《Doomsday》2. Troubling Day

There was a slight rumbling sound coming from my empty stomach. Oh! I didn't have breakfast and lunch today.

"Maybe yesterday's dinner as well!", my inner self reminded me. She reminds me this everytime, even more than Mrs. Karen, the orphanage head.

I went downstairs and sat down at the corner seat where less attention comes to me. After few minutes of me staring at my shoes which are torn from both the ends and thinking about my dream, other children entered and started sitting at the chairs. The chatter and screeching of chairs made me dizzy, that's why I avoid having any meal here.

I've been told many times that I look tiny and fragile for my age. I'll be turning 18 in few hours. I was never interested in celebrating this day and maybe that's why the people here don't wish me ever.

But today I have a feeling, somewhere deep in my heart that something special is going to happen with me today. I don't know the effect of it on other lives.

Maybe God has planned to make me meet with my parents or atleast my first friend.

Mrs. Karen had told me that they have died in an accident years ago during which I had lost my memory. I received a letter few day ago telling me how beautiful I am, how I've made them proud, how they love me and that very soon we'll be meeting.

It must be from my parents because they're the only ones who will find me beautiful. The children here always call me ugly and other bad names.

My attention was brought back to table when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see aunt Mary smiling at me and then she moved her eyes from me to the dinner on my plate. It was my favourite curry and rice with a plate of salad.

Aunt Mary is a nice old lady who seldom comes here to help the staff. She was the one who brought me here after the accident.

Mrs. Karen was now standing in front of us. As usual we prayed and thanked God for giving us food.

After eating my dinner, I was about to get up when the girl sitting next to me pushed me hard making me fall on my butt and landing my head on the corner of the table. Her name is Annabelle. She's always like this. I must have done something wrong to her and forgot about it.

My head was hurting, which means I would have to see the nurse again. I've become her daily patient now. I put my plate in kitchen and made my way to her.

After asking me questions about it, how I hurt myself and other things, which I didn't reply. She always does this, doesn't she know that I can't speak? She applied a medicine on my head which stinged very bad and gave me a signal to go.

I didn't want to bump into anyone so I quickly ran back to my room.

"You didn't want them to see the magic!", my inner self chirped.

"It's medicine, not magic.", I told her.

My wounds always heal within an hour and there are no marks left of it.

She always says its magic but she doesn't know that it's all due to the medicine that nurse applies.

"Silly!", I teased her.

"You'll know soon Heaven!", she told me in a serious voice.

Sometimes I think there's a peron living inside me because her voice always keeps filling my head.

After saying goodnight to her, I jumped on the bed and went to sleep.
