《A Trip In Time》Chapter 4

As I was walking over to the two boys I was getting a little nervous because I wasn't sure how this was going to go. Adam was the first one to notice I was walking over and when I looked into his eyes and gave him a smile; I took a deep breath and continued on my way.
"Hello."
I did a curtsy and a little nod and the two guys bowed and gave me a little nod back. I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest and I was sure that they could see my heart pounding. Being around the two of them and not knowing how this would go was scaring me.
"Lily you look beautiful."
"Thank you Adam. You look handsome."
"Lily would you care to dance?"
He held out his hand for me to accept his offer if I wanted too. I was actually excited to have the offer and knew it would be fun to get on the dance floor even for one song.
"Adam I would love to. Excuse us Philip."
I set my hand in his and he led us out onto the dance floor. We waited for the musicians to start playing the next song and that was when we began to dance. I did miss Elizabeth making her grand entrance but I was sure that everyone else was watching her and she probably didn't even notice me not being there in the crowd. It did take a few minutes for the next song to start but once it started I was able to move along as if I have always known how to dance like this. When Adam spun me around once I noticed Elizabeth was talking to her brother looking at me, I was trying not to think about it and to just be into the dance. I continued on with the steps and before I knew it I was curtsying at the end of the song.
"Thank you Adam but I need to go get a drink now. I have to see where Elizabeth is."
I moved off the dance floor and went in search of Elizabeth, I wanted to know what she was saying when I was out there dancing. I was sure it was in my best interest to just keeping the dancing with Adam to one song. It didn't take me long to find her, if you were able to see a crowd of guys around then it was most likely she was in the middle. I had to push my way through the crowd of guys to actually reach her.
"Elizabeth there you are."
"Lily I am glad you found me. Can we go some where to talk?"
"Yes please lead the way."
"Goodbye gentlemen I will see you all later."
She started walking towards the entrance and they all moved to the side for her and allowed me to follow after her. She stopped before reaching the door way and turned to face me. I wondered if this was where we were going to talk, I didn't think it was quiet enough to have a conversation with each other but if this is where she wanted to have it.
"Lily can you meet me in the library I need to go talk to my father for a minute."
I just nodded I didn't want to argue with her and I tended to lose most arguments in the first place. I made my way through the castle to the library while walking I was trying to figure out what she needed to talk to me about in private. The walk to the library wasn't a long one because the ballroom was only a few doors down from where the library was. I walked through the library doors and decided to sit on the couch that was near the fireplace, you could feel the slight chill in the air and I didn't realize how cold it was in the castle until I got away from the ball. I wondered how long I was going to have to wait for Elizabeth to show up, I knew how bad she could get side tracked and if someone stopped her she would forget about what she wad doing in the first place. I did know I wasn't going to give her long before I left and went back to the ball, I wasn't going to spend my night waiting for her to come back to get me. The time limit I had was getting ready to expire when I heard the door open. From where I was sitting you couldn't see who was coming in but knew that it was most likely Elizabeth with her telling me to come here.

"What took you so long Elizabeth?"
I walked around the corner and almost bumped right into the person who came through the door. I was taken back a little by who walked through the door not knowing what to do in the moment.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well this is my house. I should be asking you that question."
Elizabeth was wrong about her brother, Philip had not changed since his time away from the castle. He was still the arrogant jerk that was able to get under my skin and annoy me without even blinking.
"If you must know I was waiting for your sister. She told me she had to talk to me and that she would meet me here as soon as she was done talking with your father but I am beginning to think that she forgot like she normally did."
"She is busy talking to Lord Chamberlin's son. She has either forgotten about you or she did this on purpose."
He was laughing as he talked which just made me more upset with him. He always found the things I did hilarious. I just gave him a questioning stare, how could she be doing this on purpose.
"She told me to meet her in the library that she wanted to share news with me."
Now I understood what he was talking about. She had tricked both of us into coming to the library not knowing the other would be here. For some reason she believed that we would be perfect together and I didn't see it. He has been a pain in my side since we moved here when I was eleven.
"I am going to hurt her when I see her next. I am sorry about all of this. I will see you at the ball."
I started to head around Philip to leave the library and go find Elizabeth. I wasn't going to fall for this little plan for Elizabeth and she needed to know she couldn't mess with everyone's life for her amusement.
"Stop."
He commanded out of no where. I stopped just an inch from the door, a part of me wanted to keep going but I knew that I wouldn't be able to disobey him he was the next king. He had the control and he knew that he did.
"Yes?"
"Why did she do this? I know my sister and she doesn't do things without a reason. You are her friend you must have an idea."
"My guess it was to get us alone to prove her point."
"What point is that?"
"You know how your sister is, when she gets an idea she will do anything to see it through. Well she believes that you like me because last night when I came to the ball with Adam you just stared at me. She has this whole idea and now she won't let it go."
"Lily I have known you for a few years now and I have always known why your family was brought to court. But I wasn't certain until I was sent away from court last year, and coming home my father had a talk with me."
"What did you find out in this talk?"
"Your parents haven't talked to you yet?"
"No my mother has been acting strange but that is it."
"Lily seven years ago my parents started looking into negotiations to find my future bride and the future Queen for this kingdom. They wanted someone that was kind, caring and someone who would stand up to me when I am wrong but also be by my side through it all. It was last year right before I left that they negotiated with your family and everyone believed you would be the perfect fit for me. I wasn't able to see what they were talking about and that is why I left court I went to another castle because I refused to let my parents choose you as my bride. I couldn't see spending all my time with you when all we did was fight."

I knew that what he was saying shouldn't make me upset but he was able to really get under me. Did he think I wouldn't make a good queen that I would fail at everything. What about me having to put up with him all the time if he went through with this, I didn't have a say in this at all.
"You don't need to worry Philip I will talk with my parents tell them that this isn't what we want. That I can't marry you that we will never have feelings for each other; I know my mom will be upset but my father he will listen and I will get us out of this even if I have to beg."
"Lily that isn't what I was trying to say. Yes a year ago I wanted nothing to do with you and I couldn't see us ever being able to be married and live a happy life where one of us wouldn't be miserable. It wasn't until I came back last night and saw you dancing with Adam that I realized I could have missed my chance. Lily I believe that my parents were right, they gave us time to know each other they didn't just jump into this. I want to see how this could go between us, I knw you bring out the best in me because of how you challenge me and having you by my side will be the best decision ever. I know it took me awhile to see this and I know that I may not be the only one after your heart but I want to prove that I am the best option."
I was stunned, I didn't know what to say and I was just standing in place. Philip was telling me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and he believed we could make a wonderful marriage and be able to rule together. I let myself picture what it would be like to be married to him and how happy we could be but I had to shut that off quickly I had made the mistake of letting the emotions through for a second but I couldn't do that again. I won't be here long and I don't want any attachments when I go home. When I finally could think again I knew I had to get out of here. Without thinking I turned back to the door and took a deep breath and put my hand on the knob.
"I am sorry but I can't do this."
With that I opened the door and took off towards the ball, I didn't want to see the look in his eyes. I slowed my walk down as I got closer to the ball room when I walked into the hall to turn into the room I saw my mom in the entry way talking with fellow nobles she smiled when she saw me. I just nodded and continued on into the room, I knew she would be able to tell something was wrong and I didn't want to have that conversation with her right now. Elizabeth was next to me in a second and had this big smile on her face. I knew she was hoping things went great with her brother and I but I didn't want to hurt him.
"Did you talk with Philip?"
"Yes we ran into each other in the library but I'm sorry Elizabeth it just won't work how everyone wants it to. I need to get out of here, can I use one of your maids to change?"
"What happened?"
"I can't talk about it. There is just too much going on and no one will understand."
Standing here waiting for her to let me know about her maids was taking to long and I knew Phillip would be on his way here or it would get around soon that I turned the prince down. I needed to leave the ball now and I couldn't change before doing that, I would just bring her dress home after I cleaned it up. Of course I would have to see if they let me on the castle grounds ever again after what happened tonight.
"Lily stop! You will talk to me!"
Elizabeth had never yelled before at me but I still didn't have all my memories back and with each minute that I immersed myself into this world the more I would remember and the less I remembered about my life back in the modern time. I turned back around to face her and the few people who were around were now listening to us to see what was happening.
"Elizabeth there is nothing to talk about."
"There is obviously something going on. I want you to be able to talk to me like you use to. Is it because of my brother?"
"No it isn't. I am not talking about anything here where people are listening to us."
"Fine follow me."
She grabbed my arm and dragged me through everyone and up the stairs which made a few more heads turn. It was when we were at the top of the stairs and I turned around everyone was watching and Philip was at the bottom of the stair case. I saw the look in his eyes but before he could make a move, she pulled me into her room and shut the door.
"Now tell me what is going on."
"You are going to have me locked up."
"No I won't. Now tell me."
"The reason why I don't remember much past today is because I don't belong here. I came from a future time that is many years from now."
"Lily what are you talking about? You think you are from another time?"
"I know it sounds crazy but yes. I believe that I came here from the future and I need to find a way home."
"I don't know anything about jumping through time but maybe the royal seer could help us."
She smiled and I felt a bit of relief that I was able to tell someone the truth and she didn't think I was crazy and she wasn't acting like she was having me locked away. There was still a part of me that wondered if this would still end with my being thrown in a cell with the key tossed away.
"Come on let's go to his chambers down stairs."
I have never been in the seer's room before and was getting a little nervous about going down there but Elizabeth seemed so sure that it would be for the best to go there to get the answers that I needed. Once talking to him maybe everything would make sense and I can move on.
"Okay let's go talk to him."
We left the room and made our way down a back staircase so no one could see us. It felt like someone was following us but when ever I turned around no one was there. Even with the feeling I couldn't get ride of, we continued down the stairs until we came to a hall way that I have never been too.
"His room is over here."
"Is he even going to be here or will he be at the ball?"
"No he is here. He never goes to the balls."
She knocked on the door and waited for someone to come to the door. It only took a few minutes before someone open the door.
"Hello your highness how may I help you?"
"Hello I need you to help my friend. You see she believes she has traveled in time from a place in the future and we want to know if this is true and if it is, how she can get back."
He looked at her and then he locked eyes with me and while looking at him it was like he went somewhere else. I couldn't tell what was going on and after a few minutes he seemed to come back to the conversation we were having.
"You have a decision to make my young girl. You can choose between living in a world you know or deciding if you want to see where this world can take you."
"I can choose to go home if I want too?"
"Yes or you can stay here and I want you to know don't make any decisions until you think it all out."
"How will I be able to get home?"
"That I don't know. When it is time for you to decide you will know."
With that he shut his door and left us to being alone in the hall way. It was all up to me if I wanted to go back or stay here for the first time I get to decide what my life can be. I knew that I wanted to go back home that I wanted to be with my friends and family from that world. The seer told me I would know when it was time to make the choice but I didn't want to wait and what could I change being here.
"Lily isn't that great. You can stay here."
"I don't know if I can stay here though, I have a life in the future that I need to get back too I left people behind in that world."
"I understand. Let's go back to the ball."
She wasn't as happy as she once was and I knew it was because of what I said, I followed behind her as we went back up the stair case. Instead of going all the way up to the floor where her room was we stopped in the middle and just came out of the area where the kitchen was, we made our way into the entry way of the party. Elizabeth continued on her way not looking back to see if I was following her but I knew better than to follow her, she was mad and it was going to take some time for her to be okay again.
"What did you do to my sister?"
"Nothing, she is just upset by a answer I gave her."
"You just seem to be upsetting everyone tonight."
I knew that was jab for how I responded back at the library and tonight I didn't seem to be making the right choices. I wasn't sure how I would go about fixing all of this but I was trying to figure out what to say to him that would make him okay again when it wouldn't feel like at any moment he was going to explode on me.
"There you are. I was looking for you. Would you care to dance with me?"
I smiled when I saw Adam was by my side, it was he could sense when I needed him here. I just nodded and put my hand in his. I didn't look back at Philip or wait for him to say anything but the worse thing was I shouldn't care what he thinks I was leaving here and wouldn't have to worry about him ever again. Adam led me to the middle of the dance floor and we joined in on the middle of the dance. I wasn't sure how much longer this night was going to go but I was ready for it to be over. We danced for the next three songs until I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.
"Lily may I have the next dance?"
It was Philip I didn't know what to say or how to react but I didn't have to say anything Adam decided for me. He bowed which I curtsied and he gave my hand to Philip. I watched as Adam walked off the dance floor and disappeared into the crowd. Turning back to Philip seeing his eyes I knew he might go off and make me feel on the outside how I felt on the inside.
"I know you don't want to talk to me but please listen. I should have waited and let your parents tell you but I thought it would be better if you heard it from me and I didn't think you would think so little of me that you would hate the idea."
I want to say something but he gave me the look that I was just supposed to listen. We continued to dance as he paused to take a breath.
"The ball will be ending after this song and I don't want you to make any decisions right now. Just because of parents are arranged this doesn't mean I don't want to court you and prove to you that I am the right guy for you."
We finished the dance everyone bowed and curtsied and then clapped for the musicians. The ball was over and I knew I had to find my mom to head home. I started to walk towards where are carriage would be but before I could get to the carriage Philip grabbed my wrist.
"Lily please meet me at the fountain in the garden tomorrow around noon."
I just nodded to let him know I would be there tomorrow. It didn't take me long to find my mom who was with my father. I was a little surprised to see him but I assumed he came with my mom, once I was in front of them; he gave me a hug then we headed out to the carriage.
