《My Naughty Babysitter》My Naughty Babysitter (1)

"So where are your parents going these holidays?" My best friend asked as we smothered our chips in gravy.
It was the first day of Spring and I was looking forward to the mixed weather. Usually for some, Spring meant warm weather, swimming and flowers but for us it meant one day it was warm enough to go swimming then the next it was stay at home in a cocoon of blankets and drinking hot chocolate kind of day. I loved it.
I took a sip of my hot mocha, today was the latter of those two options. The thick clouds had darkened and hid the sun casting a dark shadow on our town.
"They're going to Paris" I replied before eating some more hot chips.
Avery cooed, "that sounds so romantic! I wish I could go, I'm so jealous, I don't understand why you don't want to go" I was about to respond when she continued talking, like she always does, "I mean I know why you don't want to go, too cliché and not actually romantic and all that but come on! It's a free trip! How could you not want to go?"
I raised an eyebrow and made sure she was done before I replied, "because I have zero interest in travelling. I would rather stay at home curled up in blankets, watching movies and taking naps"
"And getting dick" Avery added in and I laughed.
"And getting dick" I agreed. We both laughed before I watched Avery get into her serious mode.
"Okay, so you've got a free house for 2 weeks, are your parents giving you a babysitter this time even though you'll be 18 a few days after holidays finish?"
I sighed and nodded my head. I understood that the state didn't care if I was basically 18, they only cared if I legally was and unfortunately I was not, therefore I was legally not allowed to stay at home for longer then 24 hours without parental supervision. Avery knew all this but decided to continue ignoring the law every holidays for the past year.
She groaned and rolled her eyes but didn't argue with me. I did try convincing my parents last year that we wouldn't get caught but they wouldn't have any of it. I've never had the same babysitter twice as I don't like to get too familiar with them so I make sure my parents hire someone different every holidays. The babysitters are usually all the same though, elderly women who stay in the guest bedroom for 2 weeks, they clean my house, cook me meals and make sure that they see me at least once a day to make sure that I'm alive.

"Well then I guess we'll just do what we usually do. Binge watch shows, attend parties but never actually throw any" Avery sighed and slumped in her chair. She was a party enthusiast and has always wanted to throw a party herself but has never gotten the chance to do it properly.
I felt bad for her but mostly I just felt bummed out. I loved parties and would love to throw one where I could control who comes and who doesn't and what kind of food and alcohol will be there but unfortunately the older women who are sent to my house each holidays ruin the opportunities.
"At least we can still attend parties" I said trying to cheer her up.
She gave me a small smile and nodded. "Yeah, besides, we can't afford to throw a party these holidays anyway, we have no money. But next holidays..." she trailed off with a mischievous grin and I grinned as well, finishing her sentence.
"Next holidays we are definitely going to throw a party. We'll even save for it so that we can buy some good stuff"
She gasped and her eyes lit up, "like those huge speakers! And awesome disco lights that make the whole house flash!" Her face had gone red from excitement and I laughed.
"Dude yes! Next holidays we will throw the biggest party with the loudest music, flashiest lights and more alcohol and weed then you could ever imagine" I harshly whispered, not wanting to alert anyone to the word weed.
Avery nodded her head too fast I thought it was gonna shake right off her shoulders. We started talking about our future party, planning the food and alcohol even though it wasn't for another few months.
My phone ringing interrupted us and I saw that it was Mum. I looked at the time above her picture and saw that I was late to see them off. I answered quickly and gestured to Avery that I needed to leave. She waved me off and began eating the rest of the chips.
"Mum I'm so sorry! I'm on my way now! I'm so sorry I lost track of time" I cried out jumping into my car and starting it up.

"It's okay hun as long as you're on your way, I've made dinner for us before we head off, how far away are you?" She sounded disappointed and I felt guilty.
"I've just left the diner so about 5 minutes" I replied speeding through an orange light. I looked to make sure there were no cops and luckily I was safe.
"Okay we'll see you when you get home then", I said bye and then hung up, overtaking a car that wasn't going fast enough.
3 minutes later I pulled up in the driveway, grabbed my purse and rushed inside. The bags were set near the door and the smell of dinner hit me straight away. I wasn't hungry from the chips with Avery but I could tell it was lasagna so I would make room for it.
"Ah there you are, I was beginning to think that you weren't going to make it" dad said as he gestured for me to come sit at the table.
I gave him an apologetic smile. "I'm so sorry you guys" I told them as I sat at the table.
They waved me off with smiles on their faces before we dug into our dinner. We all talked about our day, Dad had spent the day making last minute arrangements and packing for himself and Mum had spent all day cooking and baking for me so that I wouldn't go hungry. She knew how lazy I could be and I would rather eat toast then cook myself a proper meal.
After dinner she showed me all the meals she had made in the freezer and I made sure I gave her a tight hug and thanked her.
When it was time for them to go my heart tightened a bit. I was going to miss them but 2 weeks always went by so fast so I didn't feel too sad.
"Now just a reminder, the babysitters name is Willow, she's an elderly lady just like the rest who understands that you are a teenager who spends her time eating and sleeping" she gave me a look and I chuckled. "She will be here at 9:00am, she already has a key to the house but I know that you'll be up and ready to welcome her and give her the tour of the house" she raised an eyebrow and I grinned.
"Of course mother, I am an excellent host as you know" I replied and she hummed under her breath.
We both laughed it off before hugging one more time. I hugged my dad and he ruffled up my hair. "Seeya soon kiddo, remember to stay out of trouble okay?"
"I'll try my best" I grinned making him laugh.
I watched them both get into the taxi, their bags already packed in the trunk before the taxi drove down the street and out of my sight.
I looked up at my 2 story house, it was made of stone and had a pebble walkway from my driveway to my front door. My garden was taken care of and always looked beautiful thanks to my green thumb of a dad. I walked back into my house and looked around. My house was definitely something to brag about, my mother was an interior designer and it was definitely obvious. Each room looked like something you would find in a magazine.
It was a little after 8:00pm so I wondered upstairs, plugged my music in and blasted my speakers. I opened my laptop and began to scope out some parties that Avery and I could hit up these holidays.

Cultivating Earth [Hiatus]
[This fiction is on indefinite hiatus. I'm currently acting as a 24-hour caregiver for my step-father who had a massive heart attack. I apologize for disappearing so quickly, but sometimes that's just life. I'll return as soon as possible. Sorry everyone!] Zhao Gang, after hundreds of thousands of years cultivating, has finally reached the penultimate threshold. He is ready to ascend to the level of True Immortal. Driven by the need for a place his enemies won't find him, Zhao Gang puts together an audacious plan. He has developed a revolutionary new formation which will allow him to ascend while on even the lowest planes. To avoid drawing attention, he has to choose a plane that is relatively desolate, however. He chooses Earth. Fast forward three thousand years. Zhao Gang discovers what his work has wrought - a cultivation-free culture that has delved the deep mysteries of creation - he can't help but think how this tiny little planet devoid of natural energy could affect the course of all creation. There's only one problem. For that to happen, he has to succeed in cultivating Earth. Notes: Chinese names should be ignored in the social context - they don't mean anything. Sorry for slaughtering such a beautiful tradition. This novel starts off slower than most. If the slow-roll isn't your thing, you might want to give this a pass. If it's not for you, I understand. Also, releases may be broken up into smaller chunks. The goal is 5k words, but definitely more than 4k. If you see a short release, be aware that more is probably coming. I'll be honest and say that I'm struggling with each new scene, if only because I want to balance the scope of vision with good pacing. I hope the work I put into it is worthwhile.
