Molly sat there in the auditorium, grinning like a banshee as she anxiously checked the time on her phone for the sixth time that minute. She couldn't help it, she had been waiting to see Darling since James had first told her about it. Peter Pan was always her favorite Disney movie and as she got older, she loved to read the book, and she quickly became obsessed with everything Peter Pan related. Her knee bobbed up and down and she was sure that to everyone around her she must have looked as though she were high, but Molly couldn't find it in her to care.
She checked her phone again, and saw that the show would start in seven minutes. Still grinning, she quickly typed up a text message to James, hoping that he would get it before he went on stage.
6:53 p.m.
break a leg! i'm sure you're going to do a great job as Peter! <3
After the message was sent, Molly turned off her phone and slipped it into her pocket. When the house lights dimmed, Molly was nearly bursting with excitement. She listened respectfully to the director as he gave his short speech about the show, and then when all of the house lights turned off, the music began.

Molly watched as the thick, blue velvet curtains opened and the stage lit up on a pretty girl with dark brown hair. She shut her book and began to sing, and Molly sat there, enchanted by all the sights and sounds on the stage.
As the first number ended, Molly applauded loudly and beamed, already enjoying the show. The show continued on and Molly sat there, intrigued by everything, and loved every moment of the show. And just when she thought that it couldn't get any better, Peter was introduced.
All of the oxygen was knocked right out of Molly's lungs and she felt as though she couldn't breathe.
She knew him. She knew-knew him. He was her biology lab partner. He sat in front of her in English. He was James. He was the James. Sure, Molly had talked to him before, and she was always friendly with him, it just had never occurred to her that that James could be this James.
When James began to sing, Molly could feel herself swooning over his dreamy voice. Yeah, she knew he could sing, but this...this was angelic.
When the show neared the end, Molly had tears in her eyes. She reached up and brushed a traitor tear off of her cheek as she gazed at the stage in sorrow.
Ursula, the Wendy-like character, stood there and sang to Peter, but he turned and walked away. A tear slipped out of Ursula's eye and she put a hand on her stomach, and smiled slightly.
"I want to fly into a sky of you dear. Oh, won't you be my happy thought? You'll need to trust I'm just for you dear. Oh, won't you, won't you, won't you please be my happy thought?" she sang the final line of the show and the lights went black. As curtain call flew by, Molly stood and clapped for each and every character, even the ensemble. She reached up and brushed another tear off of her cheek as Peter and Ursula came out onto the stage. The girl who had played Ursula bowed first, and then James bowed, and the audience went wild for the both of them.
James' eyes met Molly's and she smiled at him and gave him a thumbs up. The show was perfect and Molly couldn't believe how wonderful the cast truly was.

When the curtains finally closed, James was grinning from ear to ear, and so was everyone else in the cast.
"Great job James!" Kelly, the girl who played Ursula, exclaimed, wrapping her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist and laughed, giddy off of the feeling of performing on stage.
"You too, Kel! You were amazing, as always!" he told her sincerely. He and Kelly had been performing together since fifth grade and had become great friends because of this. He stepped away from her and smiled at some his other friends. They began to make their way back to the dressing rooms and James high fived and hugged several ensemble and other cast members.

"So," Kelly started, bumping her shoulder against his. "Is your girl here tonight?" James had been talking Kelly's ear off about Molly all week, and it was no secret that he really liked this girl. Even still, James could feel his neck warm a bit at the comment, grateful that it was dim in the hallways backstage.
"Yeah she is. I saw her during curtain call and I think she liked it," he trailed off, slightly dazed just thinking about her. When he had caught her eye he couldn't believe the grin that was on her face. He knew that Molly was excited to see the show, she had been talking about it in all of her classes and had texted him and told him as much. "I think you may have made her cry, so..."
"Really? That's awesome!" Kelly cheered, and then realized that what she said sounded incredibly rude. "O-oh! Not like that! I mean...I mean that, uh, that means I played the part really well. I didn't mean that--"
James cut her off with a laugh, stopping in front of the guy's dressing room. "I know what you meant, don't sweat it. See you after I've got all this gunk off my face, okay?" He indicated to all the stage make up on his face and gave her one final smile before pushing the door to the guy's dressing room open and stepping inside.
***
Molly stood in the crowded lobby, watching as cast members slowly began to trickle out to greet their families and get pictures in their costumes. She shifted on her feet awkwardly, suddenly wishing she had her book with her. Even though her mind was still reeling with James' identity beinng revealed and all, she was never one for crowds and had always turned to her trusy novels to help ease her awkwardness.
She peered over people's heads to try and spot James, and just when she was about to stop searching, she spied him exiting from the doors to the music wing where the cast and crew had created make-shift dressing and make up rooms. His eyes also swept throughout the lobby as though he were looking for someone, and when his eyes met her's, she grinned. He returned her bright smile and made his way over to where she was standing.
"So," she started, her voice raised so that he could hear her over the noise of the crowd surrounding them. "You're the mysterious James."
He offered her a nervous smile and let out a breathy laugh. "Not what you expected, right?" Molly could see the slight insecurity in his eyes, as though he expected her to laugh in his face and walk away. But she wouldn't do that. No, he had grown on her and she had even toyed with the thought that she possibly even fancied him, despite the fact that he had only been words on cell phone screen for so long.
"Not at all," she said, and his eyes flashed with that insecurity again. "You're even better in person than I had imagined." She grinned at him and he returned the gesture.
"Well that's good, because I would've hated to dissapoint." he told her jokingly. He had an easy-going smile on his face and Molly couldn't help but think that it made his already attractive face that more appealing. She stared at James' face, and she couldn't believe that this was the boy that she had been slightly crushing on for the past several months. That thought made Molly's grin drop from her face.
I do fancy him, don't I? Molly thought as she briefly glanced at James before staring down at her feet, suddenly feeling a tightness swell in her chest. She shoved her hands in her pockets and looked up at James.
"You did great, by the way," Molly told him, shifting the weight between her feet. She felt unsure to say to him without making herself feel even more awkward, and it seemed as though the awkwardness was suddenly mutual.
"Thanks," he replied, folding his arms awkwardly across his chest. "Uh...you look really beautiful tonight, you know." He told her, and then as if realizing what he had said, his mouth snapped shut and his cheeks tinged slightly pink in embarassment. Molly felt her own cheeks warm as she strugged to form an articulate reply.
"Uh, thank you," she replied as her heart fluttered from the compliment. "You look handsome, too."
And when their eyes met, both their faces blushing, Molly was suddenly very grateful that she had not just ignored the mysterious boy's text message because she knew that she was exactly where she wanted to be.
