A.Entries must be written in English as we have no other language capabilities. However, should you wish to write in a language other than English and submit an English translation, you are free to do so.

A.This contest is open to everyone, everywhere in the world. Even Antarctica.

A.The other prompts will be posted in the contest chapters on participating profiles. You can find the list of profiles right at the beginning of this chapter/in the first chapter of this book.

A.The prompts are general guidelines and are designed to be as non-restrictive as possible. Providing it's clear to those judging that your story is inspired by one or other of the given prompts, you're free to write your story as you see fit.

A.No, but there are over 20 prompts across the various profiles taking part in The Open Novella Contest. We believe anyone who wishes to compete will find one of the given prompts to their liking.

A.The prompts are designed to be as open as possible and regardless of the prompt you choose, providing it's clear to those judging which prompt that was, you should feel free to tell the story you want to tell.

A.No. Novellas entered into this contest must be written for this contest alone.

A.As long as the word count is reached, feel free to use as many chapters/parts as you like.

A.No. The challenge is to write one single story. The totals mentioned mark milestones within the contest. The first such milestone is 2,000 words, the second 8,000 words and the final 20,000 words.

A.Because we don't know what's going to happen between now and then, the titles of those books will be released as we near the conclusion of this contest.

A.It's your novella and therefore you are free to make it as long or otherwise as you like. Take into consideration though, those running the Open Novella Contest are volunteers. Regardless of how long your story is, only the first 2,000 words will be read and judged at the first milestone, only the first 8,000 at the second and only the first 20,000 come the final round of judging.

Remember though, if your novella reaches a total of over 40,000 words it's no longer a novella. At that point, it becomes a novel.

A.A representative of the Open Novella Contest will contact the winner in early February to discuss their prize further. *At present we can confirm the winning story will be given feedback, a light edit, and proofread.

Other services (such as a cover and promotional material) as part of this prize will be discussed with the winner once the contest closes.
