《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 10 - Burnin' Boy

Giles soon returned to the group of ten and started the usual routine of the game.
"Who would like to investigate the crime scene, the parlor?" The butler asked.
Brett, Grace & Jeremy raised their hands simultaneously. They were told to wait with Sophie the maid in the great room until everyone had been sent off to their area.
As the group of three guests sat on one of the many couches in great room, Giles asked who wanted to investigate Colton's last known whereabouts, which turned out to be his room.
Mike, Chantal, Troy & Mary raised their hands and followed May the maid up the marble staircase towards the once alive, Colton's room.
"That leaves Kendra, Cecilia & Kristina. Ladies, please follow me to the morgue." Giles then led the three female guess outside and to the small utility looking shed which stood alone as a single building.
-
Once all the guests had left the great room to go to their chosen areas, Brett, Grace & Jeremy were finally allowed to head into the parlor with Sophie the maid by their side.
As Sophie leaned in the hallway, the three guests got into their discovery.
"Guess we should start at the fireplace?" Brett suggested the idea of investing the place where Colton's body was found, the fireplace.
Jeremy cut off the gas (and therefore the flame of the fireplace) by the lever on the side before leaning into it with Grace & Brett by his side.
Grace immediately noticed that there were a few hair fibers on the logs of the fireplace. Along with a few blood drops. The red-head believed that this would have most likely come from the fall that Colton had. However, she knew that she would need confirmation from Kendra & Cecilia at the morgue to be completely sure. She also knew that she could trust Mary & Mike (who had both chosen the last known whereabouts), she knew that maybe they could explain how he fell.
The author wanted to stay quiet about what she found, but unfortunately for her, Jeremy pointed it out to herself and Brett.
"So I'm thinking that Colton got pushed or fell from the roof?" Jeremy theorised his first explanation in how he felt Colton ended up in the fireplace.
Brett rubbed his chin "Yeah I thought that as well, but if he did, then why haven't the logs broke? I mean Colton was a pretty heavy guy, and from the height of the roof, these logs should be obliterated. But they're practically untouched!" The musician cleverly put together the fact that the logs weren't broken at all.
Jeremy & Grace looked at the youngest male guest in a haze of shock. They didn't really think the adult was that smart, but the fact that he was able to piece together the information that quickly, caught them off guard.
"So that suggests what?" Grace asked out loud.
"It suggests that he fell from a height which was low enough for him not to break the logs," Brett replied in a confident voice.
The A-List Director, Jeremy peered around the parlor as Grace & Brett spoke. He was trying to find some sort of clue which could give him a better idea of how Colton was killed. It wasn't long until Grace & Brett distracted him.

"Jeremy! Can you help me please?" Grace called for the eldest male to help her examine the fireplace closer.
Upon initial hesitation, Jeremy walked over to the group to help them out. After testing the heat of the logs with his hands and finding out they were cold enough for him to walk on, Jeremy climbed into the fireplace.
"Be careful, dude." Brett cautiously reminded the director while he was in the fireplace.
Using a flashlight Jeremy found while he was peering around the parlor, Jeremy guided his way around the inside of the fireplace. It shocked Jeremy how big the actual infrastructure was, it was like a mini shed on the inside.
However, it didn't take long before Jeremy found what he thought was a clue.
"Guys! You better get in here, there's a ladder." Jeremy called for the guests to join him.
After a couple minutes of struggling to get inside the fireplace, Grace & Brett joined Jeremy inside the fireplace. The group of three climbed the ladder. They were only climbing for about ten meters before they got to the top. At the top, there was a small wooden rectangle platform, almost like the bottom of a coffin, which was attached to the side of the fireplace. Aside from that, there was also a small, body-sized rectangle hole which was locked by a padlock in front of the rectangle wooden plank.
Grace (being at the top of the ladder) explained what was where to the two guys before trying to open the padlock. After several tries of a combination like the classic 0000, 1234, 9999, etc. There was no luck. She also noticed a dried blood spot on the wooden plank but decided to keep it a secret. She knew at this point of the game it was crucial to try and keep all the information for herself.
Hopefully, it would work for her.
At first glance, Colton's room was spotless. The business student obviously enjoyed his neat spaces, even his bed covers were completely pristine. They looked untouched.
However, the four guests who were investigating Colton's last known whereabouts knew that that couldn't be the case. The killer always left clues behind. Mary, Mike, Troy & Chantal started by examining Colton's bed and the bedside table, which had an array of business textbooks stacked on top of one another.
"Knowing the killer, I'd say there's some sort of clue inside these books," Troy said.
The group reluctantly agreed with the athletes guess and started to examine the endless sea of books.
"I never knew Business could be so boring." Chantal sounded completely lifeless as she scrolled through one of the thickest textbooks.
"I don't even understand what half of these words mean." Troy's excellence definitely didn't come from the academic field, that was proven as the many words of the textbook genuinely confused him.
Mary & Mike looked at the books with a half-assed attitude. They didn't believe that the killer would leave a clue in the books, it just didn't seem right.
"Hey guys, me and Mary are gonna look elsewhere." Mike left it brief with the two guests from the other two alliances in the game and went to the bed with one of his allies, Mary.

As the group of four looked in silence, they secretly were all worrying since there were no clues that were emerging from Colton's last known whereabouts.
It didn't take long for someone to make a stand, however.
Troy headed off to the bathroom, the others followed him.
Once they were there, the group knew they had found the correct spot. On the long windowsill of the bathroom, there was a dried blood spot, it was a peculiar one for sure as the blood seemed to be splattered everywhere. It was almost like the blood had been thrown on like how many paint artists of today, do.
Mary took the charge and picked up the toothbrush which was also on the windowsill.
"This toothbrush is covered in blood." The eldest guest had to pinch her fingers to try and not touch any of blood which had got attached to the small, slightly worn out, toothbrush.
Chantal was next to find out a clue, she pointed out how there seemed to be some burns in the windowsill. Not fire burns, but what seemed to be acid burns. Some of the toothbrush also wasn't there because it had supposedly burnt off.
"Did the killer start a fire in his room? Is that why the fire alarm went off?" The singer/songwriter asked.
"It's possible. But why wouldn't he have joined us outside if the alarm went off?" Troy queried.
The four were in a tough situation. They didn't really know what this information meant at all. They knew that they needed information from
each of their teams so that they could rely on how there seemed to be blood smothered in Colton's bathroom. Each team betted that the morgue would hopefully give them that answer.
-
The three women who chose the morgue felt a little uneasy about going in to see the body.
None of them had seen Aubrey's body up close since none of them had chosen the morgue the first day, Cecilia saw Paul's body in the second investigation. But this body was different.
Kendra, Kristina & Cecilia were expecting to find a charred body beyond recognition. They thought that Colton's body was going to be a shriveled, crispy corpse. But, when they walked into the morgue, they got quite an opposite body.
Face up, Colton seemed absolutely fine. No signs of any external burns around the body. Kendra even let out a quick sigh of relief once she entered the morgue, knowing that she didn't have to deal with a pre-conceived notion of a body beyond recognition.
Kristina took the white sheet off the body, exposing the dead Colton completely.
"This isn't right." Kendra shuddered.
"It never is," Cecilia said in a defeated voice.
"We need to get searching girls. We don't have much time." The youngest guest, Kristina was quick to snap them out of the attitude of feeling sorry for the guests. Of course, she felt inhuman about trying to convey as less emotion as possible when seeing the bodies, but she knew that she couldn't let it phase her. If it did, Kristina knew she would have most likely have been killed off by now.
The group of three started by flipping the body over. There were the obvious burnt clothes and burnt skin from when Colton's body was in the fire. However, there was charring of the skin that the group of three initially expected.
"That it isn't enough to kill him," Kendra stated the obvious.
"Definitely." Kristina agreed.
The girls started to examine Colton from head to toe. However, nothing was found.
It was only until Cecilia opened up Colton's shirt that she noticed a major clue.
"Guys." Cecilia kept her eyes glued to the chest of the deceased while waving her hands for Kendra & Kristina to come on over.
"What the hell..." The youngest guest, Kristina's voice shuddered as she stared at it.
At first it looked like a zip down Colton's chest. But at closer glance, the three females realised that it was a long line of stitches. The line was running down from Colton's chin to his belly button.
"Did he always have this stitch?" Cecilia asked Colton's closet Allie while he was still alive, Kristina.
"No. Absolutely not. He was always swimming with me and the others and that was never there. One hundred percent." Kristina was confident that the bizarre scar was never there in the first few days of the vacation.
The group of three then stood in silence for a few moments. They all knew what they needed to do. But, none of them really had the balls to step up.
"I don't wanna do this. But, I guess we've got to cut down this stitch?" The model, Kendra questioned.
Cecilia & Kristina looked uncomfortably towards one another.
Kendra took a sigh and with a quick grab of a scalpel, starting cutting down the wound.
"Kendra! Blood is going to get everywher-" Before Cecilia could finish her warning about the copious amount of blood which was bound to spill out of Colton's dead body, Kendra had already finished cutting out the stitches and now Colton's top of his body was separated into two equal bits.
Of course, blood got everywhere. Blood was pouring out of the body, down the morgue table and was even circulated around the group of three investigators feet. But the thing which caught the women's attention, was the deceased internals organs.
To put it in simple terms, the organs looked like they had been grilled. There were parts of the organs which were even missing, looking like they had been burnt off. The actual lining of the stomach as well was bubbling, almost like it was about to peel off.
"I'm gonna be sick." Cecilia dashed towards the sink before Kendra could investigate the organs any more.
Kristina looked petrified as Kendra pulled Colton's organs out of his body. With blood caked on the models hands.
"They're fizzing." Kendra held up the heart and one of the kidneys of Colton's body in the air to prove her point.
It didn't take long for Kristina to faint of the bloodied floor just as the investigator bell rung. Time was up for Cecilia, Kendra & Kristina. All they had found was the grilled organs and destroyed stomach of Colton.
This was definitely the most gruesome murder yet.
