CHAPTER SIX
That day, I walked with Cass back to her house and we talked all the way. The impression I had of her initially had already faded away. I saw her as nosy and pushy but here we were sharing our hearts to each other. So cool! She kept reminding me of Ashley the way we flowed together so well.
I walked to my house in a rather slow manner. Kicking stones, staring at birds and barking at dogs. Funny right? I kept trying to wrap my head around all we had just found out about the possibility of a nut cracker case. But I felt satisfied anytime I thought of cracking the case with Cass, she seemed really experienced.
I got to the house at about 7:00pm which was thirty minutes after I had left the park. The whole area was fully lit you’d hardly believe it was evening. I went to my room to take a shower but something kept telling me to go to my father’s room. As a regular teenager, I followed my instincts and walked into my dad’s room to search for anything at all.
I walked over to his drawer after studying his desk arrangement for a while. How was he so organized and I just couldn’t take that attribute from him. I opened a book which I saw was his diary. I flipped the lock opening the book as quiet as possible
“honey I’m home” a voice sounded from downstairs
Oh God I forgot he was coming home soon. I placed the book exactly as I had met it in the drawer then ran downstairs with the speed of light. I don’t think I’m cut out for this spy job at all. I bent my big toe as I tried to skip for steps coming down but pretended it was nothing. I was so terrible at not looking suspicious.

“welcome dad, I missed you so much” I hugged him nervously with all the strength I had
“hi sweetie I’m pretty sure you hugged me that hard because you already saw my hand” he chuckled like an evil genius
I had not even seen his hand yet but I just had to play along. I peered and saw he had a present wrapped in a red ribbon
“you know me too well dad, that’s what I do” I said with gritted teeth.
I was shuffling my feet and laughing over nothing which was kind of what happened anytime I was being deceptive
“tada! It’s a necklace”
He placed it on my neck gently as I checked it out. It felt so cool and cold on the surface of my skin. It had a pendant that glowed each time I twisted. If it was in stories it’d probably be an amulet.
“gosh its so nice, why did you get me it?” my eyes kept glowing brighter as I studied the pendant
“I just thought I should, and besides I bought one like this for your mum on our first anniversary and she looked as happy as you look” he said looking down at me
That’s right, Mom. When will be the right time to bring the whole suspected murder thing up. Right, when I had evidence. For now, don’t talk about anything related to that just be normal
“how did your day with Cassandra go?” he said bringing me out of my world of thoughts
“uhm yeah it was very fun filled”
Wrong choice of words, why am I nervous?
“is something bothering you?”
“uhm no not at all I’m totally fine” I said trying my best not to meet his fiery gaze
A loud noise disrupted the moment and it came for the kitchen. Happy about it I felt relieved as dad left studying my expressions and went to check what was off in the kitchen.

A while later we both sat at the table to say our prayers and start eating. We talked a lot more than we had talked in weeks. He shared his working experience and I shared my school experience. He said he had this woman who he thought was stalking him at first but then to be told she was the new company intern so she was there to serve. I told him about Ramsbuttom and some show offs in my class always answering questions
“come on you used to be like that, in your former school your teacher said you were always raising your hand first. Maybe its because you just got here”
I shrugged then was about to continue talking when a knock came through the door. My dad went to open the door and it seemed it was an emergency because he said “oh my God” before closing the door behind him in a hurry
I looked over where he was sitting and saw his phone. I felt that urge again to go through it before in came back. This was hardly incriminating since it was normal for a girl to pick up her father’s phone to play games.
I picked up the phone and opened it. Funny enough, no security whatsoever. I didn’t think I’d find more information in any place than messages so I clicked on them.
Wow fifteen blocked contacts, now that was unusual. I checked and twelve of them were my former friends. My dad had intentionally been blocking all connections, even Ashley was blocked. And he also tore my letters now that was despicable.
My dad walked in breathing heavily. I was holding his phone with tears blurring my vision, fully aware he was in front of me
“what’s wrong Amy why are you crying” he asked as he walked closer
“why did you block all my friends and say they never sent messages?” I looked him straight in the eye with that ‘stink eye’
“you checked my phone” he put his hand on his forehead
“why did you shred my letters?”
“it was for your own good”
“no it wasn’t, if you had a problem with my kind of friends you could have told me” I snapped louder than I expected
“give me my phone”
I gave him the phone almost immediately out of disgust. He kept clicking the phone and typing stuff so fast it looked like he was decrypting or something like that. He paused at a picture, closed his eyes then gave it to me with a sigh. I took it, curious to know what was there. My eyes opened in shock when I saw it.
“Ashley sent this?” I muttered
He nodded without looking up
Now that’s the end of this chapter
I made it long because I might not be posting in a while
What do you think is on the phone?🙊
