《UNDER HIS PROTECTION》- Chapter 7 -

Dawn was present, and the sun was slowly beginning to rise over the horizon. Tahir couldn't sleep all night as he was filled with self-doubt and stood up to watch the crack of dawn.

By now, no one at the palace was awake. He even went out to greet the security guards who held patrol overnight and told them, "You guys may go in and rest. I've got it from here."

They all gave him a nod all at once as they replied, "Yes sir!"

Upon the highest level of the castle, Anisa stood, sitting by the window in her room, watching them walk away.

She too wasn't able to sleep. She was occupied with a long conference call with an agent she hired and whom Mr. Amin had introduced to her a while ago.

It was true, she was doing the investigation herself with the help of select people that Mr. Amin had entrusted with her. It was written in his will that if his death became a mystery, he'd want no autopsy and he'd like for Anisa to be in full control of his death process, including, finding his reason for death.

But, she wasn't the one behind it. There wasn't a slight possibility that she would be the suspect, let alone, the one who planted the bomb in the castle on that day.

Once she felt ready, she grabbed one of her cloaks and wore it before leaving her room and finding Tahir.

She silently made her way down the elevator and walked out of the backyard. After looking around there, left and right, she concluded that he wasn't here.

As she walked around towards the front gates, she felt someone grab her wrist, pulling her towards them while one hand made it around her waist.

She gasped from sudden shock and her eyes widened upon being greeted by his blue orbs. Tahir also came into realization and let her go as he looked away and said,

"I thought you were an intruder."

He quickly let go of her.

Anisa scoffed, "Would an intruder wear something like this during dawn?"

Tahir stayed silent and didn't respond. Normally, he would've, but he was being cautious of her. After realizing his mistake the entire night, he wasn't able to be the same around her.

"I wasn't able to sleep and I saw you through my window. If I had come out here without you, you would've nagged at me when you found out," Anisa explained.

"And why couldn't you sleep?" Tahir asked, trying to find out any information he could.

"I had some personal business to take care of," she simply replied.

She turned to see that he had furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and she went on and said, "Just because someone passed away, doesn't mean their business is done. Someone else has to carry on their favors."

Tahir had a feeling that she was speaking of Mr. Amin. Because she was being vague, he wasn't sure exactly what sort of favors but he would've known about a deed or at least the agency would've known if Mr. Amin had left one.

"How are you so sure that those favors were for you to grant?" He asked her as they walked around the backyard.

"Because it specifically states my name and I am the only one that was granted access to his deed," she replied.

For some reason, Tahir was bothered by this. He couldn't believe it. Why was the deed left for her out of all the people Mr. Amin could've possibly known? There were too many questions that were forming in his mind so he decided to leave them for later when he would visit the agency with Saif.

"Why do you think you were chosen? Mr. Amin was a mere bodyguard like I am. How is it that he gave it to you when he possibly had a family?"

This was the only question he would ask Anisa regarding the deed. If he asked everything at once, it'd be clear that he was here for answers and Anisa was already beginning to worry about his concern on this topic. But, after all, he was the new head of security, so, she decided to answer,

"Because Mr. Amin considered me family. He would speak of his blood-related family but he kept the details confidential and I respected that. He did mention that he didn't feel as close to them as he wished. Just like me."

Anisa realized that somehow she felt comfortable speaking about her feelings around Tahir and that made her feel discomfort. She turned to look at Tahir to see him deep in thought. Wondering what he was thinking about, she asked, "Is everything alright?"

Tahir snapped out of his thoughts and quickly turned to nod, "Yeah."

"I'm telling you, Mr. Latif, our assumptions about Anisa are wrong," Tahir said.

"Then how do you explain her threats towards the authorities about the case? Why does no one have access to his documents or the reports from the other guards that day?" Mr. Latif interrogated him, confused as to why Tahir was having a hard time believing him.

"I spoke with her this morning. She mentioned his deed and how her name was specified in it with certain favors Mr. Amin wanted her to carry out," Tahir explained, "We don't know what's inside that deed so we can't assume she's a suspect when the real culprit is out there, walking amongst us."

Mr. Latif was intrigued by his explanation. He was right. Assumptions rarely led them to be correct. Also, the information he just informed them about made sense as to why Anisa had placed certain threats and restricted every documentation.

"Sir, I think we need to go back and look at the information we already have about this case," Saif proposed, "Maybe we missed an important detail."

"I think he's right, you should. In the meantime, I've got to get ready for an event at the royal hotel."

Tahir stood up as soon as he finished his sentence and Mr. Latif nodded, granting permission. As soon as he left through the glass door, Mr. Latif turned towards Saif and asked, "Don't you have to go too?"

Saif rolled his eyes at the thought of Layla and replied, "Would you believe me if I said I'm a bodyguard for someone who doesn't do any outside work besides shopping and friends?"

Mr. Latif shook his head, disappointed by the fact that Saif's talent and work were getting wasted on someone with such a description.

In the meantime, Tahir made his way back to the castle and arrived just outside of the driveway. After scanning his badge through the back door, he got into the elevator to the third floor, where Anisa's room was located.

He knocked twice before going in and sat on the chair just beside the coffee table in the corner. There were maids in the room, as well as stylists who had needles on their wrist, pinned to a watch-like band.

Her room was the busiest during events and this one was for the shareholders of the royal hotel that happens to belong to Anisa.

"Is he here?"

Tahir heard Anisa ask someone and knew she was referring to him so he pulled out his phone and concentrated on the screen as if he was doing something important.

Anisa walked out of the closet and noticed him sitting on the chair.

"Tahir."

He looked up as soon as she finished his name. For some reason, it felt different when he was called by her. And, she normally wouldn't call his name and skip it during her sentences.

"Hm?"

"Get my car ready as well. We're going in separate cars," she said.

Tahir arched his eyebrow slightly in response and looked her straight in the eye asking, "Why?"

"Just do as I say!"

She hurried back into her closet and Tahir sighed in frustration as he stood up and walked out of her room. Once he was granted access to the underground garage through his pass, he went straight for the car covered in a metallic cloth.

It was his first time driving this car as it was a Fenyr Supersport. There were only 27 made in the world and it was no surprise that the royals had one.

Once he brought the car out of the garage and into the driveway, he got out of the car and leaned on it with his arms crossed over his chest. He waited for Anisa and kept track of the time on his watch.

Then, right before another minute passed, the door opened revealing Anisa in a beautiful, formal dress in which she held up with her hands by carrying both sides from the top.

Tahir rushed over to the driver's side of the car and held the door open for her. He watched her slowly get in and adjust her dress as she did. Then, he closed the door after she was situated and said,

"I'm right behind you."

With that, he rushed over to the Aston Martin just behind her and started the engine, following Anisa.

The reason as to why Anisa chose to take separate cars was because her car would be up for auction during the dinner party. This necessarily wasn't charity work. But, it was one move that would get her closer to Mr. Amin's killer.

She knew for a fact that the real culprit wouldn't attend. Rather, there would be someone else in their place to buy this car. It was all for a particular reason: the dashcam held evidence of part of the incident that day.

Of course, she already looked through it and replaced it with another USB. But, the culprit wouldn't have predicted she would think to look in her car.

As Tahir followed her, his curiosity only grew even more. They finally came to a stop and instead of pulling up to the front entrance, Anisa drove towards the back and parked just in front of a few doors and got out.

Tahir did the same and didn't hesitate to ask, "Why are we going in from here?"

Anisa handed the keys to the woman that stood in front of the doors and Tahir watched her bow to Anisa before she turned and responded to his question.

"This car will be auctioned off tonight. That's why I told you to bring it."

Tahir was in disbelief. How was she able to sell off such a pricey car? The worth would double knowing she is the owner.

"Why is it off for auction?"

"That's something I'll tell you when I feel you trust me."

She walked through the doors leaving Tahir to question more thoughts in his mind. Eventually, he snapped out of it and followed her, opening the rest of the doors as she entered.

"I just want you to know one thing for now and that is, never trust anyone besides me during these events. They will all tell you one thing and lead you to a trap just to get me alone," she said once they entered the elevator.

Tahir simply nodded and pressed the button to the top floor of the building. Her previous response was what had him thinking again. How did she know that he didn't trust her?

The elevator doors slid open and there was a whole grand ballroom filled with people who wore fancy clothes and jewelry, talking amongst each other.

Once Anisa stepped out of the elevator, everyone turned and bowed as she walked past them. This made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't even like being called, "your highness" or "your majesty" or any other word that made her feel as if she was superior to the rest.

But, she felt as though an event like this was hard to bear overall. Especially after what happened back at the other castle. It felt traumatizing to bear another event in which she knew that people related to Mr. Amin's death were among her.
