《Undead Nightmare》Chapter 5: DEAD On The Streets

International Seaport: Tokyo Bay
Walking just outside a large barbed wire fence was a large amount of undead. They pushed their way up against the fence, some got stuck while others piled up on top of each other. One of the undead had some how managed to get to the top of the fence and grabbed onto the barbed wire. Out of nowhere a shot rang out and the head of the undead exploded into pieces. The undead's body fell down off of the top of the fence and onto a few other undead walking up to the fence. Far away from the fence, over on an abandoned aircraft carrier, a sniper is positioned.
The sniper stands up and removes their helmet revealing themselves to be a woman. She has long red hair that has been put up, she has blue eyes as well as a bandage on her nose. This woman is none other than Remi Tatagami, the older sister of Y/N.
"That is another one dead" Remi says as she pushes the bolt on her sniper back, ejecting a cartridge
"Is it just me or are those things getting smarter?" A voice asked Remi
"I sure hope not Koturo" Remi said
Behind Remi another female soldier walked over to her and sat down next to her. She had long blonde hair put up in a pony tail and she had green eyes, this girl also wore a bit more “revealing” outfit then Remi. This girl was Koturo Kotani and she was Remi's friend, sniping partner and spotter.
"I still don't know why the chief lets you wear your outfit like that" Remi said with a sigh
"He knows that it makes me look cuter and it reveals my defining features to the world" Koturo replied with a grin
"Not that it really matters since the world has pretty much ended and all the guys are either assholes or zombies" Remi said as loaded another bullet and fired at an undead near the fence
"You are right about that Remi but at least I still have you" Koturo said grabbing onto Remi and hugging her
"Yeah I know, now get off" Remi said as she elbowed Koturo in the side
Koturo let go of Remi allowing her to eject the empty cartridge and load another one into the chamber
"Is something bothering you Remi?" Koturo asked Remi worried
"No, I just got a voice mail from my little brother" Remi answered as she fired another round at an undead
"Little Y/N sent you a message? How is he?" Koturo asked Remi
"From his message he seems to be doing fine, he actually is surviving with a group of friends from his school" Remi answered as she ejected the empty cartridge
"Wait, Y/N friends? That isn't something you hear every day" Koturo said sounding surprised
"I know right, him making friends, especially at that shit school" Remi said as she loaded another cartridge
"I'm glad he's still alive and doing well and that he's made some friends finally" Koturo said sounding glad
"Me too, I just wish it was under better circumstances" Remi said as she let out a sigh
"You want to go and find him don't you?" Koturo asked Remi
"I do but our orders are to stay here and clear the way for more survivors while the SAT clears out Kansai International Airport" Remi answered as she took a shot at an undead stuck in the fence
"Well if you do decide to break the rules and get court-martialed or worse, I'll be by your side" Koturo told Remi

"I know you will and I know that Y/N doesn't need me, he can survive this with his friends" Remi said as she ejected the empty cartridge
"Hell that kid can survive anything, especially after what your guys dad, uncles and grandfather put him through" Koturo said
"I will call him and tell him about the evacuation site, right after I take care of this" Remi said as she fired a round at an undead on top of a shipping container, killing it instantly
_________________________________________
So far for Y/N, he had been doing a good job of surviving on his own after being separated from the others. He had found some new weapons and gear and even a bike for transportation. Y/N may have run into a little “road block” along the way but he was able to get past it and continue on his way. So far Y/N had gone a whole day without any sleep and wasn't showing any signs of stopping. He drove as far as he could for as long as he could until he was able to make it to Onbetsu Bridge. Seeing that the sun was up, Y/N decided to make a pit stop. He was going to wake himself up and also try to get ahold of his sister one more time.
_________________________________________
I had found a good place to stop and try to wake myself up as well as try to get ahold of my sister one more time. Onbetsu Bridge wasn't that far away from my location and I figured that now would be the only time I'd get to do this. I raided a little coffee shop I was next to and grabbed an energy drink. It would keep me awake until I got to the others and we found a safe place to go. I knew it wasn't all that good for me but I needed some type of caffeine or sugar in my system to wake me up. I then pulled out my phone and went to call my sister but to my surprise she called me. I answered the phone and immediately started to talk to her.
"Remi is this you?" I asked
"Who else would it be you big dummy?" Remi asked me
"Sorry, I just needed to be sure it was you and not some rando" I said apologizing to her
"Don't worry about it, I'm just glad to hear that you are alive and well after everything that is going on" Remi replied
"Speaking of that, do you know what is going on with all of this?" I asked Remi
"Honestly little brother, I don't know for sure, JDF and the SAT have no idea how this started or where this came from" Remi answered sounding disappointed
"Usually it comes from a lab or some animal diseases like something from the movies" I said
"I figured that as well but this isn't like the movies unfortunately, now little brother, tell me where you and your friends are?" Remi asked me
"I'm near Onbetsu Bridge, I'm meeting up with my friends there and after that we are going to find a way out of the city" I answered telling her what I was going to do
"Listen to me Y/N, you and your friends cannot leave the city the normal way, all of the check points at the bridges have fallen and the ones that haven't aren't a safe place to be" Remi told me, giving me a warning about the bridges out of the city
"Then how are we going to get out of the city Remi? We can't take the bridges and I don't think finding a boat is a good option" I told her

"Look, Koturo and I along with a few other JDF members are stationed at the Seaport in Tokyo Bay, once you regroup with your friends, take the back ways out of the city, the ones I showed you as a kid, once you do that, I can get you out of Japan and to safety" Remi told me
"Wait, there's an evac point at Tokyo Bay?" I asked Remi confused
"We are getting officials, important government people as well as civilians out of Tokyo and the nearby cities, we aren't going to be here long, we'll be stationed here for 7 days, after that or if something happens we leave and don't come back" Remi answered telling me what was going on
"Where will you be going?" I asked Remi
"First we'll see if Okinawa is safe and if it isn't then we're heading to Tsushima and lastly a secret Japanese island that some of my rank doesn't know about" Remi answered
"Okay, thanks sis, I'll get my friends and we'll head to Tokyo Bay as quickly as we can" I told Remi
"I know you will, now go and be safe" Remi said
She and I said our goodbyes and hung up, it was good to hear her voice and know she was okay but it was also good to know that there was a way out of Japan. I needed to get to Onbetsu Bridge and regroup with the others quickly, I didn't trust the JDF to stay there for those 7 days so time was of the essence. I turned on the bike and reved the engine before speeding off to Onbetsu Bridge.
Saeko and the remaining others had been on the bus with Shido and his group for some time now. Shido was still proclaiming himself as the leader of the group even after what Y/N did to him. Something of things he was saying was pure nonsense and his students believed every word of it. Saeko and the others did their best to ignore him but it was becoming even more difficult. Saeko had told them about the plan to regroup with Y/N, Takashi and Rei at Onbetsu Bridge and they agreed with it. The only thing was that Shido was having Shizuka continue to drive the bus towards one of the check points, unbeknownst to them what was going on at them.
"Trust me when I say this, you young ones have nothing to fear as long you trust in me" Shido told the students
At that point Saya had heard enough and decided that it was just best if she got off of the bus. Saeko and Kohta were going to go with her, they too couldn't stand Shido either.
"Alright, that is it, I've had enough of this" Saya said standing up from her seat
Shizuka had stopped the bus and opened the doors so the others could get off
"Wait, where are you going?" Shido asked them confused
"I can't deal with all the bull you are spewing so I am leaving" Saya said as she walked towards the doors
"You can't leave, I am your teacher and you need me to survive what is going on" Shido said trying to get them to stop leaving
"I'll have better luck surviving with Tatagami and Komuro" Saya said as she walked off the bus
"You are not going to leave here, I refuse to let that filthy disgusting good for nothing mutt and that nobody lead you" Shido told Saya with anger and hatred in his voice
"You can't tell us what to do and you can't say those things about Tatagami because they aren't true" Kohta said standing up for Y/N
"My oh my, where was this courage Mr. Hirano when we were in class?" Shido asked Kohta trying to intimidate him
"I...I won't let you control me, I...I'm useful now" Kohta said nervously
"Say what you want Mr. Hirano but you will always be nothing" Shido told Kohta
At that moment, Saeko hit Shido in the head with her wooden sword knocking him backwards but not killing him
"You will keep your mouth shut, I would of thought Tatagami-san's words would have taught you something but it seems you didn't listen" Saeko tells Shido
"Come Hirano, you don't have to take that kind of crap from that nothing" Saya said grabbing Kohta and taking him off of the bus
Once Kohta and Saya walked off, Saeko joined them, Shido couldn't believe that they stood up to him and just left like that. He could hear the whispers of the students and to him it sounded like they were questioning his “leadership”.
"Yeah, I'm kinda done here as well" Shizuka said standing up and leaving the driver seat
"Wait, miss Shizuka, you can't leave, we need you here with us" Shido said trying to get Shizuka not to leave
"Sorry but they need me more and if I'm being honest, you kinda creep me out" Shizuka said before she grabbed her medical supplies and left the bus
Shido was frozen, he could get over Saeko and the others leaving but with Shizuka leaving like that he didn't know what to do. Outside of the bus, Saeko lead the others to Onbetsu Bridge where they would meet up with Y/N, Takashi and Rei.

Onbetsu Bridge: City
As I was driving towards Onbetsu Bridge I could hear the sound of fighting going on down below the bottom of the bridge. I peaked over and saw Busujima fighting undead with Hirano, Takagi along with Miyamoto. I could see that they were starting to get outnumbered by zombies. I decided that now would be the time to swoop in and save the day, kinda like the heroes in the comics I read as a kid. With that, I drove the bike backwards to get some distance before driving forwards at full speed. The bike launched off the side of the bridge into the air, I jumped off the bike and kicked it towards a large group of zombies.
As I fell to the ground I pulled out my revolver and fired a round at the gas tank of the bike. That created a large explosion that killed the large group of zombies. I fell to the ground hard but thankfully I was able soften the blow without knocking my self out.
"Look who decided to show up" Komuro said as I got up slowly
"Sorry, I'm late, that usually never happens" I said as I shot a zombie that tried to attack me
"I see you got your self some new fire power" Saeko said looking at my revolver and other two guns
"I did a little window shopping" I replied as I unloaded the remaining four rounds killing zombies
I quickly reloaded and pulled out my repeater unleashing round after round, killing all of the zombies that came at me. A zombie tried to attack me from behind, I reacted quickly and hit the zombie in the gut with the butt of my reapeter. As the zombie stumbled backwards I unsheathed my tanto and I stabbed it in the head. Two more zombies came at me so I used my tanto and my combat sickle to kill both of them. I looked on and saw that Hirano had gotten his hands on a handgun and was using it to kill zombies.
"Hirano, where did you get a gun?" I asked him as I cut the leg of zombie before stabbing it in the head
"Oh, Komuro gave it to me" Hirano answered as he continued to fire rounds at the zombies
"Komuro you gave Hirano a gun, why did you give the gun otaku a gun?" I asked Komuro as I cut a zombie's head in half
"I figured he could use it better then me" Komuro answered as he bashed the head of a zombie in
Looking at Hirano and seeing how skilled he was with the handgun and knowing he had probably never actually gotten his hands on a real one, Komuro was right to have given it to him. The only thing was that he was going to run out of ammo soon and the ammo I was using for my guns wasn't going to work with that model of handgun.
"We need to quickly kill these zombies and get out of here" Saeko said as she defended miss Shizuka from some zombies
She was right, we couldn't stay here much longer, all of the noise we were making killing these zombies would only attract more. There wasn't all that many left so I decided to finish them all off myself. Quickly I pumped my trench gun and began to unload all the rounds in the gun killing all of the remaining zombies around us. Once it was all over, I pumped out the empty shell before hanging the gun back over my shoulder.
"That was climatic" Takagi said
"You were using a Winchester model 1897, where did you find such an old gun?" Hirano asked me as he eyeballed the shotgun hanging off my shoulder
"Found it in a pawn shop but right now we need to focus on other things" I said
"And you have a Colt 1851 Navy along with a Winchester 1886 repeater" Hirano said gawking over my other two firearms
"Now isn't the time Hirano" I said trying to get him to focus
"Stop fanboying over his guns you otaku gun nut" Takagi told Hirano
"Sorry, I just get excited when I see cool guns" Hirano said apologizing
"Don't worry about it but right now we need to focus, all the noise we made killing those zombies will only attract more here" I said
"Tatagami is right about that, if more show up we won't be able to kill them all" Komuro said
"We need to find a place to stay for the night" Busujima said speaking up
"Once we find a place to stay we can head to Tokyo and Tokyo Bay" I said
"Why do we need to go there?" Takagi asked
The others gave me that look letting me know they wanted to know as well
"Like I said before, my sister is a member of JDF and she told me that they have an extraction point set up at Tokyo Bay, they are taking government officials as well as civilians survivors out of Japan by sea and heading to nearby islands hoping the virus hasn't gotten there" I answered telling everyone about the evacuation site
"I'm going to take a good guess and say that they aren't going to be staying there for a long while?" Busujima asked
"My sister told me 7 days but she also said they could leave at any moment for whatever reason" I answered
"We need to hurry then and make there as quickly as we can" Takagi said
"It's getting dark and who knows how these things will act during the dark" I said
"We can always go to my friend Rika's place" miss Shizuka said speaking up
"Does she live near here?" I asked miss Shizuka
"Yeah, she doesn't live that far from here, I've got a key to her place and she also has some supplies we can use" miss Shizuka answered
"You don't think she'll mind us stopping by all of a sudden especially with everything going on?" Miyamoto asked miss Shizuka
"Rika has a government job so she isn't always home, last I heard she left the country so she shouldn't be there and I don't think she'll mind if we borrow a few things" miss Shizuka answered
"Sounds like a plan then, miss Shizuka lead us to your friend's place" I said
"Great, just follow me then" miss Shizuka said with a smile
Miss Shizuka then began to lead the way to her friend Rika's place as the rest of us followed behind her

Riftwalker
Legend speaks that a roaring force of insatiable abyss lies beneath the peaceful overworld. Named the Rift after its chasm-like entrances, this unexplored void has consumed the underneath for eons. What had seemed just a myth crawled out of unreality in the form of eldritch creatures. Reborn as something not entirely human, mankind rejected the boy. Thrown into the Rift by people who feared him, he had to live in a world run by monsters as a newborn. Surviving, however, wasn't his only difficulty as he soon had to decide whether he would save the people who banished him or simply idle as the Rift engulfed all life. As of chapter 9, Riftwalker is on a very small hiatus. I'm very busy with work atm :( Here are a couple of things to expect: Lots of action and exploration! Diverse and refreshing creatures; There are good and evil. Satisfying progression and coming of age. The protagonist stands out but isn't overpowered. There are some litRPG elements, but it's not a determinant factor. The fights are decided through one's combat skill and experience and not stat-checking. Oh, and some other info: There is a bit of gore, but nothing disturbing. Occasionally, there will be images of the scenery and landscape. Chapters will be around 1,5k to 2k words long, and the releases will probably be relatively slow, sorry.
