"Congratulations, Adalet, you made it this far! Are you ready to take a trip to Inner City now?" Andrea inquired.

"I've been meaning to visit the Bazaar," Adalet answered.

"Maybe you'll get to see it soon," she replies, "I'll dispatch you with Amy, I want you both to witness the meaning of "Melting Pot" once you get there."

"Awesome, Adalet!" Amy cheered from beside her, "I'm so psyched I get to hang out with you in Inner City. You'll love it! It's crowdy and colourful, we'll take nice pictures!"

"Isn't it known for its immigrants?" Adalet asks recalling that fact from when she was looking for a place to live.

"Yes," Andrea confirmed before turning to the officer, "you should listen to Capt. Adalet, Amy. Inner City is not just a touristic place. It has always been a beacon of hope for many immigrants throughout the world. Russians, Chinese, Indians, Arabs . . ."

"Just like me!" Adalet cut in.

"Sadly this place is not without tension. The Chinese and the Russians have been stuck in a never-ending struggle for a while," she sighed as a knock sounded on her door, she waved the person in, "which is why I'm sending Hannah with you. She was born and raised in Inner City, so I think it's safer if she shows you the way."

"Hey, guys!" Hannah greeted as she entered the office, "let's hit the road and go to Inner City!"

Later on, in the heart of Inner City . . .

"I'm glad I was asked to show you around Inner City, Adalet. Trust me, this is the most exciting part of Pacific Bay!" Hannah promised her, "some would call it a melting pot, but there's more to it. Inner City is like a tremendous sentient kettle, a boiling laboratory of ideas for the future of Pacific Bay! Of course, it wasn't easy every day, living in these parts. But mostly I have good memories. . ."

As the three women turned down onto main street, Hannah paused her tour and was starting to look like she was going to be sick.

"Uh. . . Adalet. . . There's something over there. . . It looks like. . ." Hannah couldn't finish what she wanted to say, "eww. . . I think I'm gonna be sick. . ."

"Oh no! Adalet," Amy gasped seeing the scene before them, "this looks like a job for us!"

Adalet reached into her case and pulled out some yellow police tape. She handed the roll to the rookie and took the end of the tape from her.

"I agree," Amy says seeing what she was doing, "we'd better close off the perimeter and have a closer look at this!"

Amy and Adalet roped off the area while Hannah volunteered to call this into the station. Once the area was secured the cops looked around for evidence. First, they took down the poor lifeless body of a young Chinese girl who had been strung up on a line of lanterns. While Adalet was up on the latter, she grabbed a red with yellow polka dots scarf that was draped over the cable near the victim's head.

As they placed the body on the wet ground, Adalet looked around the area. Dean and Hunter had managed to find some clues for them. The Irish Greyhound had found a faded flyer under the body and the German Shepherd found some torn pieces of plastic a few feet away.

"That poor Chinese girl was hung upright in the middle of the street!" Amy exclaimed as Roxie pulled up in her van, "do you think it's got anything to do with that community feud Chief Marquez told us about?"

"Ugh," Hannah gags before Adalet could answer, "I can't believe you deal with such things every day of the week, Adalet! I'm sorry, but I'm going back to the station. I'll be better off in my office with my computers."

"I can't blame you for feeling sick," she sympathized, "it's still hard for me as well."

"But right now, we need to get the body to autopsy," Adalet says as Roxie came over to take it away, "you can hitch a ride with Roxie, if you want, Hannah."

"Yeah, mind if I tag along, Rox?" Hannah asks.

"Of course not!" Roxie replied, "I'll be ready to go faster than Frank can drink a bottle of whiskey!"

Adalet laughed as she was taking the flyer from Dean, "it's a good thing I can't challenge him to a drinking contest!"

"No, he's pretty good at them," she remarks lifting her gurney, "see you guys back at the station!"

"Bye Roxie, thanks for the tour Hannah!" she calls as the two women left the scene, "check this out, Amy."

"You already found some clues! Those bits of plastic were right under where the victim was hung," Amy says looking at where Adalet had found them "we should try to patch them up, you're right!"

"As for this flyer, most of its text is faded. . ." Adalet said setting it down on top of a mailbox.

"But I know that if someone can make it reappear, it's you, Adalet!" she grins, "and this scarf has the same pattern as the victim's dress. It must have belonged to her! Nothing escapes your sight, that's just amazing, Adalet!"

She smiled, "don't forget, Amy, we've only just begun our investigation!"

"Haha, right," she giggles, "that's just the beginning, of course. I knew that! We still need to examine it. It looks like something got stuck in the scarf, let's take a closer look at it!"

Adalet picked up the plastic pieces first and glues them back together. It turned out that they made up an ID badge for an herbal shop in Inner City. the victim's face was featured on the badge with the name Ling Zang written beside it and the title shopkeeper under it.

"Perfect, Adalet! This badge you just restored has our victim's photo and name on it. And so her name is Ling Zhang!" Amy beamed, "the badge bears the name of "Yuan's Garden", which seems to be some kind of herbal shop. The victim must have worked there!"

"So we'll go there immediately!" Adalet replied placing the badge aside.

But before they went to the herbal shop, Adalet looked at the scarf first. She looked closely at the red fabric and found some black hairs stuck into the knitted fibres. She pulled out as many as she could and bagged them up to send to the lab.

"Well done, Adalet! You got a hair sample off the victim's scarf!" Amy says taking the bag, "you know, sometimes I worry that this job is too easy for you. But I'd never get as good a partner if you left!"

"Mmh. . . Sure, Adalet. I need to stay focused. I'll get that hair sample to the lab for you, you don't have to worry about a thing!"

The last thing left to do was to dust the flyer. Adalet brushed the faded side of the flyer with some carbon powder and recovered the missing message and the spokeswoman's name.

"Great job, Adalet! You managed to make this flyer you found on the murder scene look like it's brand new! What does it say?" Amy inquired.

"Unite against the Chinese, keep it Russian?" Now that's brutal!" Adalet remarked, "it was issued by Ivana Golovanov, she seems to be some kind of local political figure."

"Finding such an anti-Chinese pamphlet on the crime scene of a Chinese woman's murder doesn't look good," she muses, "let's go talk to this Ivana!"

"Hah! I can see you found one of my flyers, officers. Care to join the fight against the Chinese plague?" the woman from the flyer stood on the other side of the police tape laughing loudly.

"I wouldn't throw around such strong words if I were you, Miss Golovanov.," Adalet glares marching over, "a Chinese woman has just been killed!"

"You mean that girl hung up to a banner like dead meat? Well, now you saw how those Chinese treat each other! Aren't they just feral bullies?" she asked with a sly smile, "they're trying to scare us Russians, hoping we move somewhere else, so they can take our homes. We all know the Chinese want to make our homes their own turf! But I'll do anything to keep this place Russian and I will succeed! No one can stop me, I'm a rocket ship!"

"Well then I'd suggest you blast off and leave this crime scene," Adalet advised the Russian. Ivana gave one last smirk as she turned on her heels and left the scene.

"I... I can't believe Miss Golovanov could say such things about the Chinese, Adalet. We should arrest her for. . . for being hateful?" Amy tried.

"We don't want our suspects to hide anything from us," she replies, "so we ought to let them talk the way they want."

"Hey, that's really clever of you, Adalet!" she beamed.

At Yuan's Garden . . .

"Welcome to Yuan's Garden!" a little old Chinese woman welcomed them inside, "I am Yuan Wong, the owner of this honourable shop! How may I help you?"

"Mrs. Wong," Amy approached the counter, "we're investigating on a young Chinese girl's murder, Ling Zhang. We know she used to work here, which is why Capt. Adalet would like to take a look at your shop."

"Pardon me? Ling's been murdered?" Yuan gasped holding her cane tightly, "this is sad news, indeed. . . Please, feel free to stay as long as you need, Capt. Adalet! I'll be around if you need me."

The old woman ducked into the back of her shop and Adalet and Amy began looking around. The shop had a lot of stuff inside of it but amounts all of the items they managed to find a green Chinese handbag overflowing with stuff.

"Way to go, Adalet! You found a Chinese handbag! This could have belonged to the victim!" Amy says as her partner placed it down on the counter, "I'll let you sift through it, though! You're the one with a keen eye here, you know I could leave out a clue that's right under my nose. . ."

Adalet smiled, "you'll get the hang of it one day, Amy. But we'll have to talk to Yuan about Ling before we leave."

Adalet looked through the bag while Amy went to ask Yuan if they would be able to speak with her. The captain looked through all the stuff inside the handbag and found a legal document belonging to the victim, but there was a large DENIED red stamp on it. As Amy came back to tell her Yuan was free to talk, she saw the paper in Adalet's hands.

"And you were right again, Adalet! This handbag did belong to our victim, you found a legal document with her picture inside!" Amy says as she picked it up to read, "well, this print was given to her by the immigration patrol. Apparently, her visa was rejected and she wasn't allowed to set foot on U.S. soil."

"Well, that's something else! If she dragged the attention of the immigration service to herself, we should try and know more about this," Adalet pondered, "let's send the document to Hannah immediately."

As they put the paper away to bring to the lab, Yuan emerged from the backroom.

"Mrs. Wong, we know Ling used to work in your boutique before she got killed. When was the time you last saw her?" Adalet inquired.

"Well, it was just yesterday! I left her in charge of the shop and went to run my errands! Ling was so fragile and innocent. She did nothing to deserve this!" Yuan cried still in shock, "everything in this place was scaring her. She was just a country girl from a very small village in China, you know."

She nods, "I see, go on."

"I couldn't leave her alone in this crazy neighbourhood, this is why I gave her the job. As Chinese, we have got to watch each other's back. Like many immigrants, she learned that this country is not the Promised Land," she sighed, "especially around here, with the Russians steering trouble! It must be those despicable Russians who killed Ling, who else! They don't know anything honourable, they're just monsters!"

Later in the lab . . .

"Wow guys, I must say you really moved my heart with that body you brought me!" Roxie sighed holding her hand over her heart.

"How so, Roxie?" Adalet inquires.

She laughed, "I'm saying this because the victim's heart was removed. Get it? Heart? Removed? Heart moved?"

"Oh, please Roxie! How dare you make fun of this poor young girl!" Amy asks flabbergasted.

"Sorry, I couldn't resist it. Anyway, the killer used a serrated blade to operate the young lady. A true massacre!" Roxie commented, "but they didn't only butcher her. Weirdly enough, I found an acupuncture needle pinned to the victim's neck!"

"An acupuncture needle? What would that be doing on the victim's body?" Adalet wondered.

"My guess is that the killer used acupuncture to put the victim to sleep!" she bet, "I've read about it in a review. Once the victim was out, the killer could act at their leisure."

"Who would have thought such a monster would master the finest traditional Chinese medicine?" she hummed, "but at least we know that our killer practices acupuncture!"

"I don't want to keep you waiting any longer, Adalet," Yann says as he exited his office with a fresh cup of coffee, "the hair sample you found on the victim's scarf belonged to the victim!"

"Oh, no. . ." Amy sighed, "somehow I hoped it was the killer's hair. It could have helped us catching them."

"Don't worry Amy. You know Adalet never misfires! The hair was impregnated with vodka! The analysis showed the killer violently grabbed the victim by her hair, pulling some out," he explains, "and clearly, the killer had vodka on their hands when they dragged her through the street."

"So the killer has a soft spot for vodka, then?" she pulled out her notepad, "that's good to know, I'll write it down."

"And what about those documents we sent, Hannah?" Adalet asked the techie.

"I'm done analyzing the document you found in the victim's handbag, Adalet. As you already figured out, she was not allowed to enter the country," Hannah reports, "so I've been digging deeper and it turned out Ling had her visa personally rejected by Aicha Ben Malek, from Immigration. But it looks like Ling ignored Ben Malek's decision and decided to stay here anyway. And I heard of Ben Malek, she doesn't exactly let go of things.

"Aicha Ben Malek must have flipped out when she realized Ling had set foot on American soil!" she commented, "let's go find her now, Amy!"

Returning to the streets of Inner City, they looked for the area where Aicha was to be patrolling for the day. It wasn't hard to spot the immigrant officer in her blue jumpsuit walking along the sidewalks looking for anything out of the ordinary. As they approached her, Aicha spoke to them first.

"Hello, Capt. Adalet. You don't need to tell me about Ling Zhang's murder, my chief already got me up to speed," Aicha informed her.

"You're the one who rejected her visa, Miss Ben Malek," Adalet responds, "you must have been pretty angry when you found out she had settled here without your permission!"

"That stinky little rat got through, but I'd have caught up with her eventually! Nobody escapes me! The neighbourhood has become a global hub for illegal immigration, you know," she clenched her jaw, "this is the main reason it has gone to hell. . . But at least Ling's death will save me some paperwork. You don't know how irksome it gets when we lose track of one of the illegal aliens!"

"Is that all you've got to say about it, really?" Amy glared, "I'd say bureaucracy is a struggle Ling could have handled if she had been given the chance."

Later on, at the station. . .

"This was supposed to be a merry jaunt into Inner City, but now we must find out who killed poor Ling Zhang!" Amy sighs, "I gotta say I'm a bit confused, Adalet. So far we've learned our killer practices acupuncture. One could argue they must be Chinese! But they also drink vodka! Which means they must be Russian!"

"Avoid stereotyping the killer, Amy," Adalet advises.

"Oh you're right, Adalet," she flushes, "I should steer clear of such stereotypes. Hello, Amy! They might be neither Chinese nor Russian. . . Phew, all this jumble is giving me a headache!"

"Other than that, public political figure Ivana Golovanov seems to be relishing on feeding the anti-Chinese hate that has been running among the Russian community," she muses, "and there's also Aicha Ben Malek, who's in charge of the Immigration around here and who hated our victim for entering the country without her approval."

"One thing is for certain, Adalet. The ongoing tensions between the Russians and the Chinese are real!" she gulped.

"Adalet! There you are!" Andrea speed over to her, "things are getting out of hand in Inner City. A Russian bar, the Moloko, has just been wrecked! We're on the brink of a street war here!"

"Oh my!" Amy gapes.

"What if it's linked to the killing of Ling Zhang?!" Adalet suggested.

"It doesn't help that Ivana Golovanov is really adding to the drama with her anti-Chinese agenda. . . All of this doesn't bode well!" she panicked.

"Let's focus on what's important, Amy," she says in a calm voice, "what we need to do now is to investigate the bar that's just been vandalized!"

At the Russian bar . . .

"Nice catch, Adalet. This baseball bat you just picked was probably used to trash the bar!" Amy reasoned looking around at the mess.

"It has Chinese ornaments," Adalet remarks as she turned the bat over in her hands, "which means it may be the Chinese who did it as retribution for Ling's murder! Can you get me my case, please? I left it in the car."

"Understood, I'll bring you the powder kit, the vandal will have left fingerprints on it!"

Amy ran out of the bar to get the case while Adalet set the bat down on a table. She also placed the Russian nesting dolls down beside it. The rookie ran back inside with the blue and gold case in her arms and set it down on the center of the table.

"Thanks," Adalet said opening the case.

"And you also found Russian nesting dolls? Awwwww, they are so cute!" Amy coos picking it up and removing the first one, "I just love those dolls, it's a new treat every time you open one! And the smaller they get, the cuter they are!"

"And the better they are for hiding things!" she argued pulling out her brush.

"Of course, there may be something hidden inside. . . We should look into it!" she agreed, pulling off the second doll.

Adalet began dusting the baseball bat for fingerprints while Amy took apart all of the Russian nesting dolls. The captain managed to recover a usable set of prints from the bat's handle and placed the stick of wood in a large bag to preserve the evidence.

"Now that we have isolated fingerprints on that baseball bat, we can send them to Hannah so she can process them!" Adalet says, "did you find anything A- Amy?!"

"Oh please Adalet! Those dolls are too cute! Can I keep them?" Amy begs, holding all of the nesting dolls in her arms.

She sighed, "you'll have to ask the Chief about that, but what's this that you found?"

"Oh! It's a herb bag from Yuan's Garden hidden among the dolls!" she replied as Adalet picked it up off the table.

"It's from Yuan Wong's shop! But why was this bag hidden here, in these Russian dolls?" she frowns looking at the logo, "this warrants another talk with Yuan!"

After dropping the baseball bat off at the lab, Adalet and Amy returned to the herbal shop. The bell above the door signalled their entrance and alerted Yuan to their presence. The old woman looked over from her rearrange of the shelves to see what she could help them with.

"Mrs. Wong, Capt. Adalet found this herbal blend hidden in a Russian nesting doll in the Moloko. Do you have any idea how it ended there?" Amy inquires.

"So she disobeyed me!" Yuan huffed to herself, "Ling went to the Moloko Bar to give it to that boy named Piotr Golovanov! He's a bartender in that hideous place. I'd forbidden her from going!"
