the world stops for a while

as it completes

another round

of survival.

but for a body without a soul;

it is a shame.

shame that it has failed

to stop the voices in it's head.

a new year is nothing

but another round of

empty promises and shameless

hearts.

i am ashamed to go through

another round of survival in a

world where

kids believe love isn't real

and adults believe love is everything.

some children have to

wake up everyday wondering,

hoping their parents

will return.

that's all it takes to survive-

hope.

hope that the words you hear

aren't concocted and the sights you

see aren't illusions.

i hope that

children don't have to ask

themselves if they are a mistake,

i hope that

the world doesn't label a soul

as mentally ill because

they believe in eternal happiness.

i hope that

teenagers don't have to

pretend to like things to prove

themselves worthy.

i hope that

women don't have to cover up

and men don't have to hide

what they feel.

but it's an illusion too.

the world will never accept

different,

it will create itself and destroy

it in the process.
