《MY BABYSITTER'S A VAMPIRE. ❪ Malia Tate ❫ ✓》seven

Malia and Willow were making out on top of the large tables in the library after school hours. They originally broke in to study properly because Malia's father was being too loud while watching the big game with two other hunter friends.
They never asked each other out on a date or determined what they were. Willow just assumed Malia wanted to try something new. From what she learned, Malia recently turned back into a human after living most of her life in the woods.
The two would have ended up having sex if it weren't for an odd sound that snapped them out of their daze. It was an odd glitchy sound that made the library eerier than it already was.
"Should we leave or check the noise out?" Willow asked.
"I want to leave."
"Then, we'll check it out," Willow replied.
Malia stared at the back of Willow's head. She knew the right choice was to want to check the noise out, but she didn't want to. Malia sighed and followed after her.
The two walked toward the two computers in the back of the library. There were vines surrounding the computers, causing them to glitch out.
"Should we call Scott?" Willow asked.
"I think we can totally solve this on our own," Malia stated.
"Where would we even start?" she asked. "Is this even something - "
The computers let out a large wail. "GET OUT!"
"Did that thing just tell us to get out?" Malia asked. "I say we trash it."
A vine wrapped around Willow's ankle and pulled on it. Malia grabbed her before she could fall and she used her claws to cut the vines before the two ran away.
"Still want to solve this one on our own?" Willow asked.
"We should tell Scott."

The next day at school, people were groaning and walking slowly - like zombies. Beacon Hills's oldest tree had been cut down - not the Nemeton - and the tree took its revenge by growing weeds into the school's computer system. Anyone who used the school's WiFi or computers in the library would become infected. They would turn into groaning zombies that only wanted to eat vegetables.

Willow looked curiously at the other students as she walked up to Lydia. "Hey, Lyds, what's up?"
She didn't answer, her music blaring loudly into her air. Willow grabbed one of her earbuds and pulled it out, but a vine was attached to it and it pulled the earbud back into Lydia's ear.
Willow's eyes widened. "Um - I'm just gonna...go." She was walking to her first class, occasionally looking over her shoulder to stare Lydia. Then, she ran into Stiles. "Hey, Stiles, dude, there's something wrong with Lydia." She looked up at him and noticed the earbuds in his ears. "Please no..." She grabbed on earbuds and yanked it off, more vines pulling it back into his ear.
Willow looked around the hallway. She noticed most of the students all had earbuds in, listening to music that was blaring loudly. If she listened close enough she could hear the music that was playing. It was overwhelming for her. All of the different genres of music and beats were hurting her head, and her enhanced hearing made things worse.
From down the hallway, she saw Scott looking around with confusion laced on his face. He was one of the only students who didn't have your buds in. Willow and Scott both noticed each other from the other end of the hallway. They walked to each other feverishly with worry. Lydia and Stiles were being controlled by some sort of magic, and Willow had a guess as to what was causing it.
"Malia and I found something in the library last night. On the computers, there were vines covering all of them and the computers were all glitching. Then the computer yelled at us to get out. I think something weird is seriously happening here and I think it definitely has something to do with those vines. When I was a freshman, I was in a gardening club and whenever trees were getting too tall, we had to cut them down because they could fall on a house. We would always pull out weeds or roots in any flowers or plants that needed tending to, and those vines definitely came from a tree. Scott, I know this sounds weird and crazy - but try to remember that I'm a vampire and you're werewolf - Scott, I think a tree is causing all of this."

"A tree?"
"A tree, and Lydia and Stiles are being controlled by it. Have you seen Kira or Malia at all?" Willow asked.
The color drained from his face. "I haven't seen Kira at all."
"I haven't seen Malia either. Go find Kira, okay? I'll try to find Malia."
Scott nodded at her before bolting down the hallway. The two went opposite ways, scavenging the school.
•
"So, it's really me and you, huh?" Willow questioned.
"I guess so."
Both of them found Malia and Kira, but to their worst nightmares, the two were infected. Malia was passed out on top of someone's computer with vines in her ears. Kira was absentmindedly listening to music in her father's classroom. She was sitting on one of the desks, staring blankly at the board. Her father, who was not listening to music, was concerned for his daughter, so he went onto his computer on the school's Wi-Fi to research about what might have been happening to her, but the vines got to him too.
It was up to Willow and Scott to save the day.
"What do we do?" Willow asked.
"You told me that trees or plants or whatever needed tending to, right?" Scott asked.
"Are you suggesting we form our own little supernatural gardening club and go pull some roots?"
He nodded. "That is exactly what I'm suggesting. We should follow the vines and see where they lead us."
Willow nodded. "Okay, that could work."
The two walked into the library, noticing that there weren't any people in the room. The only sounds were the hums of the working computers and the glitches on the screen.
Willow stuck close to Scott's side, her hands wrapped around her biceps. "I forgot to tell you that the vines hurt."
"What do you mean?"
Willow's eyes widened as she pointed at a tall vine charging for them. "That!"
"Oh - shit!"
Scott yanked Willow to the side. They ran to the back exit of the library, following the trail of the vines. The large vine continued to come after them as they walked into the back parking lot of the school. The vines were connected to the power box. It was sucking the power from the energy source of the school.
"Please get the vines away from the box," Willow pleaded. "I'll take care of the vine for as long as I can."
"Are you sure?"
She held up her hand, her nails facing Scott. "I don't have claws like you, Scott. Just cut the vines and this will all be over with."
He nodded, not sure about the so-called plan Willow had. She was risking her life for him, even though it was just fighting a bunch of plants that were evil and could potentially kill her. He flicked his claws out and pulled at the vines. He was astonished at how strong they actually were.
It was like there were suction cups on the bottom of the vines, clinging tightly onto the power box. He continued to pull at them and slash them as Willow was being thrown around by the vine that was attached around her waist.
More vines erupted from the library, aiming for Willow and Scott. Willow trashed around the vines that were holding her down, pleading with Scott to hurry up and just cut the damn vines.
"It's not as easy as it looks!" he exclaimed frantically as a small vine wrapped around his ankle. He held onto the power with one hand as his other hand furiously slashed at the vines. The vines were beginning to loosen and fall apart. He sighed with a small smile as he kept going until all the vines were gone.
The vines immediately vanished into a green dust. The vines that were holding Willow up int air disappeared, letting Willow fall onto the ground with a loud smack.
"Ow, ow, my ass," she muttered.
"Did that work?" Scott asked.
Willow turned around to see if any students were going to walk out of the school, and they did. Slowly, students walked out with confusion laced on their faces.
"I think it did."

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
