《One Moment, One Breath》Chapter Thirteen

The house was quiet.

Aleesia had finally stopped crying somewhere around midnight and had instead sat on the bed, staring at the blank bedroom wall. Her mind was a mess, her motions were a mess and her heart was destroyed.

She didn't care in the least that the vampire that had sired her wanted her dead. She felt no connection to him. To her he was just another person that had now made it on her shitlist. He was right at the top with the bitch Pria from school and the geezer mutts that had kicked her out of the only home she had ever known.

No, her father wanting her dead didn't hurt at all. That she would survive.

But what her family had done, what her mates had done? That cut deep and she wasn't sure if she could trust them anymore. She had trusted them and told them every little painful detail of her past and they hadn't trusted her enough to tell her there was danger lurking nearby. Some part of her felt like she was being immature and throwing a childish tantrum. That was the part of her brain that told her they were only trying to protect her. That part of her brain could go fuck it self.

Lying for any reason, especially to your mate and extra especially when your relationship is just beginning and they are in a potentially life threatening situation, well, that was just shit. There was nothing, no excuse on earth that would make that okay.

Aleesia picked at her nails while her eyes traced every little divet in the cream colored wall that was directly in front of her. Normally she'd have turned her senses off by now but she couldn't relax. She knew that there were five other people in the house and only one of them had a heartbeat. She knew the exact moment Jasper had finally walked through the front door. Nessie was in her room down the hall while the other four were littered about downstairs. She could hear their occasional foot steps and their slow breaths but other than that they made no sound. Her mind was alert, searching for any sign of a threat, listening for the smallest shifts in movement.

Esme had come to the door earlier, trying to get her to eat with the excuse that she needed her strength to heal but she refused. She didn't want to hear any of them much less see them right now and she didn't want their help. She'd heal just fine within the next day or so. Most of the venom was gone now. Only a slight burning sensation remained.

The only thing keeping her in this house now was her sense of self preservation. She knew she was injured and weak. Even at her strongest she was not strong enough to beat her father. Leaving this house was basically a death sentence.

She looked over to the far wall that held a large glass window and a glass sliding door that led out to a shared balcony. It was still dark out, the moon casting an eerie glow on the snow that had accumulated on the outside surfaces. It looked beautiful. It looked peaceful.

Aleesia uncurled herself and flipped off of the bed before walking quietly to the glass door and pushing it open. A blast of cold air hit her, becoming her outside. She didn't care that she was barely dressed in pajamas or that she had no coat. She could feel the cold but it didn't affect her. She actually quite enjoyed it.

The snow crunched under her feet as she made her way to the sturdy wooden railing surrounding all but one side of the balcony, the open side being where the stairs were that lead down to the ground.

She stood there for probably thirty minutes with her eyes scanning the forest and sky. Someone was out there watching her. She could feel their eyes but she didn't know which one it was and couldn't care less. She spun on her heel and headed back into the room, sliding the door closed behind her, a clear message that they were not welcomed.

There was a light knock on the bedroom door. She heard the fluttering of a quick heartbeat so she knew it was Nessie.

"Come in." She spoke quietly as she made her way back to the bed and sat down, pulling her knees to her chest.

Renesmee opened the door and entered, quickly shutting it and locking it behind her. She walked over to the bed and held out a plate with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a banana. Nessie's normally happy brown eyes were glued to the floor and there was a small frown maring her usually happy features.

"I didn't know." She said quietly and Aleesia could hear the honesty and fear in her voice.

She took the plate from the girl and patted the bed next to her. Nessie took that as a sign and climbed onto the other side, snuggling up against the friend who had saved her life.

"Thank you, Aleesia." Nessie whispered quietly, resting her head on Aleesia's shoulder.

"I'd do it a thousand times over if it meant you were safe, Renesmee." She replied honestly, knowing exactly what Nessie meant. She'd have given her life to save Renesmee and she'd do it again if it meant her friend would be safe from her sadistic father. She'd never let him lay a finger on Renesmee.

They stayed like that cuddle together, drawing strength from one another. Aleesia quietly ate the food Nessie had brought her and set the plate aside. Nessie yawned for the billionth time so Aleesia took the hint and laid down, cradling the girl against her and they fell asleep.

She woke up to the sound of glass shattering and someone yelling. Nessie was gone, leaving her alone in the room but both doors were still closed and no one else was here. She used her senses and listened, shocked as to what she was hearing.

"Nessie you don't understand we were trying to-" Jake's voice cut off.

"I don't care! You hid things from us! You all lied to us! Aleesia was hurt because no one could be bothered to tell us the truth!" Renemee yelled, and she heard a loud thump and someone grunt before she hissed, "Don't touch me, Jacob Black!"

"Renesmee. it was for your protection." Edward's voice said, sounding concerned, sad and annoyed at the same time.

"Fat lot of good that did, Dad! Now there is a psychopath vampire trying to kill my best friend and kidnap me to do God only knows what to me! Your protection worked really well, don't you think?" She sassed back.

"Nessie-" Alice started to speak but again Renesmee cut her off.

"I swear to God if any of you touch me right now I will make you relive what I had to see and hear that day! Just leave us alone." She hissed. Aleesia listened to Renesmee's footsteps as she flew up the stairs and went to her room, locking the door behind her.

The tension in the house was so thick you could probably cut it with a knife as the house once again turned silent. Aleesia heard heavy steps run to the front door before slamming it and she heard bone cracking meaning Jake had shifted. Now there were only three others in the house.

Nessie was in her room and Edward was down stairs. The final person was sitting outside of Aleesia's bedroom door. She knew it was Jasper and she knew he could hear her, could sense every emotion she was feeling but she didn't care. At this particular moment her screaming bladder was her main concern.

She stood up from the bed and opened the random doors joined to her room until she found the bathroom. The first two had been closets, one of them containing clothes that she had gathered to take a much needed bath or shower, whichever she found first.

The bathroom was decently sized and had a large tub surrounded by a frosted glass screen. Like most of the other surfaces in the house, the bathroom was decorated in neutral tones with only a splash of light blues to add some color. Aleesia didn't waste more time, not that she needed to worry about that, it's not like she was doing much. She did her business then started the bath water, letting the tub fill with boiling hot water as she slowly and carefully stripped out of her clothes. She removed the bindings from her ribs and the brace from her hand then reached for the bandage that was around her neck and removed that last.

Her reflection was as she expected. There was still minimat bruising around her ribs but it was mostly healed. Her hand was perfectly fine but her neck was another story. The bite mark looked red and angry but mostly healed. The ugly scaring was brobably because of her fucked up gene pool and the venom that had gotten into her bloodstream. She sighed and turned away from her reflection, deciding she would come to terms with that later.

She climbed into the tub and sank slowly into the hot water, giving her body time to adjust and sighing contentedly as she grabbed the closest bottle of soap. It smelled like every basic bitch clear ocean breeze scent on the market but she couldn't really be picky at this point. She took her time washing her body, scrubbing extra hard around the bite mark and frowned when she realized she couldn't get the feeling of his fingers wrapped around her throat to go away. She hated it. She scrubbed until the skin turned a little red then stopped and accepted that she'd just have to learn to deal with it.

She climbed out a few minutes later and dried off before pulling on the button up and jeans she had found in the closet. They belonged to Renesmee, she could tell based on the scent which relaxed her a little. Right now she didn't want to deal with the others. She had yet to decide if she would be able to forgive them.

When she left the bathroom she noticed there was a tray of food on her bed. She padded over to it and noticed it was a heaping plate of spaghetti and meatballs. There was also a note with Jasper's elegant handwriting on it reading, 'I'm sorry'.

Aleesia snorted and tore the note in half then grabbed the tray, heading for the balcony. With A flick of her hand she flung it over the edge and listened, smiling a little when she heard the glass shatter. Childish? Yes. Satisfying? Immensely so.

Someone downstairs cursed, probably Edward and she heard him exit the house, most likely to clean up the mess she had just made. Maybe now they would take the fucking hint. She didn't care if she had to break Esme's whole set of china if it meant they would take the hint and leave her alone to process her thoughts. It was the least they could do.

The burning in her neck was now just a low ache but her throat was becoming more and more irritated from not feeding. She would need to go soon but it wouldn't be tonight. Something in her gut told her to stay inside for now so she listened and she would wait.
