《Fusion Online》Chapter 2: Massacre

Ian sprints towards the large market place, for it has something the player needs. This place was a shipyard market. Every store, left and right, would have discounts, special offers, sales, and more to promote selling.. Ian looks around in a rush as in looking for that one particular place. He walks further into the giant plaza. 'C'mon, where are you.' Ian thought while keeping on his search. 'An, their you are.' Ian smirks, walking up to a store called "Fighter Wing". Inside the store are several fighters hanging from the ceiling, others parked around the sides, and some in the middle to look at. He keeps walking foreword until he sees a clerk behind a cashier counter. Ian steps in front of the counter and openned his menu before he presses on his item icon and scrolls down to find his credits. 'Ok. 1,000 credits is all I have. The fighter is at 250 so that should give me enough for ammunition and maybe some modifications.' Ian thinks as he finally looks at the clerk. "Hello, how may I help you?" The female clerk says with a smile. "I would like to buy an Arc-170." Ian replies. "Very well, that will be 500 credits." The clerk says. "F-five hundred!! In the beta it was 250, this is a rip-off!!" Ian says madly as he slams his fist to the counter. "I-I'm sorry but that's the price. I really can't do anything about it." The virtual clerk says, terrified of the Mandalorian armored player in front of her. "Uh, fine whatever. Here" Ian pulls out the 500 credits and hands it to the clerk. "Thank you very much. Your fighter should be at hanger A-28." The clerk replies. Ian sprints out of the store and hunts for hanger A-28.
'What a ripoff, now I can't get my modifications to the Arc. Guess I better start raiding imperial outpost.' Ian stops in front of a massive hanger bay big enough to fit in, at maximum, 10 Jedi Cuisers. Ian smiles under his helmet and walks inside, looking for a sign that would lead him to the direction of hanger A-28. Inside the hanger bay are about 1,000 players some looking to find their ships, others to meet up with friends, and some to just look around. 'Let's see, walk down that hallway and make a right. Ok, not so hard.' The Mandalorian Spartan walks down the hall until a human size hologram appears at almost every corner. 'What the?' Ian thinks as he looks at the hologram. The hologram displays Emperor Palpatine in his Sith Lord outfit, his hood covering his eyes and nose while leaving his mouth visible. All the players look at a hologram near them and murmur a couple of words to their fellow friends.

"Hello Soldiers, I hope I'm not interrupting anything....serious" the Sith Lord begins his speec. Players whisper to each other. "Welcome to Fusion, the first Artificial/Virtual Reality game. As some of you have sent some complaints about the log-off button not being available," Players nod in agreement, for the log-off button was not shown in the menu ", I assure you. . . this is not a bug." Many players look at the hologram in shock while others yell to know why they can't log off. "All of you are now trapped in this world, ready to fight your way out. This is how you pathetic players will live until you finish the game. The only thing is, if you die here, well, you won't be living in the real world either." The emperor laughs evilly as players yell in anger, and others stay silent in shock. "And if anyone in the outside world tries to pull off your Neuron Pulser, it will do as it's name applies and send a pulse from your head to your heart and make it overwork, suffering a gruesome death. I have warned the outside world but, let's just say. 112 players are no longer breathing." The news sends fear into player's souls for a death in Fusion is a death in real life.
"That's not true."
"stop lying."
"get me out of here."
These are many screams players repeat to the terrifying news they have just heard. "But, the escape is simple. Conquer the galaxy and eliminate the enemy Factions that include The Covenant, The Galactic Empire, and The Separatist Droid Army. But, to start the game, only the best of the best can do this. For now enemy factions have sent troops to every planet to kill any player for the next 2 hours. If you survive this first mission, you can then proceed to conquer the Galaxy." The holorgam then shuts off as heavy clanking of footstep is heard through out the hanger bay. "Look! Players!" A B1 battle droid says. "Well then don't just stand their. Blast them!!" The commanding B1 battle droid says. The platoon of droids start firing upon the scared players. Ian quickly draws his twin Westar-35 blasters and start defending himself from the waves of B1 battle droids. "Everyone, get on a republic frigate now!" Ian yells at an open comm frequency that is heard to all the players wearing their helmets. Ian is then immediately bombarded with questions, screams and questions. "Listen, just do it or you won't get to live!" Ian tells the players as he takes down 8 B1 battle droids. Everyone replies with a form of affirmation. Ian turns of the comm frequency and rushes to hanger A-28. As he approaches the hanger, many stormtroopers are in the hanger landing from imperial transport. The stormtroopers turn around as they hear Ian enter the hanger. "Blast him." A stormtroopers says as they start firing at Ian's direction. Ian rolls towards a large crate and takes cover from the laser fire. Ian waits for sometime before he charges straight towards the stormtroopers. Ian shoots 2 down, jumps and spins, shooting at 8 stormtroopers, and throws a thermal detonator to the final 10. After the battle Ian gets in his Arc-170 and prepares to for take off. At the same time stormtroopers enter the hanger and start firing at the Arc. "C'mon hurry." Ian says as he starts slamming buttons to take off. "We have a player trying to escape, we need reinforcements." A stormtroopers says as he starts firing the arc. "Just...a little...more" Ian says as he finally activates his ship and starts firing at the stormtroopers. After he takes out the stormtroopers he turns his Arc around and fly's out of the hanger and into space. "Well. That was close." Ian checks on his radar as no imperial ships went chasing after him. "Now we can finally go-" Ian stops halfway as a Star Destroyer jumps out of hyperspace. "Not now!" Ian turns his ship around to the opposite direction and stars calculating his jump to light speed. "Maybe they haven't spotted me" Ian says as the Star Destroyer starts deploying Tie Fighters. "5 more seconds." Ian says,

A missile is launched to the Arc
"Now!!"
Ian slams a button as it starts its jump to light speed and leaves the planet Kuat.
"That was close. Now. Where to-." Ian gets cut off as he receives a transmission. He opens the transmission.
"Hello. I am Calem. A level 18 player and currently the highest ranked player. I am calling all players to Yavin 4 for an immediate meeting to find a way to stop and leave this place. Thank you that is all" the transmission shuts down.
"Funny, I'm a level 28. But whatever." Ian then sets to Yavin 4.

What happens when one creates a story then leaves everything to chance? Thousands of paths stretch out endlessly that separate into even more, countless paths. And then, all but one is destroyed with a single roll of a twenty-sided die. The die becomes the true author while the writer just provides possibilities then takes a backseat and narrates. This story will be random. To save time, the characters and some of the events will be somewhat generic, but past that all bets are off. It will create tropes and then shatter them. Characters can and will die. Even the writer doesn’t know how this story will play out. The die is the god of this world that rolls and everything it says goes. The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
