are you doing down there?" He asked. Several Scouts rushed to Din's location and tried to wake him but found he was out cold. Hange even went over and discovered the same results.
Hange:"Ahh!! Levi!! He's not responding!!!"
Levi:"Goodness, get him back on the carriage. He took a hell of a beating just to get you another toy."
Hange:"Well how was I expecting to know this would happen! I didn't think Sawney had it in him!"
Levi:"Saw-ney? You already named the damn thing?"
Hange:"Of course I have, I can't go without naming my beautiful friends before I take them in, can I?" Levi gave her a deadpan stare and soon walked away reminding her to explain all of this to Erwin.
Levi:"Whatever, you're explaining your mess to Erwin. I helped you for the day already."

Hange:"Wha-?!"
_________
Erwin:"Really? Again?"
Hange:"Yes..."
Erwin:"When will you learn to not endanger our troops lives for one titan, Hange? We don't exactly have people coming to join us in large supply."
Hange:"But Din has been preventing that from happening! He actually goes out with a couple of Scouts and comes back with them all. I don't know what happened today but he usually does fine, I swear!"
Erwin:"Well, for now no more capturing titans. You nearly killed one of our best men with your antics."
Din:"It's fine." He butted in.
Nurse:"Sir, you should really be resting!"
Din:"I'm fine, I was just hurt in a few places but I'm fine. Continue treating your older patients." He reassured the Scout, they soon left him be.
Erwin:"So may I ask what happened out there?"
Din:"I wasn't focused on today's objective, that's all. Had my head elsewhere."
Hange:"On what?"
Din:"Erwin, I need your help regarding my friends I brought here. Can you help me find proper housing for them in Trost?"
Erwin:"I'm sorry but we're a military, not a house retailer. As much as I wish to help you, I can't think of how to if I'm being honest."
Hange:"Maybe Levi can help him?"
Din:"What?"
Hange:"He might have connections like he had in the Underworld. He might be able to help you find a house of sorts."
Din:"Well, I'll take your word on that then, thank you."
Hange:"Least I could do for you helping me get a friend for Bean." She stretched back in her chair gaining confused looks from her friends.
Hange:"What?"
Erwin/Din:"Nothing."
Erwin:"All I can say is be careful, Din. I'm telling you this as a friend and your commander. I can't have you dying before we launch our first expedition in a while."
Din:"Thanks, I'll be careful. I'll see you guys around later."
He left the room to find Levi and have a chat with him but before he could, Frieda grabbed him and pulled him aside. The Scouts that passed them through the hallway gave them both curious looks.
Frieda:"Din! I need to talk with you."

Din:"About what? If it's important then let's take this elsewhere." Before he could walk away, a surprising amount of strength from Frieda pulled him back.
Din:'Are all women this strong!?'
Frieda:"Wait! It's about Carla...was her husband Grisha?"
Din:"Yes..wait..I thought you knew?"
Frieda:"Well I'm sorry I didn't but I'm not exactly well-informed on the Jaeger lineage." She joked. She slumped down the wall on the ground, face palming at the new information.
Frieda:"Gosh, I feel terrible. My friends husband is my families killer and that same man had to fight my fathers personal bodyguards. I can't help but think he died during that desparate assault."
Din:"Why should you feel guilty? Sure he was Carla's husband but the man tried murdering you and killed your family. What sense does it make to feel guilt over his death? What's done is done, just get over it. I'll let Carla know he got caught up in the mess during the fall of the wall and I'll help console her." He got up and extended his hand out to her.
Din:"C'mon."
Frieda:"Eh?"
Din:"I'll take you back to your room. I'm sure you'll have plenty of things to be thinking about and doing that out here will only bring me trouble. I can't have you getting taken away by some random stranger." She looked at him for a bit in confusion but then giggled.
Din:"What?"
Frieda:"Ehe, does that mean you don't want me to get taken by another man?"
Din:"Fine, stay here." He retracted his hand and walked away.
Frieda:"Hah!?" She got up and went after him. He was happy he cheered her up and the helmet hid a small grin on his face.
Frieda:"Hey! Where do you think you're going!? Don't ignore me!"
________
Din:"How do you think it'll go?"
Erwin:"Well, I hope. Premier Zachary is expecting results this time around with the new unit. I'm more than confident that we'll be able to show him it was worth all the hassle." He replied while looking back at his Scouts, all lined up and ready to go for the expedition.
Din:"Let's hope so."
Erwin:"You know, after your meeting with him, he's very happy to know a man of your caliber will be fighting alongside us. Not many choose to join us or help us so it's refreshing to see that."
Din:"Yeah...let's get this done and over with then."
Several weeks had gone by since the talk with Carla and Frieda. During that time, Erwin was busy preparing all the necessary approval for the expedition. Din was also preparing in his own way by continuing to train and better himself every day. Soon, Levi rode up to the two in the front and started conversing with them.
Levi:"What's the holdup?"
Erwin:"No holdup, just sitting around."
Levi:"What?"
Din:"We're waiting for Hange, she's gone to get her traps in case she wants to get another titan."
Levi:"She couldn't have gone at a worse time."
Din:"Yeah...hey, thanks for helping me get them a house."
Levi:"Don't mention it, it was the best my contacts could find."
Din:"It's fine, with those three, I'm sure they can fix the place right back up."
Hange:"Heyyy!!! I'm back!"
Levi:"Took you long enough. Did you get what you wanted?"
Hange:"Of course! I brought several hooks and a ton of rope if we ever come across a friend!"
Erwin:"A friend? You better hope that 'friend' doesn't eat you before you tie them down."
Hange:"Oh Erwin, you doubt me too much. As long as Din is with me, I'll be fine."
Din:"Who said I'll be helping you?"
Hange:"Eh? You're joking right?"
Erwin:"Raise the gate!" He yelled out. All scouts jumped to their horse and readied their gear.
Hange:"Din you're joking right!?" She bawled her eyes out while questioning the man.
Din:"You hear that?"
Levi:"I don't know what you're talking about."
Erwin:"Advance!!"
The scouts all rushed through the gate and ventured out into titan territory to finally show what they've been working on. In the rear of the formation we're the dozens of new cannons from the Infantry unit. In the middle were carts full of infantrymen with their new rifles and odm gear. And up in the front with the leaders were regular scouts geared up with their standard odm gear. This expedition will finally test the scouts new fighting doctrine against the titan threat.

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Directorate: Nationbuilding in Apocalypse
A nation is just a means of survival. Metro Manila fell within 5 months of the first report of cannibalism. Once a hyperurbanized region of 15 million inhabitants, it's been reduced to a dead, greenless shell. Most of the infected had since left to ravage the countryside. The central government was nowhere to be found. Among the survivors who clung to the few gardens and humble plots of arable land left, one of them finds evidence that the slaughter wasn't going to just end with the first wave. Without a nation and a wall of guns, everyone will die. Directorate is an original nationbuilding webnovel that focuses on the gradual rise to power of a select few individuals, and the subsequent unification of the survivors of a devastated Metro Manila. Releases targeted at every 1 to 3 weeks. If there are no chapter updates after 3 weeks, there will be a progress update. Number of releases targeted at a maximum of 100 chapters.
