Chapter 21 ~ Don't
Scar Patterson
There was something about Jamie's demeanor that was angry. I wasn't sure if it was because I had insisted to accompany him on this car-stealing trip, but his hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his eyes remained fixed on the road, and his foot pushed harder on the gas. I had to hold onto my seat and constantly check if my seatbelt was secure in response to Jamie's fast, aggressive driving.
"Dude, can you slow down, please?" I tried to ask in a calm voice, but it sounded more like a frightened squeal. "You're pushing eighty."
Jamie's lips curved into a smile, but he still didn't slow down. "What happened to being able to handle a little danger, huh?"
A little danger, I was completely fine with. I didn't expect Jamie to take me to an underground garage filled with cars and cameras. I stood by as he did his thing, growing more scared by the second. I was almost sure someone was going to catch us, but in about ten minutes time, we were already on the highway in a way more luxurious car compared to my Jeep. Not only was I scared out of my mind for being an accomplice in this dirty deed, Jamie didn't help ease my mind by going thirty miles over the speed limit and having no remorse about it.
"How can you be so calm?" I questioned him. "Don't you have a conscience or something?"
He shrugged. "I do. I just choose not to listen to it."
Rolling my eyes and turning to look out the window, I became incredibly freaked out by how fast the trees were whooshing past us. "I think I'm going to puke," I commented, which successfully made Jamie's eyes snap to mine.
"Do not," he spat. "If you puke in this car, my boss will kill me. But not before I kill you first."
I pressed myself against the window and stared at him with wide eyes. "I wasn't being serious."
He clenched his jaw before returning his eyes to the road, slamming hard on the gas and allowing us to climb up another ten miles per hour. The only thing that eased my mind was the fact that it was three in the morning and there was barely anyone on the road.
"I told you not to come," he began, "but you insisted, so please don't whine and complain."
He was right. I brought this on myself, so I couldn't complain. "But can you please slow down?"
He sighed. "No, I'm on a tight schedule."
"Couldn't your boss wait like another day or something?"
He sighed again. "No."
"Why? Does he not have a family or something to do other than harass you?"
"No."
"Is he scary looking?"
He snapped his gaze to mine. "Please stop asking questions."
The irritated tone he used convinced me to stay quiet. I sunk further into my seat and squeezed my eyes shut to prevent myself from freaking out from the ridiculously fast speed we were going.
By the time we arrived at Jamie's destination, I had already had several heart attacks. I'd never done anything rebellious besides drinking when I wasn't supposed to, which wasn't nearly as illegal as stealing cars was. What bothered me the most was that Jamie was completely fine with it. He acted like we hadn't just stolen an expensive car.

"Stay in the car," he ordered me as he slid out of the driver's seat and made his way to the front door of what looked like a mansion. If this was the boss' house then holy motherfucking cow! He had to be rich.
I wasn't a fan of Jamie's rebellious side. Just because he was comfortable with what he was doing didn't mean he had to order me around. I was perfectly capable of doing things for myself, so instead of staying in the car like he told me to do, I followed him to the front door.
"You don't listen, do you?" He asked me with a slight smile.
I shrugged. "There's no way I'm letting you do this by yourself, Jamie. Now that I know what you do, you can expect them I'll be there every step of the way."
He rolled his eyes. "Okay, Mom."
The door opened wide and a tall, well-built man with caramel colored skin and a growing dark five o'clock shadow stood on the other side, grinning widely. "Hello there, Myers..." He switched his dark gaze to mine, "...and company."
Jamie cleared his throat. "The car's out front. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to go back home now."
The black man chuckled at Jamie's words, but still kept his eyes on me, making me suddenly feel uncomfortable. "This must be the boyfriend you always talk about," he commented as his eyes traveled down the length of my body then flicked back up to my face. "He's cute."
I looked to Jamie for some kind of confirmation that this was actually happening right now, but he refused to meet my eyes. "Don't talk about him like that," he ordered in a fiery tone. "I delivered the car. It's late and I'd like my money."
The man cocked his head to the side, not once letting his grin fade as he pulled out a wad of rolled up cash from his pocket and slipped it into Jamie's hands. "Come on, Myers. Don't just leave me hanging like that. Why don't you and your boyfriend come inside? I've got drinks." He propped the door open wider as he took a few steps back, giving us space to enter.
There was something off about this guy. "Isn't it illegal for an adult to supply alcohol to a minor?"
The man looked directly at Jamie with that same stupid grin on his face. "It's also illegal for a minor to have sex with an adult."
I furrowed my brows. "What?"
He shrugged. "It's just a fun fact. So, what will it be Myers? Are you coming or going? Or are you coming and then going? Or maybe, you'll be coming and staying?" He left the door open for us and walked back into his house.
I had expected Jamie to turn around and walk out because everything about this guy spelled creep, but he didn't. His fingers traced down my arm and interlocked with mine, and he led me into the house.
I had to take a moment to admire the interior of the house. It honestly looked like something from the movies, or something only celebrities would own. With a pristine look and a conservative aura, I knew I would never be able to afford a place like this in my lifetime.
I caught a glimpse of the older man who was propped up against the kitchen island, fanning himself with his hand. "It's hot in here, don't you think?" He didn't wait for an answer as he slid his plain t-shirt over his head and tossed it to the floor, revealing seemingly perfect abs and a toned chest.

Jamie squeezed my hand a little tighter.
"Dude," I whispered into his ear, noticing the weirdness of this situation. "What the hell is he doing?"
He sighed heavily. "I wish I knew."
The boss shot us a quick, flirtatious smile before retrieving two bottles of wine from one of the kitchen cabinets, as well as three wine glasses, and he set them down on the island. "Perhaps we should have a toast to the start of a new, healthy, relationship." He began to pour the white wine into each glass.
Jamie clenched his jaw tight. "Dante, we really need to go."
Dante glanced at Jamie and gave him a friendly smile. "Sure, sure, but at least have a sip first. This wine has been aged to perfection and I didn't really have a reason to open it. As you can see, I don't have a young, hot boyfriend of my own." He gazed at me again with those hungry eyes.
I didn't know how Jamie could stand in the same room as this guy, let alone work for him. "One sip," Jamie said, as if to remind himself. "One sip and we can leave?"
Dante handed us both a glass. "Just one sip is all it takes to become addicted and keep coming back for more no matter how much you don't want to."
Jamie breathed in sharp breath before taking a sip of his wine. He scrunched his face in distaste and placed the glass on the island. "It was great. Now, we'll be leaving." He gave me an urgent look that told me we needed to leave as soon as possible, and I agreed. We both made a beeline to the front door but just as I was about to step onto the porch, Dante grabbed onto my arm with his strong hand.
I whipped around and stared at him. "Dude." He was standing so close that I could practically smell his cologne. It was manly, but sweet, almost. It didn't smell all that great on him, but it was the kind of cologne that was meant to be worn on Jamie, and only Jamie.
"Pleasure him for me, will you?"
Now I knew why Jamie didn't want me to come. Yanking my hand out of his grasp and not even bothering to respond, I hurried out of the door to catch up with Jamie who had already begun the walk home.
"I hope you don't mind walking," he said to me with a small smile.
I hated being wrong and if I was wrong, then it could ruin the way Jamie looked at me. But I just had to know.
"You slept with him, didn't you?"
Jamie stopped in his strides and turned to face me with a bewildered look morphing onto his face. "What?"
"That day when Francesca and Trey confronted me about being gay, you abandoned me. I didn't really think much of it until I saw you later that day. You smelled different, but I didn't take much notice of it. But back in there, I smelled the exact same cologne you were wearing. The only difference is ... You weren't wearing it."
Jamie huffed and smiled a little. "Don't be ridiculous, Scar. Just because we wear the same cologne doesn't mean we slept together."
I tilted my head to the side, studying him. "I may not be used to this whole gay thing, but I think I know a sexual innuendo when I hear one. Everything that came out of his mouth was something suggestive. I figured that was apart of his personality, but you didn't do anything to stop him."
Jamie chewed on his bottom lip as he stared off into the distance.
"So, did you? Did you have sex with him, too?"
He gazed down at his hands and released a heavy sigh. "Yes."
I had been hoping that I would be wrong. "How many times?"
He shook his head. "Scar..."
"How many times?" I repeated in a louder voice.
Jamie's eyes began to glisten with water. "A few."
I grabbed fistfuls of my hair and began to pace in a small circle, trying to process all of this information. I couldn't look at him the same way again. Not after knowing what I knew.
"Scar," Jamie pleaded with me. "It was before you asked me to be your boyfriend. We weren't really together when I had sex with him."
That made me snap, and the next thing I knew I had fisted my hands into his shirt and was pushing him against a nearby tree. "This has nothing to do with you having sex with him. It was before we were official, yes, I get that. What makes me angry is that I fucking came out to the whole school for you! I faced public humiliation for you! I gave up my football scholarship for you! I got suspended for you! I let you stay in my house because I care for you! And the only thing I asked for in return was for you to be there for me. And what do you do? Fuck your boss?! Tell me how you are any different from Francesca!"
The tears had already escaped his eyes, and it was the first time I had seen him cry. I could feel a tiny pang of guilt in my heart, but the rage overpowered it.
"You don't understand," he whimpered. "He pays me."
My grip on his shirt grew tighter. "He pays you to have sex with him? So what? Are you a prostitute now?"
He shook his head and wiped away his tears with the back of his hand. "I know what I did was wrong. I know. I didn't want to do it, but I needed the money."
I pressed him against the tree harder. "You need the money so bad that you were willing to abandon me to get it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's selfish! And that's coming from me."
His blue eyes turned into a dark cobalt color as his lips quivered and he drowned himself in his tears. "I'm sorry."
I released my grip on him and took a few steps backwards. "Why is it that every time I fall in love with someone, they just have to go and stab me in the back? What did I ever do to anyone?" I wasn't talking to him any more, I was talking to myself.
Jamie adjusted the neckline of his shirt and he swallowed a lump in his throat. "What?"
I glanced back at him. "Nothing." He attempted to grab my hand, but I pulled mine away. "It's a long walk back home," I told him and began to walk ahead of him.
And what a long, silent walk it was.
**
It was daybreak when we got back home. I was already tired from staying up so late, and I was even more tired from walking such a long distance to arrive back at my house. I didn't speak to Jamie the whole walk, and he didn't speak to me.
As soon as I stepped into the house, I headed straight for the attic. We probably wouldn't talk for days, because I was such a hopeless romantic for taking things too seriously. If Francesca was out of the picture, then maybe it wouldn't have been a big deal. But Jamie knew about what happened with Francesca, so I couldn't understand why he would betray me like that.
I thought back to when Max told me that Jamie loved sex. Maybe this was a psychological thing. Maybe Jamie was incapable of not having sex. Maybe it was his own way of coping.
I began to laugh at myself for already trying to rationalize Jamie's behavior, just like I did with Francesca. No matter what she did, I would always try to see the good in her and I knew I would always try to see the good in Jamie.
And there was a lot of good in him. Somehow, he was able to fill the hole in my heart that I've had since my dad died. Jamie was able to take all my worries away and just make me forget about the world. No one has ever done that before.
I had no idea how I was going to deal with the conflicting feelings I felt in my heart. All I knew is that I had to get rid of all this energy in some shape or form.
When I spotted the piano sitting in the corner of the attic with dust lacing the keys and a bunch of Amy's old toys sitting on top of it, I nearly smiled. Ever since my dad died, I never laid a hand on the piano again. But in this very moment, it was like he was telling me to, because I had this sudden urge to play like I'd never played before.
I took a seat on the stool and stared blankly at the keys. Different melodies and notes flooded my mind at that very instant, but I didn't know how to transfer it from my brain and to the piano, like I had suddenly forgotten how to play.
I pressed one key and that seemed to be the trigger. Once I heard the familiar sound of the middle C echoing throughout the attic, I pressed another key. Then it all came back to me, and before I could even register it, my fingers were playing Beethoven's Für Elise.
I had gotten so lost in the melody of the song that I didn't realize Jamie was standing right next to me until I finished the song. He gave me a round of applause while smiling at me. "That was really beautiful."
I folded my hands into my lap. "Thanks."
Jamie took a seat on the stool beside me. "Scar, I know what I did was horrible. It was stupid. It was selfish. It was the worst decision I have ever made, and I regret it. I completely understand if you want to kick me out and never talk to me again."
I found myself smiling. "I'm not going to kick you out."
"Why not?" He asked, lifting a brow.
"Because that would mean everything that happened this week was all for nothing."
Jamie's eyes lit up with excitement "You mean, you still want to be with me?"
"It would be a lie if I didn't," I admitted. "I like you a lot, Jamie. That's saying a lot because you've managed to turn me gay."
He rolled his eyes. "I didn't turn you gay."
"Don't interrupt," I snapped playfully. "You managed to turn me gay for you, and that really freaked me out at first. But now that I'm spending more time with you, I realize that I don't care about your gender. All I care about is you, and I'm not letting you go because of a big, scary, black guy. As long as you agree to not sleep with him again, of course."
He held out his pinky. "Agreed."
I interlocked my pinky with his and shook it. "I want to try something."
"What is it?"
"I don't want you to ever feel like you need to go to him to receive anything other than money. If you need to steal a car, I'll help you. If you have other desires, then I can help you with those too. I don't want him laying a finger on you." I was surprised at my voice. Never would I ever thought I would be so forward with my demands.
He raised a curious brow. "What do you mean by other desires?"
I planted a quick peck on his lips and stared into his icy blue eyes. My fingers interlocked with his and I tugged him into the direction of my bedroom. "How about I show you, instead?"

A/N: So... There is a naughty scene for this chapter, because I couldn't resist and I think it'll be interesting to read it in Scar's POV. As always, it will be in my book titled Other Stuff, and Wattpad has forced it to private so you'll need to be a follower to read the chapter. Because I'm not good at responding to every DM I get, then I'll leave the link (if you're experiencing problems) on my profile in the about me section.
So, yeah... What did you think of this chapter? I think it's probably my favorite chapter because Scar whipped out the piano and who doesn't love a boy who plays piano?
If you loved this chapter like I did, then don't forget to leave a comment and vote! Because that stuff gets me excited and I sit behind my phone just reading all the comments and smiling like a little girl.
Until next time my lovely lovely readers,
