When I wake up I feel lonely. After last night his scent alone isnt as soothing as it might've seemed at the time and I pull myself out of the bed to leave the room in a daze; in search for him, hoping that he havent left me again.
As soon as I exit the room im startled by Summer.
"Oh" She exclaims and look wide eyed at me up and down. I realize that im still having his lab coat around me, it made me so serene I instinctively hanged onto it. I swiftly pull it off myself and hold it under my arm instead.
"I didnt realize" I excuse myself and rub the sleep from my eyes.
"So... did you guys make up?" She asks. I have a feeling she isnt a hundred percent sure about this but I dont blame her, its her grandpa...
"Im not sure yet..." I answer.
"But wasnt he going to..." She stop herself, she doesnt need to continue. I shrug at this. Im not sure what he's planning.
"Hm.." She looks troubled.
"What?"
"Its just that.. wouldnt that be for the better?" She continues carefully, nervously fiddling with her fingers. I stare at her; forcing her to continue.
"He's so-"
"Old?" I fill it in for her.
"Its not like you have a future together anyway" She state a little more certainly and I feel a stab in my gut. I open my mouth about to argue back but close it and stay quiet. She isnt wrong but I still dont want to hear it. I sigh and shake my head.
"I dont know, we need to talk and solve this, im not even sure if he's still here?"
"He's in the garage, he's been there the entire morning"
And the entire night...
"Okay, thank you" I smile at her and excuse myself down the stairs.
I walk past the kitchen where I meet Beth and Jerry, Beth on her way to work and Jerry sitting with a computer in the sofa.
"Good morning" I greet them and their head turn in my direction, both looking as chocked as Summer was.
"Oh hello dear" Beth smiles "I didnt know you were here"
"I didnt plan on staying here, I had to help Rick home from the bar yesterday" I roll my eyes in a playful way. She seem taken back by my surprisingly good mood.
"You look happier" She state but im uncertain if it actually rejoice her?
"Yeah, well, im going to the garage, you both have a nice day" I smile but its strained. I shouldnt be grumpy, he hurt me so they have every right to be chocked over this sudden change, they have the right to feel skeptical over this whole thing for many reasons. Yet I cant help but feel sad over it...

I enter the garage and close the door behind me. Rick throws a quick glimpse over his shoulder where he sits, devoured in whatever it is he's doing. He's wearing a long sleeved, blue shirt, the fabric following his slim but sinewy arms, his shoulders are on the wider side, it was all hidden under the coat. His legs are bent to his sides and wide apart, too long to be folded comfortably under the table.
"I didnt want to wake you up" He speaks. I wasnt even going to ask. He didnt even sleep for twenty minutes but he doesnt know that I know that.
"Its okay... I.. eum.. I brought your coat" I reach the folded piece of fabric towards him and he reach a hand back without looking and takes it from me. "So... What are you working on?" I ask and move a little closer. The proximity between us is already affecting me.
"Another microverse battery" His voice is low, his words confusing.
"Micro..verse? Why not just call it miniverse? Or teenyverse?" I suggest and chuckle. Rick gives me an unimpressed stare.
"Laaaaaamee" He says and I shake my head. To not disturb his work I take the opportunity to look around in his garage, I've already been here before but it looks different now, shelves that wasnt here before, objects and creations that glow, some that doesnt. I dont touch any of it since I have no idea what they do.
"You said something about a different universe yesterday, you not being in your universe or something? What did you mean by that?" I ask while crouching down to look at a tiny robot looking thing on the floor. I hear him sigh like the answer was obvious.
"Some shit happened so I came to this one instead" I take a moment to process his words.
"So there's different ones?"
"Yes, infinite realities, infinite.. Ricks" He continues working.
"So is there infinite of me?" I ask and look up at him. My question makes him stop what he's doing and he spinn on his chair to turn towards me. His eyes look into mine while he speaks.
"Computer, how many Y/N L/N is there in alternate universes?"
"There is one Y/N L/N" A robotic voice responds.
"Looks like you only exist in this one, damn.. you're rare" He looks entertained and cross his arms over his chest "What are the chances that me and you would be in this one huh?"
"So dont you have other soulmates in other universes?"
"No" He answers quickly.
"No?"
"Not all universes have soulmates" He explains and I widen my eyes slightly.
"So the universe you came from, did you have soulbonds there?" I ask.
"No"

"Then how-"
"I have no fucking idea" He interrupts me with a grunt. That doesnt make any sense. If he's from a place without soulmates then he shouldnt even have one in the first place? So what happened? Why us? Why me? If it was never ment to be?
"Seriously, yo-your thinking makes MY head hurt" He whines and rub his tempels.
"Well no wonder you have an headache since you didnt get any sleep" He stops, realizing that I did in fact notice when he left.
"You..." I hesitate, I have a feeling that his nightmare was in some way personal and that he might not want to talk about it but I still cant help myself out of curiosity. "You had a nightmare"
"So you noticed that huh?" I nod. I take note of how his shoulders slouch a little bit more even if he tries to hide it.
"What was it about? If you dont mind me asking?"
"Its doesnt matter, I have them a lot" He dismissively waves with his hand and turns around to continue with his invention. I decide to not push him any further. If he wanted to talk about it he would.
"So.. where are your parents?" He asks while yet again being consumed by his.. microverse battery.
"I lost them in an accident a few years ago, so its just me" I explain. It's been so many years now that im used to it, more or less...
"You live alone?"
"Yeah"
"And work at a bar?"
"Yep.." What made him so curious all of the sudden?
"That's a trash place"
"I think its beautiful"
"The booze is shit there" Is he trying to upset me? Or is he just being his usual self right now? He do seem to be quite insensitive by nature.
"But my coworker is great"
"That heavy metal looking guy?"
"Marcus, I didnt think you noticed him? You were pretty wasted" He scoffs at this. This is when I all of sudden remember that I actually have school today.
"Oh shit" I quickly pull up my phone to check the clock and see that im going to be late, I wonder if Summer has left already?
"What now?" Rick grunts.
"I have school"
"School is for idiots"
"Yeah, yeah, I still want to get my education" I dont take his words too seriously. Its no wonder he's grumpy all the time if he drinks and doesnt sleep?
"Want to go on an adventure?" He suddenly asks and I jerk my head in surprise. He spinns in his chair again and look at me with a smug face.
"I.. What kind of adventure?" My own words makes me blush, my dirty mind making up scenarios in my head against my will and Rick seems to notice.
"Well I guess with me THAT would be an adventure" He grins and my cheeks glow even more, causing me to rub my cheeks and shake my head to pull myself together "But no, I was talking about this" He pulls up the portal gun from last night and shoot a green glowing thing onto the floor. I stare in awe. Is that what we fell through? It looks terrifying but it cant be harmful since I've already done it once, right? And he must surely do it a lot since he's so casual about it? And nothing have happened to him.
Except for a severe drinking problem and a god syndrom...
"I guess I can skip school just this one-" Im interrupted when Rick's long arm shoot forward to grab my hand and he pulls me with him down through the portal, the feeling of falling is so sudden that I cant scream - only gasp in chock. We land on our feet, we didnt fell far but I wasnt ready and would've fell flat on my ass if it wasnt for Rick grabbing my waist and pulling me towards himself.
"Let's get going" He starts to walk and I grieve the loss of his hands on my body.
"Where to?" I start following him and first now take in my surroundings, the place causes me to stop dead in my track and I can hear Rick groan in impatience.
Its nothing like I've ever seen before.
There are huge threes and in the distance I can see complex structures that have been built into them like houses, the branches curling around the walls protectively. There's a mist in the air, the sky is blue, the ground covered with grass and plants unlike anything you can find on earth, because we must surely be on another planet right now? Not even the air feels like im used to, it has a higher humidity and instead of smoke, gas from cars and hot concrete I now smell something earthy. I see glowing fruits, or whatever it is? scattered around in the vegetation and when I lower my gaze I notice tiny, blue crystals sticking out through the dirt. I carefully touch one with my foot and it breaks and falls into thousand pieces. Sparkling like stars on a clear night sky. Beautiful.
"Are you done?" Rick sighs. I nod and hurry after him, his strides are so long that I struggle to keep up.
"Where are we?" I ask but the instant my words reach his ears I feel a strike of pain through my heart, but the sorrow isnt mine, its Ricks.
"I.. uh... I used to have a friend here..."

A Man and His Greatsword
Michael Adkins is a unique 28-year-old man. Born with above average strength and emerald green eyes, he always wanted to live in a fantasy world. He was very much into fantasy light novels, manga, and anime, especially a certain one that involves a black armored man with a large greatsword. Michael always dreamed of going on an adventure in a fantasy world. On a whim, Michael is summoned by the god of Alorah, one of the fantasy worlds he had always read about! Alorah's God, Eden, gives Michael a choice of three bonuses and a custom class to take with him into Alorah. This is the start of Michael's fantasy adventures. P.S. This is my first novel, I'm writing this since there were little novels I've found with a main character that wields a greatsword. Don't expect anything good. There will be a lot of mistakes, so please help me with that! P.P.S The later chapters will (hopefully) be much less cringy than the early ones. Please give it a shot!
