《Your Guide to Writing the Perfect Story》Introduction

I feel as though it would only be appropriate to have an introduction for this book. Of course, since you've clicked "start reading" or at least noticed the introduction in the table of contents, you must be at least considering reading my book. If that is the case, then congratulations! You want to improve your writing skills! Hurrah!

Since you've so kindly gotten this far (you're doing good, bear with me), I suppose I should give you a little hint about what you are about to get yourself into. This is, well, a guide. I'm hoping that you already interpreted that part from my title. Although it says the guide to the "perfect" story, that isn't exactly true. I know what you're thinking: The lies! The injustice! Okay, so maybe your book won't be "perfect" by the time we're done here, but nothing is. I assure you, I will help you in every way that I can.

Moving on, the reason I started these tutorials is because I pride myself on being a critic/editor for over fifty different stories. You can imagine that I would have picked up a few things or two over all of my time spent pouring over the words of aspiring writers. I've seen a lot of things that make me want to bang my head against the wall. I feel as though it is my duty to prevent that from ever happening again.

To answer your question, I am not the most talented writer on Wattpad. My stories won't kill you with the sheer power of my beautiful words. I am not trying to insinuate that. The editors of authors can't necessarily write nearly as well as the author them self, but they are great at seeing what's wrong with the book, what's good about it, and how to fix things. That's why I am here: to show you what not to do, what to do, and how to do it.

Now that that nasty business is cleared up, I guess I should let you know about what I will be focusing on. The answer is. . . well, everything. I will write about grammar, punctuation, characterization, plot, flow, and even such things as how to write a romance scene. All of your questions about creating the "perfect" cover will be answered and everything you need to know about short stories, fanfictions, and novels will be included as well. I even have entire chapters dedicated to dealing with criticism and pressure. If I count, I have over seventy chapter ideas so, believe me, I have put a lot of thought into this. If, by some incredibly rare chance, I do not have what you wanted advice on, just let me know and I will get on it as soon as I can! Please realize that I do have a social life and responsibilities that do not include this book, so I won't be able to update all the time, but I will try.

If you are bored with reading about the confusing difference between colons and semicolons and where you put a comma versus a period, never fear! I don't like writing about it any more than you like reading about it, but, unfortunately, it's very necessary to the success of your story. We'll get past it soon enough, just be patient.

Also, please note that everything mentioned in this book are simply guidelines. You don't have to take my advice because it is just that: advice. I'm very interested to know your own methods of writing if they are different from mine so feel free to leave some comments!

That concludes my introduction for now! Please stay tuned for new chapters. Thank you very much.
