《One Night (Completed)》22. Aria

There was knocking on my door like the police were coming to do a raid at my house, the knocking came again as I heard "Aria open the fucking door!"
I rolled over checking the time on my phone, 1:32am. Who in the hell was knocking on my door like they were crazy at this time? I began to get up as the knocking continued, seeing I had several text messages and a couple of missed calls.
I usually don't sleep through my phone ringing, I must have been more tired than I thought. I got up, heading towards my door. "I'm coming!" I yelled with major attitude. I opened the door adjusting my eyes to the little bit of light that came from the lights outside of my apartment. Landon rushed in, with Jodie behind him quickly apologizing. I didn't know what was going on right now.
"Where that nigga at? You fucking another nigga?" Landon asked as he looked around my apartment before turning around to face me.
I had confusion written all over my face, "Landon what the fuck are you talking about?"
He came up to me, closing up all the space between us. "Don't fucking play me Aria, you know what the fuck I'm talking about."
"It's 1:30 in the fucking morning, I just told you I don't know what you're talking about but if you'd like to clarify we could get to why you're here raising hell." I wasn't even in the mood to do this with him. My phone started ringing just as he was about to open his mouth, he started laughing, heading to my room where my phone was. I looked at Jodie, "what the fuck is his deal?" I was worried about who he saw calling me because he wasn't my man.
Jodie shook his head with a sad look on his face, "I'm sorry Aria, he met Jason. I had no fucking idea."
It clicked, Jason and I had been talking regularly, going out and kicking it. But I still didn't understand why he was raising hell. From what I heard he'd been out fucking bitches and the whole nine. Landon walked backed out with my phone in his hand, "you don't know what I'm talking bout?" He asked holding up my phone. I rolled my eyes, seeing the most recent missed call from Jason.
"What are you getting at?"
"What am I getting at? You got a whole fucking nigga trying to play daddy to my child."
"No I don't Landon!" I threw my hands up, "like what the fuck are you talking about. Yeah, I'm dealing with him which really isn't any of your fucking business –"
"not my fucking business? The hell it's not! You pregnant with my fucking child!"
"Okay, and? Do I meet or know about every girl you fuck?"
"So you fucking this nigga?" he set my phone down, pulling up his pants as he got closer to me, Jodie stepped in, stopping him before he got too close "chill out Landon, you doing too much."

"No! I didn't say that!" I took two steps back.
"So what the fuck you saying Aria!?"
This shit was too much for me, he was spazzing the fuck out right now, I had never seen him this upset.
"I'm not fucking him Landon! But just like you deal with others, I have the right to deal with others too."
"Fuck that Aria," he started, he tried to get closer to me but Jodie stood between us, putting his hand on his chest, "nahh, man you good. You hot right now."
"Jodie, get the fuck out my face."
"Landon, you trippin' man."
"Nigga, move! You acting like I'm bout to hit her ass. I ain't no fucking woman beater. I'm trying to talk to the mother of my fucking child. This ain't got shit to do with you."
"Motherfucka, you ain't talking, you fucking spazzing the fuck out on her. You ain't even in your right mind right now. Anything you got to say, say it from where you standing. You over looking like you trying to run up on her. Chill the fuck out. She pregnant as fuck."
Landon starred Jodie down for a second before reconnecting his eyes with mine. A part of me was nervous as hell and I didn't even know why. I didn't do shit wrong.
"You get any of my messages?" he asked in a much calmer tone, realizing that Jodie was right in everything he said. Jodie took a seat in a chair nearby.
I shook my head no, "I was sleep."
He nodded his head, "when you get with this nigga?"
I licked my lips, looking down at the floor. "Landon, this shit isn't relevant."
He walked closer to me, causing Jodie to hop up out the seat, "nigga, I'm good." He said to Jodie as he walked closer to me, pulling a chair out, and sitting right in front of me as I stood with my back against the wall.
"I just had a nigga tell me he was ready to play daddy to my child and you think that shit's not relevant?"
I looked at him, not even knowing what to say. I understood where the anger was coming from now. I couldn't imagine Jason saying some shit like that though. "Nobody's replacing you." I let out. He was her father, and nobody could take that away from him.
"Damn sure what it sounded like to me."
"I'm sure that's not what he meant –"
"I don't give a fuck about what he meant—"
"Landon." I tried to reason, but he continued. "Here I was trying to build a fucking family with you meanwhile you was trying to build one with another nigga, that shit crazy."
"Stop! It wasn't even like that, don't do this shit."
"Nah, forreal," he started as he rubbed his hand across his face, "I been all in my fucking feelings and shit. Trying to figure out why we can't get it right. Fucking other bitches just to try and get you off my mind and you over here happy with the next. You know, that shit hurt a little bit."

This was manipulative as hell. "Landon, don't even twist it like that." Him fucking other girls had nothing to do with me. A knock came through on my door. I knew it was Jason, this was just the worst timing ever. Landon looked from me to the door, "you gon' answer that?"
I looked at him then moved to go open the door, tears at the rim of my eyes, baby girl kept me emotional. What the fuck was I about to cry for? "You okay?" Jason asked as soon as he looked in my face, "what's wrong?" He walked in before I could even warn him that Landon and Jodie were here. He looked at both of them, with his eyes landing and staying on Landon.
He looked back at me, then back at Landon again. "I know this nigga ain't the reason you crying." He directed it towards me but started talking to Landon, "you got her in here crying?" he asked as he walked towards him, I pulled his arm stopping him. "Stop Jason, stop." Landon stood up by this point, "nigga don't act like you bout to do shit."
Jodie got up, "Landon man let's go. You said what you had to say."
"And what the fuck did you have to say? You mad cause she over your deadbeat ass?" Jason screamed out.
Deatbeat? Now Jason was throwing words around. Landon looked at me, laughing. Crossing his arms, "that's what you told this clown ass nigga?"
I shook my head, I would never say no shit like that. I didn't fuck with Landon, but he was at every appointment and still tried to make sure I was good even though he was bothered by the fact I wouldn't give him another chance.
"Nigga, approach me. Stop trying to approach her, your bitch ass." Jason stood in front of me, trying to block Landon's view of me. I heard Landon laugh, and then Jodie told me to move. I moved seeing Landon walk closer to Jason, and Jodie trying to get in the middle of it. "Nigga, you got me all types of fucked up if you think you bout to talk to me stupid." Landon said.
"Y'all chill the fuck out! This is Aria's place, y'all not about to do this shit in here."
"We can go outside," Landon said never taking his eyes off of Jason. "You talking big boy shit. Let's go."
"Y'all stop, please," I cried. Tears falling a mile a minute, this was too much.
Jason turned around looking at me, as tears ran down my face and I held my belly. "Out of respect for my girl, I'mma let this shit slide. I ain't bout to have her go into labor early because she stressing over some bullshit."
Landon pushed Jason, "Motherfucka, stop approaching this shit like it's your child. That's the fucking problem now. That's my fucking child."
"Landon!" I cried out.
Jason looked at me, anger all in his eyes then looked back at Landon, he charged for him as I screamed his name asking him not to. Blows were being thrown as Jodie tried to stop them. They knocked over one of the lamps, moving furniture all out of place. I was screaming, crying, asking them to stop, but it fell on deaf ears.
I was crying so hard at this point it was hard to breathe, I backed up on the wall sliding to the floor, hyperventilating. Jodie noticed and ran over to me, leaning beside me. "Aria, breathe!" He coached, he said it loudly as if I was in another room, when I was right beside him. I tried to listen to him as I tried to keep the tears from continuing to fall as well. I guess it caught everyone's attention though because before I knew it, all three of them were surrounding me.
"Baby, you good?" Jason asked grabbing my hand. Landon looked at me with fear written all over his face, our eyes connected as I tried to tell them I was okay.
There was another knock on my door, causing me to roll my eyes. I was definitely over people knocking on the door. Jodie got up, looking through the peephole saying it was the police. He opened the door as we heard them say there was a noise complaint and asked if everything was alright.
"Do you need to go to the hospital?" Landon asked as Jodie handled the police. I shook my head no, finally catching my breath, and the tears finally stopping. I held my stomach as she started moving like crazy. "She's kicking," Landon looked at my stomach, placing his hands where mine were, she started to go even more crazy. He looked up at me with a smile on his face. He hadn't felt her move yet so I knew this was a moment for him. I closed my eyes, just taking in this peaceful moment in middle of so much chaos.
I heard the door close and felt Jason leave my side, I opened my eyes to see him going towards Jodie as they walked down the hallway opposite of what would lead to my room, leaving just Landon and I. Landon looked up at me, hands still on my belly, "I'm sorry," he spoke lowly, and I could feel that he meant it with all sincerity. I closed my eyes again, just placing my hands over his. This shit was too much, way too much.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
