Chapter Twenty-Seven
Terrorized
I was back there again. Back in Afghanistan fighting for my life and for my country. Something happened that I didn't remember. I was tied up in a room with the metallic taste of blood in my mouth. Even though the room was dark, I could still see about four people on the other side of the room tied up as well.
Mum
Dad
Rebecca
Nicole
I frantically began to try and get out of the ropes, but every time I moved, the ropes became tighter.I continued to struggle until I could no longer feel my hands and I was overcome with dizziness and fatigue.
I heard someone sneak up behind me. I tried to turn around and see who it was but a tremendous pain ripped itself through my shoulder. I winced and turned back around.
"Not so strong are we now, eh Chris?"
Ryan's voice.
He laughed and held something cold and hard to my back. Having years of experience with them, I knew exactly what it was. Every time I moved it was pressed harder into my back. I caught a glimpse of another person walking towards me. They were too far away for me to tell who it was. They carried something in their hand and was spinning it on a finger.
Dustin Carrington. One of my best friends.
He was carrying a knife in his hand and was tossing it around like a toy. He continued to walk towards me. When he reached me, he touched the knife to his hand which instantly began to bleed. He held the knife just millimeters from my throat and I moved my head back as much as I could to stay away from the piercing blade. I had to save my family. I had to.

In an incredible rush of adrenaline, I threw my legs around, knocking Ryan on his back and I swung around as quick as I could and kicked Dustin, knocking the knife onto the cement floor. I didn't like hurting them but they left me no choice. I swiftly grabbed the knife behind my back and managed to cut my arms free. I then cut my legs free an made my way over to Nicole, Mum, Dad and Rebecca. But before I could reach them, I heard a gunshot and I fell to the ground in a heap of blood and pain.
"Sorry man, you left me no choice" Ryan sneered.
I lay on the ground, inching closer to them.
I heard another gunshot.
Mum goes limp.
Another one.
Dad loses the life in his eyes.
Another one.
Rebecca collapses onto Nicole.
Nicole looked at me with an unbelievable fear in her eyes. Ryan dropped the gun to his side. He ripped the knife from my hand and began walking towards Nicole. I screamed as loud as I could as he reached her. He began to bring the knife to her neck and slowly drag it across her. I yelled at the top of my lungs but that did nothing. She let out a cry before she fell onto my mother.
I was awoken in the middle of the night. Chris was very stiff and making small jolting movements. He was breathing heavily and sweating. He was having a nightmare. I didn't want to wake him in case it was dangerous for him so I rubbed circles on his right bicep. His movements became larger and quicker. I lightly kissed his nose in an attempt to wake him. The machine that was still hooked up to him began beeping frantically and his stress level shot up.

I looked for the button to call the nurse. Finding it nowhere, Chris shot up from his sleep. He winced in pain. Sitting up that quickly, or at all, would set his shoulder off again and cause him a tremendous amount of pain. I shut my eyes tight and looked away, not wanting to see him in so much pain. I sat up as he turned towards me and wrapped his arms around me.
"Chris, stop. Your shoulder-"
"I don't care. I need you here right now"
I turned a bit so I was facing him better and I wrapped my arms around his neck resting my head in the crook of his neck.
"What's wrong honey?" I asked him. He wouldn't let me out of his grip.
"Nothing. Just a nightmare. I just need to convince myself that you're still here"
"I'm here baby, right here" I reassured rubbing his back "now lie back down, I don't want you to re-injure yourself here"
"Yes ma'am" he smiled.
I helped him back down as best I could and he pulled me over so I was almost on top of him.
"Don't leave me" he grinned.
"Why would I do that?" I asked inquiringly.
"I don't know, just don't"
"Alright Lieutenant" I saluted.
He pulled me closer to him and leaned down to kiss me. He kissed me with more passion and love than I had felt in my entire life. I felt it all the way down to my toes. How could I leave him after that?
I smiled and he pulled away before kissing me again.
"I love you Chris" I said into the kiss.
He pulled away a little. "I love you so much more Nicole"
He kissed me once again before we both fell asleep in each other's arms.
