《Story of Us》CHAPTER 7

"We'll go ahead now," Jade mumbled as Stephen sat beside me.

Jade and Jam kept me company as I waited for Stephen's org meeting to be over. We hang out at the bleachers and watched the afternoon joggers run around the track. Jade even had a crush on one of the guys who kept glancing at us.

The girls said goodbye and left the two of us sitting on the bleachers.

"Thanks for waiting," Stephen beamed at me.

I smiled at him.

I was still trying to contemplate if our relationship was worth fighting for; or if I should keep on trying to make it work. They said couples would deal with problems, but they would be able to sort it out. After that, the relationship would be easier and lighter. But that wasn't what was happening with me and Stephen. It was becoming more and more difficult as Stephen continued his jealousy on my friends—most especially on Miguel.

I remembered Lily asking if I was still happy about this. Stephen made me happy. But if I was being honest, he was also the reason why I was sad and stressed out most of the time.

Is the stress worth it?

"I'm sorry about our previous fights," Stephen whispered as he took my hand and held it.

Finally, he apologized for everything he said and did.

"I told you, there's nothing to be jealous about. Haven't you seen his girl? He is head over heels for her."

"I don't know. I'm just scared of losing you."

"You won't," I reassured.

"By the way, I have something for you," he smiled at me and hastily opened his bag.

He took out a box of Toblerone and handed it to me. I reached for it and thumbed the brand's name. I frowned.

"Is this a peace offering?"

He smiled genuinely at me. "Something like that."

Stephen was trying to make peace with me, but it looked like he had forgotten that I wasn't fond of chocolates. Honestly, I was more disappointed at his gesture than I was touched.

Shouldn't he know this by now?

Maybe I should just give this one to Kane when I see her.

Mara and I walked out of the shoe boutique. I was carrying two paper bags containing her two new pairs of shoes and another paper bag of her new hand bag that we had bought earlier.

"Do you really need two new pairs? Not to mention these are the same but only different in color," I asked, raising my left hand to show her the paper bag of shoes.

"Yes. I need them. Enough of your questions, okay? I didn't ask for your money to pay for that. Let's go and buy what you came here for."

We passed by the other shoe boutiques and Mara eyed the displays with excitement, but decided not to give in to temptation. We turned right and walked down until we reached the jewellery store.

We entered the store and looked at the display of necklaces. There were a variety of necklaces and even more variety for the pendants. I was starting to think that it would be harder to make a decision than I initially thought it would be.

Finally, my eyes landed on a dainty silver necklace with a small, studded heart pendant. It was simple but it looked elegant at the same time. I thought it really suits Charlotte. I wanted to buy something special for her. I had already given her something on Valentine's Day but her birthday was coming up, and I wanted to surprise her again.

"What do you think about this one?" I asked Mara as I stared closely at the necklace. She approached me, and I pointed the necklace to her. She leaned forward to look closely at it.

"Are you sure this isn't for Bianca?" she asked. "It looks like something she'd wear."

"No. How many times do I have to tell you? I'm dating someone else," I explained patiently. "And this necklace looks like something all my female friends will wear."

"Well, I don't know the girl but this necklace sure is pretty." She turned to the sales associate and said, "We'll take this."

I chuckled. My sister was like a boss, as always.

The male sales associate, probably in his mid-twenties, nodded nervously. Mara and I exchanged glances.

"I think he has a crush on you," I whispered.

"Oh, please."

We watched as he pulled out a bunch of keys from the drawer behind him, and began unlocking the glass cabinet. He took out the necklace, and I handed him my card.

"James is coming home about three weeks from now. Would you care to invite this mystery girl to a double date? I want to meet her because my baby brother is crazy about her."

I grinned, excited about the idea of having a double date. "Sure, I'd like the two of you to meet."
