《TNS Piper's Problems》Chapter 17: Memories

Nobody's POV:
The team were desperate to help get Piper's memory back, so they all stayed at the hospital with her, for the rest of the day.
The next day was Saturday and everyone came to the hospital bright and early with different items to help jog her memory.
"Hey Piper, do you remember this?" Finn asked as he began to do big fish little fish, cardboard box, as Piper laughed. "Teach me how to do that!" She exclaimed happily.
It hurt Finn that Piper didn't remember big fish, little fish but he was ecstatic that she wanted to learn it again. After a while, she finally got the hang of it, and couldn't stop laughing as she did it.
"Ooh! My turn!" Ozzy cried out, as he pulled out a disc and two controllers. "Ugh, don't tell me." Kenzie groaned as Ozzy, Finn, Henry and Kingston nodded their heads eagerly. "Yup, legions of lasers! You're going to love this Piper." He replied, as he set the game up on the tv, with help from the nurse.
Piper slowly got the hang of how to play the game but she was pretty bad at it. "Piper, just click this button and hide in the trashcan, then-" Henry went on, teaching Piper how to beat the level.
"Wow, I did it! Thanks, Hen!" Piper exclaimed as everyone looked at her in shock, especially Henry who was smiling widely. "Piper, you just called me by my nickname. Do you maybe remember me now?" Henry asked, hopefully.
"You told me your name, silly!" She answered, laughing before going back to the game. "No, none of us told her our names apart from James." Kingston whispered as Piper obliviously carried on playing her game. "Just keep going, it seems to be working." James said to them.
Richelle glanced at Piper, who was cheering as she got eaten by the monster in the game. It made Richelle laugh, that Piper didn't know that she just lost the entire level.
Richelle wondered back to the time that she first met Piper and all the memories that the two had made together. It saddened her to think that her best friend would never remember her again.

Finn gazed at Piper who was now making friendship bracelets with the rest of the team. He was crushed that Piper didn't remember him, considering how long it took for her to finally get used to him being around.
They had gotten really close and although there was nothing romantic between him and Piper, he still care a lot about her.
He thought about all the moments and memories he had with her and all the times they had laughed together, all the movies they had watched together and all the Hotel Dystopia marathons they had with each other. It hurt to know that she wouldn't remember those.

Amy sighed sadly as she looked at her best friend who was talking to the kind nurse.
Amy was ecstatic that her best friend was alive and well, especially after that moment when they almost lost her for good, but she really didn't want Piper to forget about her.
She didn't know what she would do without her best friend by her side; after everything they had been through, Amy did not want to lose the rock solid relationship that she had with Piper.
She looked off into the distance, with a smile on her face, as she thought of all the memories, arguments, laughter and Pamy dates that the pair had.

James ran his hand through his hair as he leaned back in his seat, watching his baby sister talk to all the people that she couldn't remember. He still had hope and faith that one day, one day soon, she would finally remember all of them.
The look of confusion on Piper's face when she first woke up was enough to break his heart but the fact that she couldn't remember Riley or Amy or Jacquie or Noah or Henry or even Finn, was like being stabbed in the chest. She couldn't remember a thing and it killed him to think that she could spend eternity without remembering any of them.
James rubbed his eyes to get rid of the tiredness that he could feel seeping in, as he remembered all of the things that he had been through with his sister. All of the sad, angry and happy moments he shared with his baby sister.

Piper's POV:
Truthfully, I don't know why I called that boy, 'Hen', it just came to me and I assumed that the boy must've told me his name. I still don't remember any of them; they're all just strangers to me, but they're fun strangers.
I stared at every single person in the room, apart from nurse Josephine, and tried to see if I remembered them.
Nope, they were just random people in my hospital room. However, as I looked at them, a strange sense of familiarity tugged at my heart but I wasn't sure why.
I can't remember anything from before I woke up, which is really annoying because I want to know why all these people seem to already know me.
They also keep calling me Piper; it's a really pretty name, but I don't think it's mine.
As I looked at the strangers around me, I caught a certain red head staring straight back at me with soft, hopeful eyes.
"Pipes, do you remember anything about me? Anything at all?" She asked me gently, sitting next to me on my bed, as I furrowed my eyebrows, trying to force my brain to remember something about her.
I kept my expression like that before a sharp pain shot through my skull as I held my head and winced. "Wait, no. I'm sorry, don't force yourself to remember anything, I was just wondering." The red haired lady said, apologetically, as we smiled sadly at each other.
"Okay hun, it's time for a little check up." Nurse Josephine said with a smile as she came back into my room with a few books.
"This is to see how much you remember and exactly what type of memories you've lost. Do you want these people to still be in here with you?" She explained before asking as I glanced at all of them, who were looking back at me with hope, so I let them stay, much to their delight.
"Great! So let's get started." Josephine said as she pulled out a book and set it on her lap. "Okay, so first things first, who is Piper?" She asked, as I sat there confused for a moment before realising.
"Oh, I know! It's me! I think. That's what everyone's been calling me." I replied as she nodded and made notes.
"Okay, can you identify these?" She asked, pointing to the now open book on her lap. Those lines on the page looked so familiar, I could almost put my finger on it as I gasped in realisation. "Oh, oh! Those are numbers!" I said, proud of myself as I listed all the random numbers on the page.
Nurse Josephine asked me some more questions and before I knew it, it was time for the strangers to leave, except from one guy and a girl. That guy was there when I first woke up and he told me that his name is James.
The name doesn't ring any bells but it does give me a sense of safety and hope- I don't really know why. I don't expect to get my memory back because we've tried all day and I just learnt knew things, I didn't remember a thing.
Josephine told me that some people have gotten their memories back in hours or even minutes but I haven't. I wonder what I'll do when I have to leave the hospital; maybe I can stay with the man that said he was my father, he seemed lovely!
"James?" I called out to the guy next to me, as he hummed in response. "Are you guys also my friends?" I asked curiously, as the boy and girl both smiled. "Yeah, we're technically also your friends but I'm your brother and Riley's like your sister." James explained as I nodded slowly.
"Do you think I'll ever get my memory back?" I asked them quietly. "Of course, but you just have to take it easy." The girl, I think who's called Riley, responded.
I smiled and nodded before heading to sleep, not knowing what I would experience in the middle of the night.
