Our first Friday night lights is this week. I'm so excited." Khia exclaimed.
"Yes, Girl. I'm so ready to show off in my uniform." Sonya said.
Khia shook her head. I wasn't listening to them too much. My mind was trying to remember the band chant we just learned. I Decided to take a break and get some water. Sonya and Khia followed me. While I was filling my bottle with water, they were talking and flirting with the football players.
"Yo Gina, lemme get some." Devon approached me. I handed him my water bottle.
"You need a ride today?" He asked.
"Uhm probably." I told him.
"Aight." He said.
He gave me back my water bottle then went back to the field. Khia, Sonya and I went back to the track.
"So when were you gonna tell us about you and Devon?" Sonya asked.
I shrugged.
"There's nothing to tell you. He just gives me rides home." I told her.
"Oh my gosh. He totally likes you. Look at you bagging a senior. Just like Gabby did." Khia said.
I looked at her. Sonya slapped her arm.
"I'm sorry Gina, I didn't mean to bring her up." Khia said.
"It's okay Khia." I told her.
I got up to go to the restroom. As I sat in the stall I thought about Gabby.
***
I sat on the couch watching the Kardashians while working on a project for English. Gabby had just returned from her date. She sat on the couch next to me and told me about her date.
"I think I'm falling for him baby sis."
"That's nice Gabby."
"Yes, I really like him. But he's a senior."
"Gabby dudes only have one thing on their mind, especially seniors when it comes to freshmen. I'm in eighth grade and I know this."

"No, he told me he likes me. He said he usually don't mess with freshmen."
"Okay Gabby. Just be careful."
"Always baby sis."

I sat in the passenger side while Devon drove me home. He's been doing this for the past week now. I wouldn't say we've got close but we became somewhat friends. He pulled into my driveway.
"Imma text you Gina. Text me back this time."
I got out his car and put my head in the window. "FaceTime me instead. I just might answer."
"Okay. You better answer."
I moved my head and went inside. There was a note on the kitchen counter. I guess my mom went out. I went up to my room and laid in my bed. I fell asleep but was awoken by my phone ringing.
"Hello."
"Hey Gina. Was you sleep?"
It was Devon. I didn't actually think he was gonna call me.
"Uhm yea. But I guess I can get up."
"Yea you should. It's like 10:00."
Damn I slept for that long. I wonder why my dad didn't wake me up. I grabbed my phone and went to the bathroom. I washed my face and fixed my hair. I went downstairs to see if anyone was home but no one was here. I checked my mom's location. She was at her office. Is she going back to work?
"Gina, you doing a lot of moving. You okay?"
"Uhm Yea. I'm fine."
I put my phone on the counter then went to get a pop tart. I went back to my room and laid in my bed. I listened to Devon talk about his day and football. I never been one to talk. I usually just let the other person talk until they can't talk anymore.

"I've talked about myself for too long. Tell me about your day." He said.
"Huh, tell you about my day?"
"Yea Gina. I wanna hear how your day went."
"Oh well my day was cool. Nothing really happens besides people coming up to me about Gabby."
"Oh. How did you feel about it?"
"About what?"
"Gabby, killing herself. I know y'all were close."
"Uhm, I, at first I was sad. You know, kinda traumatized because I saw her. But I'm starting to Uhm cope with it."
"That's good. Well I'm bout to play the game and I'm pretty sure you don't wanna hear me yelling."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye Gina."
He hung up and I pulled Gabby's diary out. I've been reading this a lot. I've learned so much about Gabby. A lot I already knew but some I didn't. Whenever I read this it feels like she's sitting in the room with me.
"Gina." My mom said opening my door.
I quickly put the book under my pillow.
"Yes mom."
"I just came to check on you. If you need a ride to school tomorrow I'll be up."
"Okay."
She closed my door and left. I decided to just go to sleep. I could read her diary later.
