Veronica wasn't actually sure what time Rosalie and Alice were supposed to arrive on Sunday for their sleepover. She hadn't thought to ask, and it wasn't like she had parents or siblings living in the house to give them a forewarning. Veronica also wasn't quite sure what they would do. She had seen them in movies, and Jessica had one planned in a few weeks, but she figured that there wouldn't be any slow-motion pillow fights and her relationship with her brothers was a bit too rocky at the moment to try prank calls.

Rosalie and Alice ended up arriving around 3 that afternoon just as Veronica had finished up her math homework. She barely had the door unlocked before Alice was bounding inside, her pale arms full of all kinds of things. Rosalie followed at a normal speed, greeting Veronica with an easy smile.

Alice sat everything on the kitchen counter before rushing up to Veronica and gently grabbed her wrist, excitement coming out of every non-existent pore. "You have to tell us absolutely everything about your date."

"Alice, calm down," Rosalie said, amused by her enthusiasm. "We literally just got here."

"Yeah, but Emmett didn't want to tell us anything and Edward won't spill any juicy details," Alice said, sighing dramatically. "If I could see your future, I could've seen it all."

"And what if there are no juicy details?" Veronica asked, raising an eyebrow in defense.

Rosalie snickered but covered her mouth to hide the smirk. "The lip gloss on his neck leaves little to imagine."

Veronica blushed but made no comment. Instead she moved to the counter to see what all Alice had brought. There were various bags and she could see things like nail polish and makeup sticking out. "So, what's on the agenda for my first sleepover?"

"Well, we have to do all the iconic things — nails, hair, makeovers. Then a movie and most important, girl talk."

"I'm not good at girl talk," Veronica automatically replied.

"We can imagine," Rosalie said with a smile. "You probably didn't have much of it growing up on the road with two boys and killing monsters. We'll ease you into it."

"There's also some chicken and rice for you to heat up later for dinner."

"As always, tell Esme she's a saint," she said, grinning at the thought of food.

"Actually, it was Nicholas," Rosalie said, grinning. "I don't know if it's particularly good, but he claims it was the only thing he ever learned to cook as a human."

"Well, I welcome all food, no matter the chef. I appreciate it. So, what's first on the sleepover agenda?"

Alice smiled so big that Veronica thought she could almost see her back teeth. The small vampire grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the bedroom with Rosalie grabbed the bags and followed. "Well, first we have to put on our pajamas and then I thought we could put on a movie — your choice of course. Then nails and I have to see your closet and—"

Veronica smiled fondly as Alice planned out the next few hours for them. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that this would be the best first sleepover a girl had ever had, and she appreciated Alice and Rosalie hanging out with her.

The movie of choice had ended up being Clueless. They all had a love of the classic movie, and Veronica was happy to watch anything with Paul Rudd in it at any time. In fact, her love for the actor was probably the only real reason she approved of Cher ending up with her ex-stepbrother. Who could blame her when he had a face like that?

Once the movie had finished, Veronica was hungry enough to heat up the chicken and rice, which was delicious and had told Rosalie to pass her compliments on to Nicholas. While she ate, Rosalie sat behind her on the bed and started braiding her hair. Alice had begun her trek through Veronica's closet. Occasionally she would squeal or make a sound of disdain depending on if she had found something cute or something that Veronica would go on hunts in. There was probably an infinite amount her brother's flannels stuffed in the back corner for her to sort through.

"Emmett told me that you were the one that found him and took him to Carlisle to turn," Veronica said, not really sure where the conversation might go as she brought it up to Rosalie. "He said he was bleeding the whole way. You must have really good control."

"It was difficult," she admitted, combing her hands through Veronica's hair. "But luckily, I have an a very high tolerance. Carlisle and I are actually the only ones who have never had human blood."

"No way," Veronica mumbled, her mouth full of food. But she was surprised — she hadn't even known that Carlisle had never fed off anyone before. Compared to regular Vampires, Cold Ones were notorious for having an even harder time controlling their bloodlust. Of course, there was nothing any human hunter could do about it.

"Way," Rosalie said, chuckling. "I might've tried it myself, but there was no telling if I could handle it or not and I didn't want to risk it. It was safer to bring him to Carlisle."

Veronica nodded in agreement. She opened her mouth, but Alice had poked her head out of the closet. In her hand, she held a big grey sweatshirt that had several unidentified and permanent stains.

"I don't care if you're a hunter," she said, frowning. "I'm burning this."

"Understandable," Veronica replied, smirking as Alice threw the sweatshirt towards the corner and then returned to the closet. She took a bite of her food before focusing back on Rosalie, who was tying off the first braid. "Do you mind if I ask why you asked Carlisle to turn him?"

Rosalie froze for a moment, but quickly went back to braiding. "Do you want to know how this happened to me?"

Veronica couldn't lie and say that she didn't want to know, but she remembered what Emmett had told her about Carlisle only turning those who were dying. "You don't have to if you don't want to. I know we aren't very close."

Rosalie stayed silent for a few seconds while she tied off the delicate braid she had finished. "That's what sleepovers are for — getting close."

Veronica turned and leaned on her headboard to give Rosalie her full attention. She figured it was a serious subject, so she also put the plate of food on her nightstand.

"It was 1933, I was eighteen, and I was beautiful. My life was perfect. I was so young and in love with the very idea of being in love. Because of that, it didn't matter that I hardly knew Royce King, the most eligible bachelor in town. He was the son of a banker. He started sending me flowers and soon we became engaged."

Despite talking about being engaged to a handsome man, there was no smile on Rosalie's face. And given the fact that she was here — a vampire — told Veronica that it likely wasn't a happy story.

"There was no love. Only a mutual attraction, though I couldn't see it at the time. It was the last night of my life when I was leaving my friend Vera's house and I came upon Royce and some of his friends—"

Veronica couldn't help but tear up as Rosalie continued her story. She reached out and took her cold hands and held them. Veronica felt angry at when Royce and his friends had done to Rosalie, but knew there was nothing she could do to them.

"I did get my revenge on them," Rosalie said, smiling a little and squeezing Veronica's hands. "One by one, but I saved Royce for last. He knew I was coming. He'd locked himself in a room with guards outside, but that couldn't stop me. I wore a wedding dress. I suppose I was a bit theatrical."

Veronica was glad that none of them survived. They didn't deserve to live, and Rosalie's story was a stark reminder that regular humans could be monsters too.

"I hated Carlisle for turning me for the longest time," Rosalie admitted. "I still don't like what I am. But it got better after meeting Nicholas, though we'll always be this, frozen, never moving forward. That's what I miss the most, possibilities, sitting on a front porch somewhere, Nicholas grey haired by my side surrounded by our grandchildren. We'll never have that."

Veronica ran her thumb against Rosalie's knuckles in a comforting manner. "I've always given a lot of thought to what I'll miss out on by being immortal. The only thing any of us can do is make the best of our situations. You've done that. You only drink from animals and you've found someone who loves you."

Veronica supposed that Alice was done digging through her closet, but stayed inside to give them the illusion of privacy during the intimate moment.

Rosalie blinked her eyes which held tears that couldn't be shed. "My closest friend when I was human, Vera, had a little baby boy. I was always so jealous of her for having such a perfect son. He had these beautiful blue eyes and perfect dimples. All I've ever wanted was a baby, and getting to hold Vera's was the closest I'll ever get. When I had come across Emmett after the bear attack, I couldn't help but see that innocent little boy. He had the same blue eyes and dimples. Something inside me had to save him. I thought he'd hate me for making that decision for him — like I did with Carlisle — but we quickly became the best of friends. Emmett kept me held together for a very long time until we had Nicholas."

"I'm glad that you had each other.•

After doing each other's makeup, showing Veronica how to make friendship bracelets, being forced by Alice to take a bunch of photos, and doing some face masks despite the fact that they all had clear skin, the time had come for the dreaded "girl talk."

A pint of strawberry ice cream was in Veronica's hand as she laid on her floor. Alice and Rosalie were watching her from up on the bed. Veronica did her best to retell the date as quickly as possible, but both Vampires kept asking questions and wanting specific details.

"You let him do that arm thing! That's so cute," Alice said, grinning. "You so like him."

"I mean, yeah but that's obvious," Veronica said, shoving ice cream in her mouth.

"Well, not really. You do typically brush him off when he flirts with you," Rosalie pointed out. "None of us were really sure until you said yes. It made for lots of long debates given that Edward can't read your mind and Alice can't see your future. Our family isn't so used to being in the dark."

"Yeah, and Jazz just sits there with a sly smirk on his face and won't tell Emmett how you feel no matter how much he begs," Alice adds, pouting. "So, how do you feel?"

Veronica chewed on her lip. "I mean, yeah, I like Emmett. I guess I just wave off his flirting out of habit. Because of growing up with my brothers and fighting all kinds of monsters, I'm used to not showing when I'm bothered or effected by what someone says. I do like it when he flirts, but it goes against my nature to fawn and fall over a boy. I didn't mean to make it seem like I don't feel anything for him."

"That's understandable," Rosalie said, nodding.

"Is that something he worries about? Me not liking him?"

"Oh, all the time," Rosalie said, chuckling. "Do you like Roni will like this shirt on me? Should I text Veronica? She didn't faint when I put my arm around her — does that mean she doesn't want to go out with me?"

Veronica snorted and set her ice cream on the ground. "He does not say all that stuff."

"You're all he talks about," Alice said matter-of-factly. "Sometimes it's cute but other times it's just annoying. Now that you've been on a date, we'll probably just send him over here when we're tired of him."

"Thanks for the heads up," she replied, smiling. Veronica wouldn't mind Emmett coming around if he wanted to.

"So, you like him," Rosalie stated, leaning her head on her arms. "But how much do you like him? I'm obligated to ask as his best friend."

Veronica took a deep breath before grabbing a pillow and putting it over her face. If she was going to be honest, she wasn't going to chance making eye contact.

"Fine. Okay. I give in. Emmett makes me feel like super happy and when he gives me that stupid smile I feel like my heart is gonna explode. And I like all the cheesy jokes he makes and it's so sweet how he went to Jess and Ang to make sure I would like the date. I really really like him and want to be with him like all the time. If you tell anyone in your family that I got that mushy, I'll smite you."

It was silent for a moment before two squeals sounded. One of them snatched the pillow off of Veronica's face, so she threw her arms up to hide her red cheeks. But it didn't last as Alice pulled her up on the bed and hugged her tightly.

"You two are gonna be so perfect and we're gonna get a new sister!"

"Alice, it's been one date," Veronica said, chuckling. "A bit early to be calling me your sister. Besides, Emmett may decide he doesn't want to even go on a second date

"Please, Em is never gonna let you go," Rosalie said, brushing some of Veronica's hair back that had fallen from her braid. "It may have only been one date, but I'm sure he'd do anything you asked."

"Be that as it may," Veronica mumbled, "I just don't want to get too serious too quick. Just because we're both immortal doesn't mean it's meant to happen. And I've never even been in a real relationship. The closest thing I've ever had was an occasional hookup with an Angel who's not even alive any more. I just want a normal relationship at a normal speed."

"That makes sense. After all, you are here in Forks for a regular human experience. You might want to let Emmett know how you feel," Alice told her. "Relationships between vampires tend to develop a bit quicker than human ones, given that all our natural behaviors are enhance when turned. I'm sure Em will have no problem taking things slow."

"Though I don't see how trying to give him a hickey is taking things slow," Rosalie teased.

"I wasn't trying to give him a hickey!" Veronica inspired, grinning. "You guys can't get those anyway."

"Did he give you one and it just healed really quickly?" Alice asked, pretending to search Veronica's neck.

She playfully pushed her off while laughing. "You know what, I think that's enough talk about last night."

"That means yes," Alice whispered to Rosalie.

When Veronica woke up for school the next day, she slightly regretted having a sleepover on a school night. She hadn't fallen asleep until 3 am because they had stayed up talking all night. But it had been a wonderful first sleepover, and she had really bonded with Alice and Rosalie.

Alice has been the one to wake her up, letting her know that she had laid out an outfit for the day and that Rosalie was in the kitchen making her some breakfast.

Veronica got ready quickly. The outfit that Alice laid out must have come from her house, because Veronica had never seen it. It was a green dress with a nice white cardigan. The brands were designer, something that Veronica had never bought even with the credit card scams her brothers ran. But she looked cute in it and her hair was still in Rosalie's braid from the night before, so she made her way to the kitchen.

Rosalie and Alice were both sitting at the counter, each wearing different clothes. Veronica wondered if they bothered to go back to their house after she had fallen asleep. She didn't question it though as Rosalie handed her a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon.

"How are you all so good at cooking?" she asked, digging into her first breakfast in months that hadn't been a pop-tart or granola bar.

"Well, I was raised to do all the housework when I was human," Rosalie reminded her. "Maybe Esme and I could teach you a few recipes."

"I'd like that. So, what'd you guys do after I fell asleep?"

"Well, I ran back to the house because we forgot clothes. I also grabbed your outfit. Emmett stopped me and asked if you had said anything about him, but don't worry. I kept me lips sealed."

"Thanks. And I love the dress, by the way," Veronica said, gesturing to it. "It matches my favorite green scrunchie perfectly. What about you, Rose?"

"I may have snooped through your bookshelf," she admitted sheepishly. She pulled out a book and Veronica couldn't help but laugh. It was the second book in the series of books based on her family's lives. "I read the first two, but figured I should ask permission before looking at the others."

"It's alright," Veronica said, chuckling. "It's all very true and scarily detailed. But it's the quickest way to answer some of the questions your family has asked. I don't mind if you or any of your family reads them."

"So, when Dean came and got Sam at Stanford, you and your father really had disappeared? Were you taken? Or did he just not want Dean to find you both?"

Veronica playfully shrugged. "Why don't you start a vampire book club and find out. Oh, fair warning though. There's a lot of um, intimate stuff about my brothers. Also, when I show up, I want no judgement. I was quite different before I got here."

"How so?" Alice asked while Rosalie walked over to the book shelf and picked up the third book.

"Dean wasn't completely wrong that day when he said I picked up personality traits from teen movies. I didn't... like who I was becoming as a hunter. I was sort of turning into a mini-Dean that didn't care about the consequences of my actions. Hell, a year ago I might've even attacked you all when I first found out what you are," she admitted, sighing. "I didn't want to be like that anymore, so I changed. I bought the clothes I'd always thought about wearing. I watched countless makeup tutorials on YouTube. I got to Forks and became the popular cheerleader in every teen movie ever. Yeah, it sounds stupid, but I really like how I am now."

Rosalie smiles thoughtfully while Alice hugged Veronica tightly. "We really like how you are now too. And there's nothing stupid about changing yourself for the better."

Veronica appreciated the validation, something she clearly hadn't gotten from her brother in the parking lot that day. Eventually she pulled away from Alice and looked at her empty breakfast plate.

"Well, with this morning and yesterday, I've had enough chick flick moments to last a lifetime. Ready for school?"

The three girls grabbed their bags before heading out to Rosalie's car, who would be driving. Alice told Veronica that Emmett would gladly take her home after school.

"So, you're really not gonna tell me what happens to you and your dad to make you not answer Dean's calls?" Rosalie asked, glancing at Veronica in the backseat before pulling out of the driveway.

"Rose, it'll ruin the first several books if I tell you."

"I don't care about spoilers. Please?"

Veronica dramatically sighed. "Fine."

"Wait, I don't wanna know," Alice said, covering her ears. She also started humming to herself, making Veronica chuckle.
