: Fili x dwarf reader
: Fili decides to take you to see a pretty frozen lake. What he wasn't prepared for was when you went out onto the ice and the ice began to crack.
————
"It should be just up here," fili told you, his breath misted in the air. Fili had been talking about a frozen lake and you knew you had to see it for yourself. So here you were hand-in-hand trudging through the snow to get to this lake.
"Remind me again why I agreed to do this?" You whined because the cold snow was seeping through your shoes.
"Just a bit further my love. Trust me, it's worth it," he tightened his hand around yours. Sure enough, you stepped up and small incline and there it lie. The lake was huge and completely frozen solid. You let go of Fili's hand and raced to the edge of the water.
"It beautiful," you said as you admired the details in the ice and how the trees in the background were covered in white. You giggled as he came up behind you and wrapped his arms around you.
"Told you, you'd love it," he nuzzled your ear and you giggled from his hot breath. You squirmed out of his arms and walked into the ice. Fili immediately became concerned.
"I brought you hear to look at the ice, not stand on it! We don't even know how thick the ice is," fili looked at the ice and prodded it with his foot.
"Chill my prince; even if it was thin, I'm lighter than you think," you did a dramatic courtesy to him.
"Y/n, it doesn't feel safe. Come back here, or we're going to be late for my Uncle's speech," he tried to get you to come. You ignored it, you had to bask in this gorgeous lake while it was still here.

You stepped a couple more feet out and stopped. You looked around and found nothing, but frozen lake.
"It's so gorgeous Fili!" You exclaimed.
"I get that darling, bu-" he was cut off.
"I can see fish swimming underneath me!" You yelled. Fili thought that would be something interesting to see. You looked back at Fili and closed your eyes. You breathed in that crisp, clean, and cold air. Fili crossed his arms. You heard a faint cracking sound.
"Hmm?what was that dear?" You opened your eyes at him.
"I didn't say anything," he told matter of factly.
"Odd, I could've sworn you did,"you looked down at the fish below you and they were oddly watching you.
"Fili?" You furrowed your brows.
"Yes love?"
"Are fish supposed to be watching me?" You heard a fainter crack. The fish jumped a little. You stepped to another spot and they followed you.
"Watching you? Y/n that's absurd. C'mon I think the ice is getting to your brain," he said hurriedly. You heard a louder crack around you.
"No-no, they're even following me," you were a bit put off because it was kinda creepy. You began walking back to Fili. You heard another loud crack, this one Fili could here. You put your foot down another step, and another crack was made and you could see it beneath you. You looked at Fili with terrified eyes. His eyes reflected that.
You heard more cracks stretching in the ice," ugh Fili? What-what do I do?" You asked quickly. The fish beneath you had swam away.
"Number one, don't panic. Get low and spread yourself over the ice," You did as he said and heard another crack you whined at it.
"It's ok! It's okay, you're doing fine," fili said as he watched you get all the way down and lay out of the ice. You looked at Fili.

"Crawl slowly towards me y/n," he tried to smooth you with his voice. You began shifting you body while you slowly crawled you heard more cracks being made. You went a little further and you left foot went through. It was a bitter cold and you let out a cry.
"Y/n! It's okay it was just your foot," he tried to calm you.you felt a hit tear roll down your face. You could feel the ice breaking beneath your torso. You crawled quickly and was more than half way to Fili when everything below your tummy, fell through. You screamed.
"Fili!" The water was cold, so very cold.
"Y/n! Don't move! I'm coming! "He told you. He got down on the ice like you had and crawled to you. You let out a sob when he reached you.
"It's s-so c-c-c-cold," you said through shivers and tears.
"I know darling; here hold onto my shoulders," he orders and you obeyed. With his strength he crawled back and pulled you out of the hole. Together you crawled back to the safe land. He helped you up from the ground.
"Next time, heed my warning. We need to get these clothes off of you," he said and helped you take off your pants and underwear. You would've been extremely embarrassed, but he had seen you more bare before. Fili almost hurled at the sight of your legs. They were a light purple with red tints. You let out a breathless cry. You touched you thigh and you felt nothing.
"I can't feel it. I can't feel my legs!" You cried as you prodded them. You watched as Fili began undoing his belt.
"W-what are you doing?" You asked.
"I'm not having you go around like that," he said and handed you his pants and under garment. You put the warm clothes on and sighed with pleasure. You looked at Fili who was marching his naked butt through the snow.
"What about you not wearing pants? Surly the prince can't be seen like that!" You walked painfully toward him; leaving your soaked clothes behind.
"I've got more clothes of one of the horses, you were the first thing I wanted to make sure was dry and warm," fili wrapped his arm around you. You made it back to the horses and Fili quickly put on new dry pants. When he did he took you by the shoulders.
"Next time I tell you not do something that is potentially dangerous, will you listen to me?" He looked in your eyes. You silently nodded your head. He wiped your tears and then kissed your cold lips- instantly warming your face up. He broke the kiss and looked at you," if anything were to happen to you, I don't know what I would do."
Fili helped you get into the saddle and you rode off to Erebor. You would never go around ice again!

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
