《I don't love》Part 7

Natasha's POV
We had to rent a car ourselves to get to the HYDRA base which I refused. So we "borrowed" one instead. The base was located cities away and it would probably be a 5 hours drive. Steve offered to drive and I accepted. As long as I could drive the last bit.
"Kinda like old times." I said referring to the borrowing a car thing.
"Not yet." He said smirking. I put my feet on the dash and he smiled.
"Take your feet.." He began but I interrupted.
"Not this time." I said smirking.
He just rolled his eyes and smiled.
We stopped at a little store near the road to buy something to eat. Anything since we we're basically starving. We didn't think about eating before we left. Bad choice. We went into the store and grabbed somethings. I smiled when I saw that the cashier was a young guy. I grabbed my things and went over to him.
"Hey handsome." I said looking deep into his eyes. I made my voice and calming. He blushed.
"Hey." He stuttered.
"I kind of have a problem.. I don't know.." I began, trying to sound worried.
"What is it? I can help." The guys said. I touched his hand, looking down.
"I got no money and I haven't eaten in like.." I started.
"It's fine! It's on the house." The guy said smiling at me.
"Really? That's so sweet of you. Thank you hottie." I said, smirking and lifting an eyebrow.
I took my stuff and walked away from the register. Steve paid for his stuff. The guy still had his eyes on me.
"Have a good day." The guy said as we walked out of the store.
I rolled my eyes and we got into the car.
"That was easy. Let's go." I said, realising Steve didn't start driving.
"That's almost like stealing." Steve said looking at me. I laughed.
"No, it not. This is called, getting things for free and leaving fast." I said smirking.
"When's the last time you actually paid for things in a grocery store?" He said.
"You really think I do this all the time? I just think we need to save some money, in case we would need it." I said.

"Yeah but we could do that in another way. It seems unnecessary to flirt your way through it." He said keeping his eyes on the road.
"I promise you cap, next time I flirt, it'll be with you." I said, smirking.
He just looked at me and smiled a little. He was trying to hide it but it didn't work out that well.
We drove a while before I got bored.
"Let me take the wheel now. You should get some sleep." I said, seeing how tired he was.
"Maybe just for a while. I'll take over again later." He said.
I rolled my eyes at his politeness.
It took 7 minutes before he fell asleep beside me in the car and I decided to make a visit to an old place. He didn't have much of an opinion.
Steve's POV
I was really tired since last night and fell asleep almost instantly in the car. I woke up a while later to find myself alone in the car. I was surprised and looked around. The car was parked outside a big mansion. It looked fancy. Well at least it would have for a few years ago. It looked abounded. I stepped out of the car and went inside the house to look for Natasha. She building had a really high roof and at least three floors. The rooms were enormous and smelled like old books and winter. It was a lot of dust everywhere and it looked like no one had been here for a while.
"Natasha?" I shouted but got no answer.
I went up the stairs and found the second floor as enormous as the first one. There wasn't a lot of stuff in the house. Only some furnitures. I walked into a bedroom with big windows and white curtains. Natasha stood by a table with one of the drawers open. She looked through some papers and books. It looked like she searched for something.
"Natasha?" I said as I stepped into the room. She turned around.
"Oh, good sleep? Didn't think you would wake up in a few hours." She said, focusing in the papers.
"What is this place?" I asked.

"It's fine, I lived her a few years ago."
"I thought you said you only were on a mission here?" I asked confused.
"Yes for like three years." She said keeping looking through the papers.
I looked around the room and found a picture on the nightstand. I was shocked to see who it was. It was a picture of Natasha and Bucky. Natasha kissed his cheek and he smiled bright.
"Nat..?" I trembled. "What's this?"
"What?" She said, a little bothered by my questions.
"This." I said a little louder, making her turn around. Her eyes opened as much as they could as fast as she saw me holding the picture.
"Um.." She started.
"You knew Bucky?!" I said, a little angry. Why wouldn't she tell me this?
She didn't answer.
"Natasha? Tell me how did you know him?" I said again, more angry since she kept ignoring my question.
"We were partners for a while. When he worked for KGB. We got the same mission. Very similar to this one actually, except we weren't here to blow up HYDRA business." She said, trying to make it sound normal.
"Why didn't you tell me? When did he work for KGB?" I asked again, wanting to know the entire story.
"Few years ago. Seven maybe. And I didn't think it would matter. It's not like we saved the world on these missions." She said.
"Missions? So you were on more together?" I said, not understanding what she tried to hide.
"Yes." She said, looking at the picture.
"What are you trying to hide Natasha?"
"Don't make such a big deal out of this, but we were kind of a couple for a time." She said, still looking at the picture.
"You're in love with him?" I asked and she looked me in the eyes right away.
"No, I'm not. And I don't know if I've ever been." She said, her eyes not leaving mine.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"During that time of my life, I was, well not who I am today. I don't remember everything. My head wasn't clear. Somethings are black." She said, sounding hurt.
"But you most have loved him if you were together?" I said. Trying to sound less angry. It didn't work out.
"I don't know. Just stop it!" She said, angrily.
"I can't stop Natasha! You knew Bucky this entire time and you didn't tell me! You've even dated!" I said hurt by the fact she didn't even mention it.
"Dated?!" She said. "If a date is comforting each other after 10 hours of torture than never take me to one."
I went quite. I didn't know what to say. My best friend and Natasha. It's just, no.
"You have to understand. I only had him. But that doesn't mean I loved him. And I didn't tell you because it wouldn't help. You would just realise that James.. Um.. Bucky.. went trough even more bad things. I didn't want to give you that pain. You really don't want to know about it. " She said, looking down.
We both stood quiet for a while.
"Someday, I do wanna know. But not until you're ready to tell me." I said, looking at Natasha. She laughed a sad laugh.
"Yeah, too bad you won't be around when that happens." She said starting to go back to her papers again.
"What does that mean?" I said.
"You'll leave. Everyone does. They never think they will but they all do. Even Bucky." She said, trying to focus on the stuff around her.
"Natasha, look at me." I said. She didn't. "Please look at me."
Her eyes met mine.
"I won't ever leave you. I promise."
"You see, I really want to believe you. But you're like the 10th person that has told me that." She said, looking away.
"Yeah well, the difference with me is that I'm more afraid you'll leave me." I said. She looked in my eyes and smirked.
"We're not a thing Rogers. Calm yourself."
"Not yet." I said. She raised an eyebrow and smirked again.
