《Love is Strange.》Love is strange part 6

Luckily today was Saturday, so Jonathan didn't need to go to school. The weekend were always nice. He could sleep in, hang out with Will (Joyce was usually working during the weekends), sometimes he himself would go to work, but today was a special day. Tonight was the night that he was going on a date with Nancy. At least he thought it was a date. What was the difference really?
Will asked if Jonathan wanted to play a game on the Atari, and of course he said yes. While they were playing, Will suddenly asked: "Are you going on a date with Nancy?"
"Yeah. I think I am" Jonathan said, smiling.
"You think? You have to know if you're going on a date with her! Does she like you?"
"Depends on what you mean. I think she likes me as a friend. I mean, if she didn't, why would she waste her time on me?"
"Do you like her as a friend? Or something more"
Jonathan said: "I don't like her, Will. I love her"
Jonathan was getting ready to go out. He put on his best shirt, one that he hoped Nancy would like. His own words were still churning in his head. I love her. Did he? The truth? Yes. I did. Very much. He supposed he had loved her since last year. He had never been in love before, not like this. Just the thought of her hurt his heart, but in a nice way, if that made sense.
Nancy didn't know what to wear. She tried shirt after shirt, even some dresses, but she figured it would be too cold outside, it was winter after all. She finally settled for a white blouse and black pants. Would Jonathan like her outfit? She sure hoped.

"Nancy? Jonathan is here" her mother called from downstairs.
This was it. This was the big moment. She took one last good look in the mirror, checking that her make up was ok.
"Nancy?"
"I'll be right there!" Nancy called.
Jonathan couldn't believe his own eyes. Nancy, as she walked down those stairs, looked more beautiful than ever. How was it that he was so lucky, that a girl this lovely and beautiful would go out with him? It was hard to believe, and yet, here they were. Together.
"Have fun" Mrs. Wheeler said and kissed Nancy on the cheek. Nancy had once kissed Jonathan on the cheek. He couldn't help but hope that she would do that again some time. For now, just being close to her was more than enough.
"Hi" Nancy said and smiled that sweet smiled at hers that could stop wars.
"Hi. Are you ok?" Jonathan asked.
"I'm great! Shall we go?"
They walked to Jonathan's car. Jonathan opened the door for Nancy.
"So, what do you want to watch all the right moves?" Nancy asked.
"Sounds good, I haven't watched it yet." Jonathan said.
Nancy just smiled.
"Nancy?"
"Jonathan?"
"You look beautiful" Jonathan said, voice low, her almost hoped she didn't hear him. But she did.
"Thank you. You look great yourself" Nancy said and laughed.
Oh, God, Jonathan had so many butterflies in his stomach, he wondered if Nancy had them too.
The reached the theatre. Jonathan looked at Nancy after they'd parked. They just sat there for a moment, looking at each other.
"Thanks for taking me" Nancy whispered.
"Thanks for coming with me" Jonathan whispered back.
Jonathan paid for Nancy's ticket and got her popcorn and soda.
"Do you pay for all your dates?" Nancy teased.

"Just the pretty ones" Jonathan replied.
That made Nancy laugh.
"Really?"
"No. I've never been on a date before, to be honest. So I'm sorry, but I have no idea what I'm doing"
"You're doing great" Nancy said.
When the lights were out and the movie was starting, Jonathan's thoughts had room to race around again. So, they WERE on a date, Nancy had said so herself. The movie was pretty decent, though Jonathan didn't pay much attention to the plot. His thoughts were elsewhere. Doing the whole time, he was thinking if he should take Nancy's hand. He didn't really dare. Suddenly, he felt Nancy's warm fingers curl into his. They sat like that during the rest of the movie, just holding hands. For a time, everything was good. All the shit that had happened in Jonathan's life didn't exist. He was happy. Very happy.
After the movie, they drove home in silence. Nancy had had a great time, and she had a feeling Jonathan had too, cause she noticed that, like herself, he couldn't keep the giddy grin of his face the entire ride home.
When they reached Nancy's house neither of them wanted to get out of the car. Nancy and Jonathan just sat in silence.
"I had a wonderful time. Thank you so much" Nancy said.
"Me too." Jonathan whispered.
They stepped out of the car, and Jonathan followed Nancy to the front door.
"I hope maybe we can do this again, if you want" Jonathan said.
"Yeah. Totally"
And then Jonathan did the thing that was on his mind; he kissed Nancy on the cheek, cause he didn't dare kiss her on the mouth.
"Goodnight Jonathan. I'll see you soon"
It was like the world had stopped spinning.

Fragments from the Wildlands
“Your first death is always the hardest.” Miguela was the third-born child of a well-off merchant family and knew from around the time she could speak that her life’s path was already decided. She was to become an Orator, as was Xandran tradition. However, Miguela had an affinity with the magikal arts and somehow found herself studying at the Academy. She did just enough to keep up with her studies but never found the motivation to apply herself and “reach her potential,” as her instructors often said. It was not that Miguela was uninterested in the arts. Rather, she knew her time at the Academy ultimately did not matter. Whenever Miguela returned home, she would become an Orator, and that would be that. Or so she believed until, one day, an opportunity appeared that would change her life. Miguela was offered the chance to join a research team tasked with a mission of the utmost importance to the future of the Five Kingdoms. She could not turn down the prospect of regaining control of her life and finally finding a purpose for herself. Of course, Miguela might soon discover that offers that appear too good to be true are usually fraught with lies. Welcome to Five Kingdoms of Cordizal! Question: What is the Five Kingdoms of Cordizal? I often get asked this type of question about my stories by friends, bloggers, and potential readers. The Five Kingdoms of Cordizal is a high-fantasy epic universe that is the setting for most of my stories. The foundation of the universe is its multicultural, multiracial setting with several sentient races attempting to carve their legacy and survive. The world is fully fleshed out and vibrant with a rich and mysterious history not based on Tolkien mythology. This brings me to magic. To me, magic is an essential part of the fantasy genre, so, of course, there is magic in the Five Kingdoms universe. However, one critical part of the Five Kingdoms universe is that magic is an abundant commodity that is a part of everyday life and not some plot device used to drive the story. In short, the Five Kingdoms universe is the setting of epic fantasy stories with deep characters and world-building. I try to tell as many different types of stories as possible in the universe, and hopefully, you can find something for you in it.

This is a writing exercise so chapters are mostly first drafts, otherwise I'd end up rewriting each chapter for a month or more with no real changes. My goals are a steady output by not using perfectionism as a procrastination method. I've already got laziness and additions to reading/games, I don't need a 3rd reason to procrastinate.][Disclaimer 2: The main character is a more normalized version of me, with 170% less laziness installed, and a few buffs like greater courage. Other things like having a job are partially similar. No other characters are based on real people because most people I know are either too normal to be useful or too fucked in the head to be believable.]
