《Whodunnit ?》Chapter 1 - The Arrivals

It all seemed fine. Thirteen lucky American citizens had won the opportunity of a lifetime, an all expenses paid trip to the Rue Manor Mansion. Two weeks of luxury, which will leave you red in the face once you leave.
However, this two-week trip wasn't like any other.
This wasn't a trip.
This was a game, a brutal game of life and death. With only one winner emerging at the end.
It was a game that was all too familiar to butler Giles, Giles had already been through this game three years ago at the very same manor in Los Angeles.
At the time he had no inkling that Cris, the former 'Miss Nevada' would go on
to murder her fellow eleven contestants. But after he found out he knew the game was just at its starting point.
And now after three long years, it was happening again. One new killer, Twelve unsuspecting guests. And one winner who would get to walk out of Rue Manor, with their life intact.

Giles hurriedly adjusted his bow tie which seemed like it was squirming under the heat of the Los Angeles sun. His nerves were settling in once again, he knew that he had to suspect anyone now. Anyone of those thirteen people which would soon be arriving could be his boss. (And a deadly one for sure).
And after such surprising reveal in the last game. Anything could happen.
Just as Giles was ready to recover in the shade of Rue Manors driveway, a single black limo pulled up to the estate.
As the driver hopped out of the limo, he opened the back door and the passenger climbed out swiftly.
She was Courtney Fox, A well-known lawyer in the Wisconsin area. Courtney had built her reputation up from scratch and was the lawyer to go to nowadays. If anyone could win a case, it would be her.
"Hello, I'm Courtney." Courtney greeted Giles, shaking his hand respectively.
"Ah! Miss Fox, We've been expecting you. Please do make yourself feel at home and wait inside the great room to meet the other guests." Giles's strong English accent directed Courtney to the direction of the great room. Which was behind the large mahogany doors of the manor.

"Will do!" Courtney nodded enthusiastically before stepping into the manor.
A few moments later the next black limousine pulled up to the manor.
That limousine held Jamie Llyod, a forty-five-year-old carpenter from Miami. Jamie had a striking smile as he stepped out of the limousine. The two weeks at the Rue Manor was much better than his normal workplace back in Miami, a clammy office filled to the brim with overdue paperwork.
"Welcome to Rue Manor Mr. Llyod." Giles greeted the carpenter.
"Hello. Nice place you've got here." Jamie gazed at the manor, in awe of the striking features.
"Another guest is inside if you'd like to meet her?" Giles offered Jamie. Knowing that Jamie didn't want to be in the heat as much as Giles did.
Jamie replied with a quick nod and made his way into the manor.
After a minute or so before Jamie's limousine had pulled up the next made its way up the driveway.
The passenger of the limousine practically fell out of the car. Clearly excited for her stay at the stunning manor.
She was Talia Hanson, The twenty-two-year-old had an undeniable energy. Maybe that was because of her successful dance career that she was known for being a happy sport.
"Hey, I'm Talia!" Talia greeted Giles, giving the butler a long handshake.
"Hello, Miss." Giles laughed slightly, almost forgetting that there was a small percentage of hope left for the young girl.
"I'm gonna go inside." Talia stated before walking into the manor, with a big spring in her step.
The next few limousines pulled up later. Holding up traffic in the driveway as the three drivers tried to park in the designated spaces. The three passengers climbed out of the limousines almost simultaneously.
Those guests were Reynold Jiggon , Brianna Doan & Justin Ells.
Reynold Jiggon was a doctor from the Tampa Bay Area. Much like Jamie, he was happy to get out of his hectic lifestyle as a doctor. And even getting away from his family for a while.

Brianna Doan was a twenty-four-year-old kickboxer. She was dedicated to being an athlete. And her high ranking at the 2012 London Olympics was no surprise to the U.S team, nor to the other countries in fact.
The last of the three to greet Giles was Justin Ellis. Justin had been unemployed for quite some time before coming to Rue Manor. He had been living on his mom's couch for two years now and getting the trip to Rue Manor was a definite upgrade for him.
As Reynold & Justin walked into the great room, Brianna returned outside to Giles.
"Do you have a gym at this mansion?" Brianna asked, begging in her head that Giles would have the answer that pleased Brianna.
"Yes, Miss Doan."Giles confirmed.
"Great!" Brianna then made her way back to the great room of the manor.
As Brianna entered the manor the next limousine pulled up.
Greg Luton swiftly stepped out of the limousine. Greg was forty-five years old and was a Nutritionist from Austin, Texas.
"I'm Greg." Greg greeted butler Giles, shaking his hand enthusiastically.
"I am Giles, and I will be your butler for the duration of your stay here. Please make your way into the manor and greet your fellow guests."
"Nice to meet you, Giles. I'll see you around." Greg's thick Texan accent trailed off as he walked into the manor.
After a long time of Giles waiting, the next limo pulled up to the driveway.
Dan Greash stepped out of the limousine. Dan was a well-known footballer for the biggest football team in Miami, Florida. Even though he was at the young age of twenty-five he was a multi-millionaire. So a massive mansion was no surprise to him anymore.
Dan only gave Giles a confident nod before entering the manor.
The next limousine carried Michelle Lawson. She was twenty-six and like Justin was also unemployed. She was living in San Diego to try and kick off her acting career but it hadn't materialized for her yet.
Next up was Nelson, Nelson was a forty-year-old charity worker from Arizona. He worked very hard for feeding the homeless on the streets of Arizona and said if he could; that he would have brought some of the homeless with him to the stunning mansion.
As the next limousine pulled up, the passenger climbed out with her hand firmly grasped on her phone. Natalie Underwood was a social media marketer. So, in a nutshell, she makes money for advertising new apps and games online.
"Miss Underwood, You've read the rules. There are no mobile phones allowed during your stay here." Giles warned Natalie sternly, knowing that if the police were contacted that the game would be over. And most likely his life.
After signing out of her several social media account, Natalie handed her phone over to Giles.
"Thank you, Mrs. Underwood. You will receive your phone back when you leave Rue Manor."
"If you get out." Giles mumbled under his breath.
The last two limousines pulled up the Rue Manor driveway simultaneously.
The last two guests to arrive were Hannah Taylor & Alec Kallimaster. As far as personalities and professions went, Hannah & Alec were complete opposites. Hannah was very much the more sophisticated one out of the two. Wearing a very elegant dress that looked like it had never been touched. Whereas Alec had turned up the manor with a normal t-shirt and jeans (still slightly oil stained from the oil rig he works at).
"Ah! Miss. Taylor and Mr. Kallimaster. You are the last two guests to arrive. Please do come inside." Giles greeted the last two guests and guided them into the manor. Knowing that the last sign of hope for twelve guests innocent lives was well and truly over.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
