《Whodunnit》Chapter 14

We sat in our English class we were going to be having together. Cass was still not in school. I reached for my phone in my backpack so I could call or something. I sent a text message instead
"Cass where are you? We have English already"
She replied almost immediately and the reply notification was very loud that Mrs Freeman looked at me through her rounded frames whose lenses were as thick as glass bottles. I dropped my phone on my desk as I tried to duck her fiery stare. I wasn't ready to put a staring showdown with that lady.
As usual, the English class was the boring start of the day that got a lot of people yawning, too bad gum wasn't allowed, it could have helped.
I walked through the halls leading to the cafeteria holding my phone with my head down but I could still see if someone was approaching. At that time Cass texted me back that she had a driver's test and she wouldn't be coming to school. Great, just great
"Heading to the caf?" A voice from behind me chirped
"Yes Kyle, are you?" I was hoping he'd say no
"Let's go then"
We walked into the cafeteria laughing our butts out as he made an imitation of Mr Ramsbuttom. He was a vibe
"Hey what's up guys" a high pitched voice chirped from the entrance. I was already sitting in the middle of my meal when she walked in. Kyle had left since he had football practice and I wasn't particularly fast at eating.
"Cassandra Ann McClain woods" I said after properly swallowing the food in my mouth
She propped a chair beside me to sit
"Make that driver Cassandra" she replied as she waved a bunch of car keys to me

"Oh my God"
"I know right"
"This is soooo cool, Cassey. So worth missing maths class for" I rolled my eyes wishing I had gone for the test instead of her
"I could you drive you home today" she said as jabbed me amidst her contagious smile.
I sighed as I considered her enticing offer. I really would have wanted to ride with her and probably stop over somewhere before going home but that was in no way happening. I was even sure that if I wasn't careful I'd have gotten a motion detector for my 16th birthday present
"I don't think so" I mumbled after weighing the odds
"Why not?" She said, fury glaring in her eyes in an attempt to scare me
"Nick died last week" I said with a sniffle, it was so easy to cry nowadays
"Oh My God" she held her hands to her mouth

She is beholden to no one so when Del comes knocking on her door, she sends him on his way with a wink and a sarcastic “yeah, right.” When that doesn’t work, she bolts. She just wants to live her normal life; gambling with fairies (the not-so-nice kind), befriending ghouls and painting the future all over the whitewash. No boy is going to get in the way of that. Excerpt: He snagged her wrist gently before she could flounce away, his fingers warm and firm. “You need to come with me, girl,” he said earnestly. “I don't need to do anything.” She was indignant. She knew that sometimes her kind of abilities could be unruly but Nyssa was quite capable of taking care of herself. She’d lived with her abilities since she was thirteen. She’d learned to handle them herself. “It’s dangerous for you to be on your own,” Del said, tightening his grip on her wrist. She pulled her arm from his grip and he let her go. He could force her to go with him, she knew, but he wouldn’t. “I don’t need your help, Superman.” She didn’t look at him. “I’ll be back in a week,” he said, ignoring her protests. “Be ready to leave with me.” He breezed past her, discarding the necklaces he still held on the desk and leaving. Nyssa sighed, watching his back as he disappeared down the street. “Fat chance, Superman.”
