《A Dragon Rider's Element》Only One King ( 52 )

Athena flew straight to the black storm of smoke that circle above Cinderella's castle. Several of Zeref's flying beast guarded the castle but I didn't have time to waste with pointless fights. We evaded them easily because what the beast had in strength they lacked in brains. Athena easily flew above the black storm and hovered there.

"Do we have a plan?"

"Don't die?"

"Glorious."

I raised my hand at the black smoke and white light danced off the tips of my fingers. I closed my eyes to focus on the new power within me. My white light reached out and combatted the black smoke. The darkness hissed like water on a hot pan as the light forced its way through to create a crack in the wall of smoke. Athena wasted no time and flew through the crevice.

It's said that when you're inside the eye of the storm it's calm and there's no wind at all, but it seemed that Zeref's storm didn't abided those rules. As soon as we enter the inside of the storm the wind raged and scraped against my body like pins and needles. The wind was so strong that even Athena had trouble flying straight, but she was far too stubborn to be blown away into the tornado of winds.

I looked down at the heart of Disney and on what had been the tallest tower of the castle now stood Zeref, who had blown apart the top of the tower so now it was only a flat circle that was littered with steel beams and fake stone plaster from the fairytale castle.

Zeref had already spotted me and stood facing me with a wicked grin. His stare chilled my blood and the red and bloody burn on the left side of his face didn't help any. I quickly realized that it was Ty's work. The burn covered most of his left side and was the densest around his eye then it spidered out in a jagged lightning pattern.

"I see him."

"I do too. You ready for this?"

"He will regret the day he was born."

"That's my girl."

Athena flew forward and circled the tower before gently landing on the opposites side of Zeref. Athena stood up tall but folded in her wings but I stayed on her back.

"Welcome, Rider", Zeref grinned.

"A pleasure to be here", I lied sarcastically.

"It truly is. You're lucky to be able to witness the rebirth of the world and my coronation as the one true king of all."

"You think the world would follow to you after you destroy it?"

He laughed heinously at me and raise his arms in the air with a wicked grin, " You know nothing about the world. It doesn't matter what happens here today. The winners write the history books and after I kill you no one will tell this story and I will write history to crown me as the one and only King. History will only remember you as the hideous she-devil that destroyed the Earth before she was slain the magnificent God Zeref struck her down with a single strike."

"A single strike? You overestimate yourself."

"We'll see", Zeref finished before raising his hand and calling his pet," Vacuo!"

The black beast crawled up from the side of the tower. It's large ivory claws digging into the castle. It took its place next to its master and let out a hiss at me and Athena. Athena did the same unfazed by the larger dragon's threat.

Zeref mounted the Vacuo and from black smoke, he summoned his weapon, the Arch sword.

Zeref pointed the sword at me and the Vacuo opened it's mouth and blasts a stream of fire at us. Athena met the fire with her breath. The two streams of fire collided. Neither force gave as Athena lifted off into the air. Both Dragons ended the assault as I looked down at Zeref.

He smirked at me before signaling the Vacuo into the air. The Vacuo lept up from the tower and charged at Athena. The dragons connected with a powerful force of wind. The Vacuo bit down onto Athena's shoulder. She roared at the rival dragon before she opened her mouth and breathed fire at its back. Zeref raised his hand and blocked the fire around him with an invisible force. But the fire still burned the back of the Vacuo, it roared and released Athena. She then pushed off the Vacuo and flew higher up into the sky.

The Vacuo quickly regained itself and flew after us. Athena was both smaller and faster than the Vacuo and easily put a good distance between us. I tighten my grip on my sword as I tried to steady my breathing. Athena swiftly turned and charged the pursuing Vacuo. The Vacuo hovered and readied its fire breath for Athena. She swiftly dodged it again and then she dug her claws into its shoulder and swung behind the larger dragon.

Athena bit down onto the Vacuo's left wing and trashed, trying to dismember it. The Vacuo roared in pain at the attempt. Without the use of one of its wings, the Vacuo started to fall with all of us in tow.

The spinning disoriented everyone but I somehow managed to raise my sword and swing at Zeref. He raised his own sword and block it with the blade. He returned my attack and raised his other hand. Several black tendrils burst from his hand and attached to my leg and my arm that held my sword.

The black tendrils felt like they were made of broken glass. Each time I pulled to get free my trapped limbs were graced with a thousand cuts. My crimson blood ran down the blade of Larazus's black sword.

I heard Zeref laugh as the tendrils pulled me closer to him. With my free limbs, I grabbed onto Athena's saddle and hung on with all I had. I couldn't help but scream while the tendrils easily cut through the chainmail of my armor. At that moment I was thankful for the steel plating of the silver armor that held strong against the magic.

In a feat of desperation, a ignited my fire around my entrapped limbs. The magic tendrils hissed and burned away like tiny strings. Now free I focused my fire aimed it at Zeref and created a stream of fire that rivaled Athena's.

He put up a shield of magic to protect himself from the flame it worked but I could see the strain in his face. I could win if I kept this up but there was a problem. We were still falling and the ground was fast approaching. Athena had on choice but to pull off before we hit the ground.

The Vacuo was unable to regain its flight due to its size and injured wing. It smashed into the artificial castle and fell to the ground directly on top of the statue of Walt and Mickey.

Both Zeref and the Vacuo laid still on the concrete before Cinderella's castle. Athena hovered over the pair and watched them with a deadly glare. When neither moved she landed and allowed me to dismount.

I gripped the hilt of my sword tightly as I slowly walked over to the large black dragon. It was still alive, but the wounds from Athena and the fall had weakened it greatly. Zeref on the other hand seemed more angry than hurt.

The large black body of the Vacuo had him pinned to the ground. If he was a normal person the weight, but he was an ancient sorcerer and I wasn't that lucky.

Zeref clawed at the body of the Vacuo, growling like a wounded animal. I saw the hilt of the arch sword wedged under the black of the Vacuo. I kneeled down next to Zeref and pull the sword out from under the dragon. The sword burned my hand for a moment before a soft white light enveloped both my hand and the sword then it faded.

Still kneeling next to Zeref I asked, " What happened to that single strike?"

" Don't you dare mock me", He hissed.

" Oh I dare", I said inspecting the arch sword in my hands. I then lowered the blade and cut a five-point star onto his cheek. But I was just testing him as it healed.

"I will kill you!", Zeref fumed.

I laughed at him before repealing, " I hate to be that person but you're that very threatened in this position."

"Then let us change that."

Zeref reached out and grabbed my arm then yelled in another language. Pain shot through my body. I dropped but my swords and screamed. Athena roared and ran to my side but was stopped when the Vacuo rose from the ground. Black smoke poured from the many cuts from the Vacuo skin. Soon the many wounds healed and the black beast roared with newfound adrenaline.

The Vacuo met Athena charge and the two dragons began to brawl with their teeth and claws in a brutal struggle. My dragon despairingly tried to reach my side, but the lager dragon kept her at back.

Zeref picked up the arch sword from the ground and stood to his full height and his burned face stare down at me menacingly as I crumbled to the ground. He laughed as I screamed. I desperately tried to stand and fight the pain coursing through my body, but it was hopeless as the pain increased.

"This is your end."

The only response I give was more screams as he raised the arch sword to deliver the fatal blow. I heard Athena roar in the distance, but I didn't have the strength to look over at her. My eyes fell closed as I waited for the blade, that would be my end.

I hated myself as I envisioned all the people I failed.

Athena who had foolishly chosen me to be her rider. Ty who had done nothing but protect me. Sardis who had fought so hard to free himself of this evil. Alex and Roy who had never left my side or hesitated to be there. Tenaglia who gave her life for me. Maria whose faith in me never wavered, and my mom.

My mom the one person in my life that I had never met, but loved all the same. She left the light to me and here I am on my knees getting ready to die. I failed her and everyone else that I loved.

I felt the tears run down my cheeks as Zeref swung the sword at my throat. With the sword falling to my neck I whispered.

"I'm sorry."
