《Follow the Plot》Chapter 25

Estorea stared up at the two-story red brick building. There was a huge wooden sign with the words - 'Adventurer's Guild' in gold engraved onto it.
"Welcome to the Adventurer's Guild!" Aelia introduced with a wide smile on her face. An aura of happiness surrounded the air around her as she did a dramatic gesture.
It was obvious she seemed very joyful here.
"Aelia." A calm light-toned feminine voice called out to her.
Estorea turned around to see two girls.
Both had pale-white skin, waist length haired and was dressed in similar clothing in opposing colours wearing black getas.
The girl on the left had styled silky white long hair, a kitsune mask covering her face with a heavy-looking kimono with black and grey flowers embroidered on. A golden ribbon was attached to her chest, standing out from the palette of black and white.
The girl on the right had the same exact hairstyle as the girl on the left, her hair being a midnight raven black and a black kitsune mask covering the upper part of her face, her thin crimson lips sticking out. Her outfit was similar with it only being black in colour and a red ribbon falling out. In her hands held a black kiseru, smoke rising from the golden tip.
Himani - on the left
Yumino - on the right
"Oh! Hello Yumino and Himani! You two look as beautiful and flawless as ever!" Aelia smiled as she complimented them.
The girls made their way over to them, elegance emitting in their every step.
"I see you look well, Aelia." The white girl commented, a light smile on her face.
"Yep! How about you Himani? Are you doing okay? I can't really tell with that mask on your face."
A light small laugh escaped her lips, "That is indeed so."
Aelia turned to look at the black haired girl this time, which Estorea thought to be Yumino. "How about you?"
Her beautiful crimson lips curled up into an arc, "Of course I'm doing well. Now, if I may so ask... Who's that girl behind you? Is she going to become an adventurer?"

Aelia nodded, "Yep! This is-"
"My name is Estrey. It's a pleasure to meet you." Estorea hastily intervened. How careless of her, it seems she had somehow forgotten to inform Aelia that she would be going under another alias.
Thankfully, Aelia quickly got the gist and nodded. "Yup! She's Estrey, she wanted to become an adventurer because she wants to travel the neighbouring kingdom."
"I see, that is reasonable." Yumino said.
"Well, I have to go help Estrey! I will see you guys later!" With that, Aelia grabbed onto my wrist and dragged me away into the Adventurer's Guild.
...
The moment Estorea entered, her nose wrinkled. It smelled of sweat, blood and beer. She wanted to choke, she used her hand to cover her nose, trying to not breathe in the foul air.
Aelia glanced at Estorea worriedly, knowing the smell would affect her. "Do you want to wait outside, young miss?" She whispered.
Estorea shook her head, "No, it's quite alright. I will eventually get used to the smell..." She gave a reassuring look to Aelia, "Don't worry about me, it's just some foul smell. Let's continue on, lead the way."
Aelia yielded to her Mistress' orders and brought her over to the receptionist counter.
Estore expected to see those big boobs receptionists like it was in those manga, however she didn't expect a young girl to be at the counter.
Estorea tilt her head, observing the receptionist before her.
She had midnight black hair containing red highlights, tied up into two buns resting on her hand, she was wearing a black tang suit with red bottoms and a flowery skirt.
A black hoop earring hung from her right ear whilst her left ear had an earring with a black pearl and a red ribbon below it.
Her eyes were of a beautiful amethyst colour with a little sparkle of pink.
Light blush tainted her fair skin as she showed us a gentle smile. "Welcome..." Her soft voice echoed.
Aelia widened her eyes, "Vanity? What are you doing behind the counter?"
"Ah, I'm taking the receptionist role temporarily as the current one is busy with guild matters."

"Oh, I see, I see..." Aelia trailed off.
"It is a nice day, Aelia... How may I assist you today?" She asked.
Aelia remembered the main purpose why she was here and gestured towards Estorea, "I would like to register my friend to the Guild! Is that okay?"
Vanity nodded, she then bent down slightly and heard the sound of paper shuffling.
She stood upright and slid over a piece of paper to Estorea and a feather pen.
Estorea read the paper, it seemed like it needed her personal information.
She reread it over a few times before she filled it up with fake information and handed it back to Vanity.
In return, she got a bronze badge.
"I'm sure you already know how the rankings are here considering the fact that Aelia is your friend. But I shall explain it to you according to the guild's laws to newbies."
She took an empty piece of paper and started writing.
"As you know... There are 6 ranks in the Guild. It's very simple, starting from the lowest, we start with E, then D, then C and so on. The first rank is the S-Category. And there are very few in the S-ranks. Let me just write down the order... E... D... C... B... A... and S! The way to rise in ranks is by completing quests for points!"
"You are not allowed to do quests beyond your rank. To rise up from E to D, you require a 100 points which is 50 E quests. From D to C, it is 1000 points, you will need to do 100 D quests. C to B is 10,000 and you need to do 10,000 C quests. B to A, you will need to do a 100,000 B quests. And finally, for A, you need to do 1,000,000 A quests. It may seem a lot, but it is to make sure our adventurers are prepared and experienced."
She finishes writing and puts down the feather pen. "Alright here, take a good look!"
She handed me the piece of paper, "I start at E rank, correct?"
Vanity nodded, "Yes. There should be some E ranked quests on the board."
She pointed to a big wooden board over, there was a ton of papers nailed to it and several adventurers surrounded it, looking for a suitable quest that they could take.
Estorea turned around and smiled gratefully. "Thank you for your help. Is there anything else I need to know?"
"Oh yea! The rules! There are a total of 5 rules in the guild."
She lifted up a finger, "Number 1, in order to show that you yourself have finished a request, please show evidence that points to you completing it."
Another finger was lifted up, "Second, fighting in the guild is strictly prohibited! You will get fined as the first warning, banned from here for a few weeks as the second and your Adventurer's license will be revoked if it happens for the third time."
"Third, please do not interfere with someone else's request unless the adventurer taking the quest specifically requests or they are in grave danger. If one shall be caught for doing so, they will be fined."
"Fourth, hurting another adventurer is strictly banned! However, if you see an adventurer doing a misdeed, use your license card to record the footage of them misbehaving and come to us and we shall resolve the issue."
"Fifth, no taking more than 3 quests at once. More than that is forbidden!"
Estorea took that in mind and thanked Vanity for the information and help.
"It's not a problem. Stay safe!"
Estorea walked over to the board with Aelia. She looked up and scanned the requests.
She then spotted one that required herb-picking in the faerie forest. A well-known forest where fairies live. However, they rarely let themselves be seen and it would be very lucky of someone spotting one.
Estorea stood on her tiptoes and ripped the piece of paper off the board and nodded at Aelia.
They went outside the guild and quickly set for their journey to complete the quests.

Mark of the Lash
Born from a precarious relationship between a Drow and his prize, Serena Lash struggles to find her place, and herself, as she fights to persevere through the hardships life throws her way. A story born from a D&D game I am currently a part of. The narrative will follow the events of the campaign as closely as possible, with some events having been tweaked to better fit into a written story. A slow burn, the narrative does skip around a bit due to the nature of the campaign, considering that not everything in the game needs to be written about. This will begin to peter out the further the story progresses, but for the first parts, expect a bit of skipping!
