"(Y/N)!"

I was half asleep and barely could hear his voice. I grumpily rolled over and pulled the cover over my head.

"Wake up!" He called again, shaking my arm gently. "I have a surprise for you,"

Blinking, I tried to think about what he was talking about. It's been only a few days since the Principal's death. It barely seemed to change anything. And my 19th birthday... was... today?!

Sitting up quickly, I rubbed my eyes and looked at him with a smile. "Wait," I laughed and attempted to tame my bed-head. "I look terrible."

"Shh, it doesn't matter. You look beautiful no matter what." He smiled brightly at me and tucked my hair behind my ear. "I couldn't sleep because I was so nervous..." he looked away and turned to reach for something behind himself.

I tried to restrain myself from screaming, 'is it a birthday present!?', so I sat with my hands folded in silence.

I told him it was my birthday yesterday, but I didn't expect him to do anything because of such short notice. Plus I didn't really feel like I deserved anything. The most I got on my birthday was a phone when I was 16. I was head over heels for it. Even if it wasn't a birthday present, even if it was just a quarter, I'd be on cloud nine.

He turned back to face me with a small box in his hands.

It was nicely covered in shimmery (f/c) wrapping paper, a fluffy bow sitting on the top.

"Happy birthday, (Y/N)!" He extended the box to me and I gratefully took it, setting it beside me and giving him a huge hug.

"Thank you, Baldi!" I sat the box in my lap and took the bow off carefully, setting it on the top of his head.

He looked up as a piece of ribbon draped over his forehead. He blushed and I tilted my head. "You should wear a bow all the time," I giggled and he facepalmed. "Pink looks good on you."

"Just open it," he said, clearly flustered. He took the bow off and set it to the side, wrapping an arm around his knee. "I need to know if you like it."

I dug a nail into the center of the paper and tore it back, almost feeling a little bad for destroying the wonderful wrapping job. There was a beige box inside.

Lifting the lid off, I saw a glimmer from inside. I set the lid down and looked at the contents. Sitting inside a blanket of white foam, sat a rose gold ring with a perfectly polished heart-shaped rose quartz in the middle.

My eyes widened in surprise and I gasped, taking the ring out and inspecting it closely.

It was flawless.

I looked over at him. He didn't seem worried, probably because of the massive smile on my face.

"It's BEAUTIFUL!" I exclaimed, my cheeks flushing. I put it on my finger, watching it slide on perfectly. "It fits too!"

Baldi let out a relieved sigh. "I'm glad you like it," he said, eyes averting. "I was actually really nerv-"

I cut him off my eveloping him in a bear-hug, burrowing my face into his neck. "Thank you so much," My heart fluttered. "This is the best birthday ever."

He hugged back and laughed, resting his hands on my shoulders. "It's nothing, really," he trailed off, kissing the top of my head.

I pulled back and held his face with both of my hands, staring him in the eyes. "But it is!" I gave a excited smile and shook him.

"This is literally the best birthday I've had my entire life and I just woke up." I spat, letting go of his face and trailing down to his hands. "Usually it's just, I wake up by myself. Dinky present is sitting next to me without a note or anything. Mother never comes home 'til late at night and then she doesn't even wish me a happy birthday." Quietly trailing off, I squeezed his hands and blinked, feeling tears well in my eyes.

He gave me a saddened look and listened.

A tear slipped down my face. "Ugh, I don't know why I'm crying," I laughed nervously as I felt him wipe the tear away.

"Look at me," he whispered, an encouraging smile on his face. "Please don't cry. This is supposed to be a good day for you and I intend to keep it that way."

I sniffed and nodded, weakly grinning at him.

"Dwelling on the past won't help anything. Focus on right now."

He was right. My mother was behind me now. And to think, she only called twice ever since I left.

"Now do you want breakfast or something? I'm starving." He squeezed my hand to pull me out of my negative train of thought.

"I'd love that." I rubbed my eyes.

He seemed so eager to make me smile that it was impressive. And he undoubtedly succeeded.

"Alrighty then!" He scooped me off the bed and held me bridal style. "What do you want?"

"Whatever I want?" Looking up at him in surprise, I slung my arms around his neck. "I could really use some pancakes right now."

He laughed and put me down. "In or out?"

I raised an eyebrow at him. "What do you mean?"

"Do you wanna eat out somewhere or do you want me to attempt to make you some?"

Laughing, I yawned and shrugged. "I'm not going to put you through that, so let's go to iHop or something."

"Yeah, that would probably be better for the both of us." He admitted. "I can barely cook ramen."

"Shh, it's okay, I can cook if we have to."

He rolled his eyes and hugged me from behind. "Yeah, but not today. You're not doing any work today."

I smiled and giggled, tilting my head back and kissing him on the nose.

"Let's get ready then."

I took a shower after Baldi and decided to get ready in the bathroom again. I could hear him humming some odd tune even through the thick wooden door and the entire room's length away.

I wanted to dress up, even the tiniest bit. It gave me some weird sense of confidence. Plus, the ring was too pretty not to.

There were plenty of options from the haul that he brought home, but I singled out a dress that I liked a lot more than the others.

It was kind of dainty looking, not my usual style but a bit of change was nice every once in a while. I still wonder what the cashier was thinking when this super tall, bald guy in a suit walks up with an armful of girl's clothes.

The thought was something to laugh at.

I slipped the dress on and looked in the mirror, fixing my hair a bit. It was rather flirty, and part of me wondered if that was on purpose.

I ran a brush from my bag through my hair, smoothing it out. I had nothing to prepare for really, just some pancakes and hot chocolate, hopefully.

"I'm ready!" I walked out of the bathroom and saw him sitting, fumbling with his tie.

He looked over at me and he smiled.

"Once I get this damn tie, we can leave."

Laughing, I sat next to him on the bed and leaned against his side.

I looked down at the ring and turned my hand, gazing at it.

Best birthday already.
