《Lover's Day: Izuku Midoriya x Reader x Bakugou》Chapter 11- Birds, bees, and love letters

You looked down at your phone deep in thought, scrolling through the messages you had sent to Uraraka regarding your date with Bakugou. A whirlpool of mixed emotions filled you. Despite agreeing to the date purely out of animosity for Midoriya, you actually had a nice time. The clever banter you were able to exchange with Katsuki was surprisingly addicting. He was a perfect match for your wit... almost. Not to mention that you never had to worry about hurting his feelings. You had mentally settled on the fact that he was a very secure back-up plan for Lovers Day. But something still stirred you with unease. You fiddled with the lovely dangling earrings you had worn since Midoriya bought them for you. Iida's words echoed, haunting your mind: "Do you want Midoriya to win?"

"I guess I did..." You admitted to yourself. You looked up, seeing his green eyes appear before you, clear as day. "AGH!"

"Good morning, F/N!" He greeted brightly.

"Izuku, you scared me."

"Yeah. You looked pretty deep in thought and I didn't want to interrupt. Is something bothering you?" He asked.

"Uh..." You decided not to answer. "What are you doing here? You aren't usually on my train in the morning."

"Oh? Yeah. I woke up earlier than usual and went for a run. I guess I just happened to wind up on the same train as you. Small world, huh?"

"Mm." You nodded. It was much too early for his bubbliness.

"While I was out..." He turned to pull something out of his backpack. "I uh- found this for you..." A small pink lily came into view. You clenched your eyes shut for a moment. 'Just stop.' You begged internally. The more effort he presented, the more excruciating it was for you. "I remember the other day you said that you liked them..." He fell silent upon seeing your pained expression. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." You lied, taking the flower from him. "Thank you. It's beautiful." You pulled a bobby pin out of your purse, snapped off the stem and pinned it in your hair behind your ear. "How does it look?" You asked.

"I think you look very attractful." He stated stupidly. "Er- wait. That's not a word. What I meant to say was beautiful... but you had already said it was beautiful so I tried to say that it was attractive and it came out as... Ugh!" He threw his arms around his head to cover his blush. You always liked that shy little display of his. You giggled, feeling your mood uplift slightly.

"Well thanks. You will have to protect me from the bees on the way to school though." He smiled blissfully at the notion that you wanted his protection.

The two of you departed the train together and approached the courtyard filled with cherry blossoms.

"I wanted to ask you something." Izuku piped up.

"Yeah?"

"Regarding Kacchan." He began. Your eyes widened in panic. You waited for him to continue. "That is... do you like-"

"EEK!"

"AGH!"

BWOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSHHHH!!!!!

You coughed as a massive gust nearly knocked you to the ground. Your mind had to catch up to what had just happened. A buzz had flown past your ear, causing you to squeal. You saw Midoriya raise his hand to flick it away before a tremendous wind blew the petals off of your lily.

"Jeez. What on earth was- AGH! Did you just use your quirk?!"

"I-" You grabbed his hand, examining the damage.

"Why did you do that?!" You barked.

"It was an accident! I went to flick the bee away and it just sort of happened!"

You shook your head at him, gently enclosing his hand in both of yours. His thumb and middle finger were tattered and bruised. "Does it hurt?" You asked, already knowing the answer.

"It's not bad..." You knew he was being misleading to keep you from worrying. You absentmindedly planted a kiss on his hand but it had no effect.

"Damn. I guess that only works when Recovery Girl does it." You mumbled.

"No no... That was healing enough..." He squeaked, his face now matching the color of his uniform tie.

"Come on, doofus. I'm taking you to the nurse." You mocked playfully, dragging him to the office.

"...You again." Was all Recovery Girl said. He looked down at the floor guiltily. "You know you're here more than any of your other classmates-"

"This time it's my fault." You interrupted rudely. "Please make him feel better." You lifted his hand out to her face impudently. You guessed that your anger from this morning was redirecting itself. You were in no mood to hear a lecture when your Izuku was in pain. 'Wait... MY Izuku? DAMMIT! Stop thinking about that!' After a moment of watching your intense expression, she smiled and obeyed.

"Thank you." You and Midoriya said in unison.

"We should get to class." He said, eyelids drooping.

"Oh no." Recovery girl objected. "You need to rest for a little while to regain your stamina. We've been over this."

"But we have class." He looked distraught.

"I'll catch you up on whatever you miss." You offered. "Get some sleep." You walked out the door as he nestled into a cot. You halted out of his sight, getting out a piece of paper and pen to write something down.

"Your girlfriend seems very nice." Recovery girl said loudly with intent. You turned, meeting her piercing eyes through the doorway.

"GIRLFRIEND?!" Midoriya squawked.

"Yes. It's obvious she cares a great deal for you." She smiled wickedly. Your mouth fell open in horror, but no words came out. Midoriya's voice rang out, stammering incoherently. Your cheeks burned with embarrassment as you turned and jogged down the hallway.

"Hey, F/N." Uraraka called as you entered the classroom. You greeted her. "What on earth did you do to your hair?" She asked.

"My hair?" You questioned, pulling out a compact mirror from your purse. "GWAH!" Your reflection was horrendous. Your hair was completely matted and windblown by Midoriya's explosive quirk. You patted it down spastically before returning to your seat. 'Why didn't Izuku say anything?! Ugh. He is polite to a fault.' You rolled your eyes, getting out the note you were working on.

Your bravery was unmatched today when you took on those villainous bees in an epic battle of life and death. You're a true hero and minstrels will write songs about you.

You smirked to yourself. You thought the false anonymity was a nice touch. "Very theatrical." You decided to leave it by his bedside during your 10 minute break between classes. You grumbled at Recovery Girl, who continued to flash you significant glances as you did so.

It wasn't hard to convince Iida and Uraraka to stop to visit Midoriya on the way to lunch. You heard him giggle to himself as you strolled into the room.

"Oh, good. You're awake." You observed.

"Thanks for the note." He said.

"I don't know what you're talking about." You jested. "That letter was anonymous. It could have been from anybody. It's probably from one of your dorky fangirls." He chuckled.

"Oh hey guys." Midoriya greeted as Uraraka and Iida trailed into the room.

"Hey, Deku. How are you feeling?" She asked.

"I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking."

"We can bring our lunches in here if-"

"No that's okay. I feel rested enough. Let's go to the cafeteria."

"Soooo... F/N." Ochako began as you sat down. "How was your date with Bakugou?"

"Who said it was a date?" You asked playfully, immediately recognizing her game.

"Everyone's talking about it." She winked. You tilted your head in Bakugou's direction, meeting his eyes across the room. 'Yes, we're talking about you.'

"Really..." You smirked. "Speaking of rumors... I hear you've been spending a lot of time with Kirishima recently." You noticed Izuku and Iida look at each other.

"That's true." She said with a flip of the hair.

"He's really handsome." You cooed. "Is it serious?"

"That's none of your business." She waved her hand in a falsely bashful gesture. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Iida stab his meat slightly more violently than necessary. "But you didn't answer me. How was the date? Where did you end up going?"

"Well first we went out for coffee and then we went back to his place to study."

"Woah. What are his parents like?" Uraraka asked out of pure curiosity, momentarily forgetting the point of the conversation. You thought about it for a moment before answering.

"Exactly what you'd expect." Katsuki raised an eyebrow at you, a tiny smug smile pulled at his lips. 'So you CAN hear us.' You mentally confirmed.

"So they're scary?"

"I never said that." You laughed at her. "But I think it's safe to assume that there's never a moment of silence in that house."

"Ooh. While you were there did he... make a move?" She asked, wiggling her shoulders in a vixenish manner.

"Sorry, Uraraka. I don't kiss and tell." You held up your hand to leave the conversation there. 'Since we didn't actually kiss either way...' Suddenly, your attention was drawn to Midoriya, who had abruptly stood up.

"What's wrong, Deku?" Uraraka inquired.

"...Nothing. I just... realized I have to do something..." He answered, appearing surprised by his own rash actions. "I'll... be right back." His brows were knit together but not in anger as you would have expected. It was the same expression he exemplified during hero training exercises.

"Hurry back..." You said. '...so I can make you jealous again...' You watched him strut out of the room with purposeful determination. You glanced back to find an empty seat where Bakugou was sitting not only a moment ago. He reappeared in sight, following Midoriya out of the room. A sense of panic began to build. 'What is he gonna do to him?!'

Lunch period was nearing its end before Midoriya finally returned to sit down. You regarded him warily, looking for any potential bruises. He looked proud, full of energy. "So... what were you doing?" You asked.

"I uh... left something in the nurse's office." He answered quickly. "Kacchan went to class early to steal my seat again..." He mumbled in an irked sort of way.

"What a shame." Uraraka placated remotely before the bell rang.

In the classroom you sat down behind a very satisfied looking Bakugou and watched as Midoriya passively accepted it.

You opened your desk to grab your pencil, finding a neatly folded piece of paper with a heart scrawled on it. A tingling excitement filled you body as you unfolded the letter. It was in handwriting that almost oozed that it was tenderly written. The words were light and certain letters were curled with a flourish. It read:

Your beauty outshines the sun itself.

My life was a cold winter's day until you came and touched it, kindling the warmth within me.

At the beginning you are my good morning

and at the end of the day, you are my sweetest thoughts.

There are days I stand in disbelief, thinking you must be a dream. But then you wake my heart and fly me to the mountain tops.

In more ways than one, you are my hero. Because you inspire me every day to be the best I can be. And there is no greater gift that someone can give to another.

Forever will never be long enough as long as it's with you.

Eternally yours..."

Your cheeks flushed as the words touched your heart. Your hand drifted over your collarbone, waiting for the breath to return to your body. "This is beautiful." You whispered. "Who wrote this?" You weren't sure why, but your gaze felt drawn to Midoriya. Before he could speak, Bakugou swiftly turned in his seat to face you.

"I did, of course." He bragged, his voice seething with confidence.

"WHAT?!" Izuku squawked out of the corner of your eye.

"Yeah. See?" He pointed down to the bottom corner of your letter. "I signed it." You looked down to see his heavy-handed signature that you hadn't noticed before. "YOU wrote this, Katsuki?" You squeaked, not sure how to react. You had no idea that kind of poetry was in him.

"Wait a minute!" Midoriya yelped, leaping over his desk. He seized Katsuki by his uniform and hauled him to his feet. "He's lying! He didn't-"

"You're just jealous that I got to her first, nerd!" Bakugo interjected, his hands starting to spark.

"No! That's not it at all!" He hollered. What was he doing? It wasn't enough that he was playing you and Ochako? He had to sabotage your romantic interactions with Bakugou too? You knew they were rivals but this was too much! You clenched your teeth in anger.

"That's enough!" You screamed, launching yourself in between them. You grabbed Izuku's wrist, detaching it from Bakugou's coat. He was taken aback by your action.

"But F/N-" He asserted, his eyes painted with distress.

"Sit down, Midoriya!" You snapped at him. You had never raised your voice to him, let alone call him only by his last name. He looked at you with a mix of hurt and bitter defiance. It caught you so off guard that you dropped his wrist, speechless. However, you still decided to hold his gaze until he backed down. You were certain he would. The tension hung thick on the air in the pin-drop silence. Finally, his gaze softened and he looked away sadly. 'I knew it.' You thought, sitting down behind Katsuki as lecture began.

You watched every minute go by on the clock, desperately wanting to get the hell out of there. The second the bell rang, you were up out of your seat making a beeline for the door.

"F/N, wait!" Midoriya called. "I need to talk to you about something." You couldn't help but hesitate at the doorway at the sound of his sincere tone.

"Clearly she doesn't want to talk to you." Bakugou snapped.

"This doesn't involve you, Kacchan! So stay out of it!" He retorted back.

"Beat it, Shitzuku!" Katsuki continued.

"That's mean, Bakugou." Tsuyuu said.

"What?! I didn't come up with it. SHE did!" You turned to find Katsuki pointing in your direction, every eye in the room locked on you. 'He didn't...'

"Yeah right, Kacchan! Don't lie and try to start something between us!" He defended you ferociously.

"I ain't lying, idiot! Why would I make that up?!" He crossed his arms and looked back at you. Your mouth hung open, a display of your deep feeling of betrayal from Katsuki's trust. "Look. She doesn't even deny it."

"Wh-" Midoriya stared at you, baffled and utterly heartbroken. You couldn't stand to face him and turned yourself away. A deep shame arose in an overwhelming shroud. "Why would you say that?" He managed to squeak out. You squeezed your eyes shut, feeling entirely sick of playing these stupid games. Finally, against your will, the truth came out.

"Because I was mad at you!" You shouted, tears threatening to fall. He stared at you in shock. You spun and darted from the room, trying to escape the torment.

"Ah! Wait!" Midoriya called, running after you. "Come back!" He managed to catch up to you at the school entrance. You felt a strong hand grab your arm, halting your movement. "F/N, tell me what's wrong." He pleaded.

"Dammit, Midoriya! Enough is enough! Stop pretending like you care!" You snarled, ripping your arm from his grasp.

"But I..." He stepped forward again but you turned away.

"Go home!" You snapped, storming down the sidewalk.

"...do care..."
