《Another Time, Another Universe》Solving the Mystery

"...She told me that I got to this 'animate object dimension' by choosing to come here through this process of death and rebirthing, which apparently happens to every living thing in existence, and that if I want to find out why I came here, I have to find someone that triggers a memory that reveals my past self's motives. Golf Ball also said that since I'd have most likely killed myself because of all the emotional trauma that the other memories suggested was constantly going on in my past life, that someone would have to be especially vicious and uncaring in order to remind me of such a harsh memory, according to her. Is there anyone like that here in Goiky?"

"There are a few of them, that's for sure. The biggest problem, though, is that they're the only other objects we have left to visit, with the exception of Firey. I didn't include him, because even though he's usually pretty cool, he hates me more than anyone else, 'cause, you know... but that's another story for tomorrow, I guess. Now I guess we should be getting to sleep now, 'cause it's gotten really late. Good night!"

"Good night, Leafy."

It's now morning, and Leafy and I awake from our sleeping spots on the ground and sit up to face one another.

"Good morning, Yogurt Cup. I didn't get too much sleep last night..."

"Well, we did go to bed sometime in the middle of the night. I got a great night's sleep, though," I boastfully proclaim, playfully teasing her.

"Lucky!", Leafy exclaims, playfully nudging my side. I chuckle lightly, enjoying our time together. Leafy looks away bashfully with a smile of endearment. I just can't tell very well, but it feels a little like Leafy is trying to hide something from me. However, I mentally shrug it off and start to talk again.

"So, who do we have left to visit?"

"6 more objects, I believe. In addition to them, there's also this weird "man" thing that came late into the show named David, but he ran away after the show ended and no one knows or cares where he is because nobody liked him, anyway, so we won't be paying him a visit. Same goes for Woody, because he's just a scaredy-cat who can't speak properly and only makes sounds, but I personally like him. But anyways, we decided to save Flower for first thing in the morning, so she'll be our next destination. Besides her, there's Firey, who we'll get to last, but there's... the cool kids."

Wondering what's with Leafy's hesitation, I'm curious to find out.

"Why were you so hesitant to say 'the cool kids'? Is something bad about them? Who are they, anyway?"

"Blocky, Eraser, Pen and Snowball. They're a bunch of bullies who think it's funny to murder other objects. I'm surprised they didn't devise another evil plan after Flower destroyed the recovery centers. Blocky actually used to be my friend, but just like everyone else, he hates me now. He also had this sick show called 'Blocky's Funny Doings International', which is where he creates these elaborate pranks with recovery centers in order to trap the victims in an infinite death loop, but thanks to what Flower did, those "pranks" couldn't work anymore and the show went defunct. Eraser is just apathetic to everything and thinks he's too 'cool' for everyone else; not much else I can say about him. Pen is actually the only one of the cool kids who isn't necessarily mean or murders other objects, but his friends are a influence on him, and I really don't like him because he's become so rude thanks of them! He even had the nerve to call me his 'servant' in this taco-making challenge we had as the 15th challenge of BFDI. And Snowball is the worst; he's extremely mean and aggressive, and has no respect for . He's also really arrogant and thinks of everyone as lesser than him like Flower does, but he's also really dumb, and Golf Ball insulted him about it on the first day of BFDI. She ended up getting thrown off a cliff, but if you ask me, she was telling the truth. Now, he and Golf Ball hate each other. So, it's a small wonder why I'm really not anticipating going to see them. I personally don't think you would like them at all, either, but we unfortunately have no choice."

Even though the cool kids sound like a nightmare, I don't let this get me down and still keep my head up; I'd seen mean objects in the couple of days before, and I'm not looking forward to giving up now.

"As crazy as it might sound, I have a good feeling about the 'cool kids', Leafy. Sometimes, life gives you the exact opposite of what you expect, and who knows?; maybe that'll be the case this time. From the first object I met, I've made some enemies, and even if I get 4 more after this, I still have all the friends I made, and best of all, I have you."

Leafy's whole face turns a lavish shade of red, flattered by my words.

"You're right. You're my best friend, along with Pin and Coiny, but you're the only object who truly cares about me now. If you never came along, I'd probably have committed suicide the day after BFDI ended for all I know, because it's not like I'd have had anything left to live for. I just don't know how to thank you for everything you've done for me."

"Firstly, Leafy, don't say that; you have lots left to live for, even if it doesn't seem like it. It's nothing, really. I'm just glad to have a real friend... unlike that Samantha girl I saw in that vision..." I lightheartedly reply, though my voice grows dark and my expression twists into a grimace at the mention of the wretched girl's name. Leafy briefly gives me a worried look at the mention of the latter part of my sentence.

At least I never have to deal with her again.

For her breakfast, Leafy eats some yoyleberries from her personal bush by her sleeping spot, and a few minutes later we set off to find Flower.

As we walk aimlessly around the bright green fields of Goiky, I decide to talk to Leafy about Flower to get to know more about her, as I see her to be quite an interesting case.

"From the way you described her yesterday, Flower seems pretty horrible, and I bet everyone hated her. What sort of things did she do in BFDI?"

"A lot of things, really. Always talking bad about other objects and calling them names, making everyone feel like they're garbage. Her sense of self-entitlement is off the CHARTS! Worst of all, she thinks she can do whatever she wants, and get away with it, like you saw yesterday with her and Needle arguing about her forbidden name. She's such a , and nobody wants anything to do with her," Leafy explains, counting Flower's flaws off her hand.

"Well, knowing that, now I'm anticipating this visit even less. Wasn't Flower the object that you told me destroyed all the recovery centers on the last day of BFDI?"

"Yep. Now that all the recovery centers are gone, if anyone dies, they're never coming back."

"That's horrible! How could someone ever live with knowing that they endangered the lives of so many objects? You guys probably died every day in BFDI."

"Yeah, dying was pretty common during the show. Some challenges were really dangerous."

"I couldn't imagine dying so often, let alone at ALL, especially for a mere island as the grand prize, but now that I'm an object just like everyone else, it's probably going to happen a lot. And yet, I was apparently so desperate to die just once in my 'past life'; anything just to escape the constant torture and misery. It's funny how life works, huh?"

"Um, sure...", Leafy hesitantly replies, probably feeling uncomfortable.

"Hey, I think I see Flower over there. Let's go!", she informs and we set off in Flower's direction.

~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~

"Leafy?! What do you want, and who's your weirdo stranger friend?", Flower rudely snaps.

This is the second time I've been called that, with Ice Cube being the first to make that remark. I'm already not taking Flower's attitude very kindly...

"We've already gone explaining this so many times to so many other objects, so we wouldn't want to waste your time..."

"I don't CARE, just tell me if it's so 'important'! Why do you have to be so difficult?"

Ignoring the tall object's mean and hypocritical words, Leafy continues with her talk.

"Well, that "weirdo stranger" you referenced just now is Yogurt Cup, a new object that came to Goiky here a few days ago. She wants to get to know everyone on the island. I don't know if you'd understand, but she has these memories of this past-"

"Memories, shmemories! I don't care about that! If you were going to waste my time, you shouldn't even have come over here to TALK to me!"

Flower crosses her arms, pouting as she turns her back on us. I'm surprised she didn't walk away on us, too.

It's just about everything I'd expected from Flower. She clearly isn't sociable in the least, and everything else Leafy described her as is absolutely certain. Regardless, I didn't come all this way making friends and enemies all across this island friend of Goiky only to have someone not want to even try to be at ALL amenable, so I make my attempt in trying to get Flower to comply with me.

"Flower, I know you're upset right now, and that you hate Leafy just like everyone else, but she was only trying to be nice and inform you on the topic. If you don't care about it, that's fine, but wouldn't it be better for you to be even just a little nice?"

"First of all, why do I have to listen to you? I don't even you, and I'm perfectly being the way I am, anyway! Second, I don't care if Leafy was trying to be nice! She ruined my ONLY to get on Dream Island because she stole it all for herself! Why can't you understand that?!"

Now already fed up with Flower's bratty behavior, I prepare to go off on her to teach her a lesson.

"While that's true, why does it have to be so difficult for you to get along with other objects? For you to forgive Leafy? It doesn't have to be like this; you can be nice, too! Even if what Leafy did is really that bad, it isn't going to matter in the end, and whether you want to admit it or not, in life will. Just because there's emotional resentment on your part towards Leafy now, doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to fix yourself and eventually just forgive her, which, personally, I think is what's ultimately best for someone like you. Dream Island will eventually be a topic of the past, and everyone will move on, but your unnecessary grudge against Leafy will haunt you from the deepest, corners of your mind for the rest of your life. Now would you really want to be, basically, mentally TORTURING yourself over something that eventually won't even be relevant anymore, even though YOU think it will be? It's just like with the way you treat the other objects, as Leafy told me, because you're belittling them for things that some of which probably aren't even true, and that nobody really cares about anyway, and yet you stress yourself for absolutely reason over that. So, just think about what I said and try to apply it to yourself, because for someone as nasty as you, you seem to need it."

"Well..." Flower defeatedly stutters. She lets out a heavy sigh and walks away in retreat, presumably to think over my words, as I motion to Leafy for us to leave, and we are out and about once again.

~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~

"Well, I guess now's the moment you've been . Going to see the 'cool kids', some of the worst enemies you've ever made. It's OK if you want to sit this one out, you know."

"Well, that's what I was going to do, anyway, but thanks for being considerate, at least. I don't get that kind of respect anymore; only sharp glares and harsh words."

I sigh and, holding her hands, I look into Leafy's eyes with a bright spark of optimism and determination in mine.

"*Sigh*... I know it's tough for you, Leafy, but continue to keep in your heart that I'll always be your best friend. Just like with what I told Flower, there are no absolute "rights" or "wrongs" in life; only consequences, whether for better, worse, both or even neither. Even if it seems like the world is against you, there will be a time one day when everyone forgets about the Dream Island incident, but if you continue to mentally torture yourself and never let go of the past, everyone will continue to remember what you did, and you'll be stuck miserable forever, both with everyone continuing to hate you and with your own self-destructive mental state."

"...Even though you're completely right, it's just that the problem is how I'm supposed to cope with all the hatred I'm receiving. It's just too MUCH for me to ignore!"

"That's why you have to find a way to cope with it. You can't just block yourself from the outside world and expect to live like that for the rest of your life. You have to give yourself a way to 'escape' from the reality of the problem until your situation gets better."

Suddenly, as if having had come to some spectacular realization, Leafy's face suddenly brightens up.

"Hmm... ...you know what? Maybe I will... I'll think it over, and I'll come up with a plan... In fact, you're going to help me, and it'll be great. It'll be just !"

Being quite skeptical of Leafy's soon-to-be 'plan' and what she might drag me into, I feel a tinge of excitement, feeling that she may potentially take me on an awesome adventure, but also a slight sense of dread, feeling that she also may potentially drag me into a highly uncomfortable or even full-on dangerous situation. Leafy then turns away from me, muttering to herself as she then walks off, which feels to me that whatever she's planning is uncomfortably inclined toward the latter.

Regardless, I decide that I'll talk to her about it later, and continue on with my current task: finding the 'cool kids'.

~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~

It's been a few hours, and as the afternoon sun begins to make its descent back down to the horizon, starting to get exhausted from all the aimless walking around I'd been doing. I surely thought that it would've been easy finding the cool kids, and that maybe I would've seen them doing something cruel, dangerous and absurd, like lighting that 'Woody' guy on fire, maybe drowning Firey, or probably electrocuting Teardrop, even.

Anyways, I continue on with my thoughts, looking mindlessly into the distance...

Until I eventually find another object. They appear to be a large, firmly packed ball of snow, and they stand silently in the distance, their back turned to me from where I am. Obviously, this must be Snowball. But he doesn't look nearly as threatening or scary as Leafy described him to be?

I decide to go over and talk to him, and see for myself just how 'right' Leafy really was.

~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~

"...Hello, there... I know you don't know me, but I want to get to know you..."

I speak quietly so as not to startle Snowball, taking into consideration that he has never seen me before. However, he abruptly turns around, still alarmed by my approach anyway.

"Wha-?! Who the hell are you?!!"

"Whoa, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! My name is Yogurt Cup, and I just wanted to talk and get to know you. I'm still pretty new around here, and I haven't met you before..."

"But I'm not interested in that right now, go away!"

"But... Leafy told me you had 3 other friends. Where are they? I haven't seen them before yet..."

At that sentence, however, Snowball's expression shifts from its original tough grimace into a melancholy look, as if to express loneliness or some other dreadful, though he seems to try to hide it from me.

"Huh? What's wrong?" "I-it's , you don't need to know!..."

"Come on, Snowball. You can tell me, I'll be here to listen." "Well, I don't even know anything about you, and we only just met! And how do you know my name?!"

I want to tell Snowball the painfully obvious answer of my being able to tell an object's name from their appearance, as anyone in this universe should be able to do, at least in my opinion, but I decide not to for the sake of a less questionable, more reasonable answer.

"...Leafy told me. She told me the names of you and your friends when she was telling me all about you guys. And, speaking of Leafy telling me information about you, she only said negative things about you... but before you're about to say anything, please don't get mad! That's what Leafy thought about you, but I want to give you a chance and try to find the good in you, Snowball! I still want to try to like you..."

His face lights up in an expression of extreme shock.

"? Nobody's ever told me something like that... not even my friends!"

At that mention, I feel kind of sad. I know Leafy told me that Snowball is 'allegedly' arrogant, brash, and dumb, but even if those are all true, it's kind of disheartening to me that nobody ever truly wanted to give him even a small chance.

" Oh... I actually feel really bad for you... that's actually kind of saddening. I know Leafy said that you're... not the most likable object... but I personally think you still deserve to have at least one chance?"

Snowball lets out a heavy sigh and looks down, looking dejected.
