Being married to a King had more negative consequences than you had originally thought.
You had known that he was busy, you had expected that, but since your marriage Alfred seemed to only have gained more responsibility and work.
It was sad for you, falling asleep alone in the giant bed you had in your room, not able to talk to your husband because he wasn't there.
Seeing him became more and more rare by the day, so you decided to tell him how much you missed him.
One night you were waiting for him before deciding to go to bed because he took too long.
You were barely asleep when you heard the door close and felt an arm sneak around your waist as the bed dipped under his weight.
When you turned around to face him he pressed a kiss to your temple.
"Go back to sleep, it's late, my love", he told you after shushing softly.
You shook your head as you set a hand on the side of his face, studying his barely-there features in the dark.
"I miss you, Alfie", you told in a whisper and you were sure he was smiling with a hint of sadness settled on his face.
"You're so busy I barely get to see you anymore", you added, and you could feel him nod and sigh softly.
"I am sorry, my love", he answered, mirroring your actions in putting his hand to the side of your face and caressing it.

"I don't want you to neglect your duties towards your kingdom, and I know how important they are to you, but you have duties towards me as well, love", you whispered, and you felt Alfred smile at what you said.
"I'll find time for you, for us", he answered as he pulled you closer to kiss the tip of your nose before pulling you flushed against him, turning you around so you were in a comfortable position.
"Now, let's sleep", he told you, and you did.
The next day wasn't much different than before, he was gone when you woke up and stayed away until late in the night, but the day after you started to notice him taking more time for you.
He took more time to sit with you during meals, engaging in conversations that stretched longer than the time in which you were eating, and over the following days he started to arrange time in between meetings to see you.
One time you were having a particularly bad day, with Judith scolding you for nothing in particular, it seemed.
Alfred was so engrossed in trying to tell you something that was supposed to cheer you up that he didn't notice that you didn't listen to a word he was saying, but rather stared at him.
It had been several moons that he had last performed his husbandly duties, and you were yearning for it.
When Alfred was close enough to reach you stood up, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into a kiss he certainly wasn't expecting.
You could see a blush creep up his cheeks as you pulled away to look for approval before moving back in to kiss him longingly.
You had been living on his gentle hugs and kisses, but you knew both of you needed more.

When the kisses grew deeper and heavier Alfred pulled away to look into your eyes.
The two of you knew where this was leading, but Alfred still had to make sure.
"Do you want to do this?", he asked you breathlessly, earning an even deeper kiss from you.
Even though he by now seemed as eager as you were he broke away from the kiss and waited for you to say yes before he dove back in to kiss you, moving you backwards to where you knew the bed was sitting.
The days went by, and Alfred and you grew more determined in hugs or kisses.
You were happy with the relationship and the love you were sharing when you started to feel sick.
Though you knew that Alfred's condition wasn't contagious you feared that you were ill with a sickness of your own when you decided to talk to Judith about it.
She was always interested in putting her nose in your business so you felt like she could handle a matter of your physical health well.
When you told her about your symptoms a smile spread across her face, ensuring you that you didn't have to worry.
You were ecstatic with the news, and once a healer agreed to your mother in law's deduction you were excited to tell your husband.
It was in between meetings when you saw Alfred again entering your room, bringing a wholehearted smile to your face.
His questioning glance at you made you laugh a little as he moved towards you to hug you and press a kiss to your forehead.
Pulling away he rested a hand on your cheek to caress it as he looked down at you.
"What's got you in such good spirits?", he asked you softly, and he couldn't help but smile as well.
You put your hand on his that lay on your cheek as you turned your head to kiss it before looking back up at him.
"We're having a child", you answered as you searched his face for a reaction, the smile on both of your faces fading.
Alfred looked at you, confused from your confession before he blinked several times.
"Are you sure? Who did you see to confirm it?", he asked, and his tone sounded happy more than anything.
"I asked your mother and we heard a healer's opinion as well", you answered and a cheeky grin formed on his face as he heard that you had gone to his mother, the woman you disliked most in the castle, but who you could obviously trust in matters like these.
When realization hit he grew serious again, before the broad grin resurfaced.
"You're pregnant. We're going to have a child... an heir", he whispered as he moved his face to lay his forehead against yours.
You nodded quickly, breathlessly, before diving in to kiss him.
The kiss you were sharing grew deeper by the second, the two of you wrapping your arms around each other, pulling the other closer, and pulling at the other's hair in hopes to become as close as possible.
It wasn't a desperate kiss, it was full of love, happiness and celebration of what you had accomplished, and it led to recreating the way you had managed to make each other this happy in the most loving way possible.
