《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Eight

As the sun shone in through my blinds the next day, I swiftly made my way out of my bed so that I could begin to get ready for the day ahead.

I looked into the mirror and sighed. How could one eighteen year old girl be so small? I had always wondered that. However, after years of being made fun of for being able to fit into children's clothes still, you sort of got used to it. At least it came with its perks, like tricking people into allowing me to order off the children's menu. Even things that didn't look as though they would have their benefits did at the end of the day. The evening had been considerably warm, even for a September evening, so I decided to take it upon myself to have a cold shower.

Once I was sufficiently washed with my tea tree shower gel, I washed it off my body and stepped back into my room after I had got changed into my outfit for the day- a pale blue sweatshirt and some jeans, too. Even though it had been a warm evening, the morning certainly wasn't warm. Then again, I had accidentally left a window open. I didn't mean to be so sensitive but I supposed I had been a little saddened to hear that Callie was talking to Ben again. I thought that she would have had the strength to move on from him. I did understand her actions, though. I knew that she really did love Ben and this must have all been difficult for her. I could understand her going back to him.

Relationships certainly did seem complicated, at least where my sister was concerned. It made me have to wonder whether I was doing the right thing here. I could only hope so. After years of being closeted it was a relief that I was finally able to date who I wanted to. The only thing to do now was to find someone who wanted to date me back.

I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen, where I found Callie stood drinking a glass of water.

"Hola sister," I greeted her.

"Hey you," she replied, "How are you feeling?" she asked me, probably slightly concerned by the look of worry on my face.

"I don't know, Callie," I said, as it was the truth.

"What's wrong? Who do I need to hit?" she asked me.

I gave a slight shake of my head.

"Nobody. At least, not yet. Anyway, I need to get myself to school, alright? I'll see you soon," I assured her.

Callie simply gave a nod of her head and I made my way out of the house, so that I could get into the car with Emmy.

"Hey honey. Are you excited for the day ahead?" she asked me.

"Depends. You still want me to ask a girl out?" I asked her.

"Uh-huh, honey. You're doing this. You made a deal!" she told me and then groaned, as we stopped by a red light.

"Can I back out of this one?" I asked her.

"I think the hell not. Listen, it's going to go great. You just need to be calm and confident," she told me.

Emmy was the expert in being calm and confident. I was like her less calm, less confident sidekick at times.

"Listen, it's going to be fine. Girls," she said.

I exhaled as I stared out the window, with this longing feeling in my heart.

"Girls," I said.

"Exactly! You've been waiting for this day for ages. It's time that you took life by the reigns and went after what you really want," Emmy told me, as she was allowed to drive past the red light.

A few minutes later, we had arrived in the car park of the school.

"Yay! Let's go," Emmy said, as she hopped out of the driver's side of the vehicle.

"Okay," I whispered to myself, before making my way out of the car too.

"Okay, I'm nervous," Emmy said.

"Why?" I asked her.

"'Cause, you know, I messaged Ryder and I'm joining the athletics team now," she said.

I felt my eyes widen slightly at that.

"You are?" I asked her, as we entered the school and began to walk down the hall.

"Yup," she said.

Before I could ask her any more questions about that, the bell rang out which signalled that it was time for the both of us to make our way towards our art class again.

As soon as we had arrived, we found that we were early again but that was a good thing. It just gave us some time to work on our title pages to our sketchbooks for this year. People that inspired me. I could come up with something that fitted that topic. Besides, I was sure that my mother and Callie would both be more than happy to be models for my art work. They had always been far more confident than I had ever been but I admired the both of them for it.

Emmy and I worked away until Miss Mack entered the room, with a grin upon her face.

"Hello everyone! I don't think I need to give you much further instruction, this project is yours. I do have news, though, we will be welcoming a new student," she said.

Right. Courtney. I had almost forgotten about her in all of the drama that was currently occurring with my sister.

After Miss Mack had mentioned the girl, she stepped into the room and looked around at us all with a look of curiosity upon her face.

"What? Oh! I'm half an hour late. Damn," Courtney said.

"Come in and sit down, Miss Allen, then I can begin to explain your project this year to you," she said.

Courtney nodded in agreement, as her expression seemed to relax a little. She soon met my gaze though, and the corner of her lip turned up a little.

I smiled back at her and then the smile disappeared, as she looked back down towards her book.
