Chapter Eight- Party
It had been two months since I last saw the movie stars. I had gone back to my normal routine, nothing had really changed. Except I became really close with Tom. We would text each other every day, and I learned so much about him. He was defiantly one of my best friends even if we were miles away. I also became closer to Daniel and Rupert. They got my number courtesy of Tom and I texted them too, but still not as much as I text Tom. My life was in contentment as of now, and it was nice not having to worry about anything.
I was thinking this as I leaned across the office counter looking at the empty small waiting room. Work was going really slow lately. I guess animals just wouldn't get hurt anymore? Well whatever it is it makes my job a lot easier.
I heard my cell phone ring in my pocket.
Not looking at the caller id I answered "Hello?"
"Cassie!"
"Oh my god hey Tom what's up?"
"Well me and the guys are having a party Friday"
"And?"
"I wanted to know if you could come"
"Where is it?"
"At the house"
"But that's two hours away" I whined.
You see I learned a while ago that Tom and Daniel share a house. And apparently it's a big house too. But he lived two hours away.
"Come on! It's like a little road trip...please?"
"Why are you even having a party? Aren't you still working?"
"Well...yeah but it's kind of like a cast party"
"Whoa wait you want me to come to a cast party?"
"...yeah, please I promise It will be fun" he begged. I rolled my eyes.
"Fine I'll come"
"yes! see u then ok?"
"Ok bye"
"Bye"
I wasn't looking forward to the long drive that I would have to drive alone, but getting to finally see the guys again was going to be great.
Friday seemed to come by fast. You could tell Tom was really excited by his recent text messages. Which made me laugh.
I ended up leaving my apartment at five in the afternoon. I had to admit that the ride didn't seem that long, because I was singing along to all of my favorite songs.
When I saw their house I nearly Ran into their mail box. Huge did not even cover how big this house was. There were a million cars parked on the street, I found a spot. And shut the door of my car still in awe.
I walked up to the steps and knocked on the door. I wasn't really sure if they would be able to hear me though, but soon enough the door started to move.
"Oh hey Cas" Daniel said as he greeted me with a hug.

I laughed "Hey Dan"
"Glad you actually came...I had my doubts with you living so far away and everything, but Tom promised you'd come" he rolled his eyes.
I smiled. "Damn you look hot Cas" he said examining me.
"Um thanks" I said with a blush on my face.
"Too bad your Tom's girl" he sighed.
I laughed "Are you drunk?"
He shrugged "Maybe a little....FELTON!" he yelled.
I put my hair behind my ear as Tom rounded the corner.
"Cassie!" he smiled and embraced me in a huge hug. He smelled wonderful...like peppermint.
"Tom!" I said mocking him.
"When did you get here?"
"Five minutes ago"
"Dan I told you to tell me the second she got here not five minutes later!" he said annoyed.
"Well whatever" Dan said walking into another room woozily.
"Isn't he not even allowed to drink yet?" I laughed.
"Yeah well when your Harry Potter I don't think it really matters"
I laughed.
Then running down the stairs toward Tom and I was a dog. He was a rather big dog covered in dark chocolate fur. I already knew who this was.
I kneeled down "You must be Timber" I saw his tail wagging.
Tom laughed "He likes you"
I smiled "Well why wouldn't your dog like me?"
"Uh...you're so confusing" he shook his head.
"Yeah missed you too" I joked.
"I did miss you...now come on I want you to meet someone"
"Okay" I said as he led me into another room that was blasting with music.
He led me straight up to a girl. She had her curly brown hair pined back, and was wearing jeans with a white tee shirt with 3 inch heels "Cassie this is Emma, Emma Cassie"
She smiled at me "so this is the famous Cassie?"
"Famous?" I asked glaring at Tom.
"What Oliver? Oh yeah I'm coming" he said walking away.
"He just made that up didn't he?" I asked.
She laughed "yep Oliver is all the way over there" she pointed to the other side of the room, and I laughed with her.
"So I hear you're a Harry Potter fan?" she asked.
"Yeah?" how did she know so much about me? It was creepy.
"Oh don't worry I don't go stocking people when I'm not filming." We both laughed "Tom talks about you a lot"
I laughed "Really?"
"Yeah, it's crazy how much he talks about you really...you guys must be close"
"Well as close as you can get with only meeting each other once and then messaging each other constantly" I laughed.
She coughed on her drink. "This is the second time you've met?"
"Yeah?"
"Well I knew you guys met like what was it-"
"Two months ago" I hinted.

"Two months ago at Wonderland, but I thought you would have seen each other since then...I mean the way he talks about you it's like he has known you since you were kids" We went to sit on the leather couch that was near us.
"Well for one hasn't he been working?"
"We don't work twenty four/ seven Cassie"
"Yes but you don't work in London" I smirked.
"Oh...well...I never thought about that" her brows furrowed.
I laughed at her expression as Timber came and put his head in my lap. I pet his head, lightly stroking it.
"Wow his dog even likes you!" she said spilling some of her drink.
"So?" I asked.
"Timber usually growls at new people for forever before he trust them"
"Well I do work with animals, but I don't know" I shrugged.
She took a long gulp of her drink which defiantly had the fragrance of alcohol.
"You know I'm surprised Tom actually introduced us"
"Why?"
"He thinks if we become friends I'll hang around the set with you and we will squeal a lot" I laughed
She swallowed the rest of her drink and shouted. "That's a great idea! You should come on the set!"
Suddenly Rupert popped up from behind the couch which caused me to jump and scream, and Timber to bark.
"Cassandra Dean what have you done to my dog?" Tom said reappearing from his dramatical disappearance.
"Nothing Rupert scared me" I glared at him "and I jumped and Timber barked"
Tom looked at me puzzled and bent down in front of Timber who still had his head in my lap. Tom started petting him and said "What's gotten into you boy?"
"Anyway what's a great idea Em?" Rupert asked.
"Cassie should come on the set"
"What no she shouldn't" Tom quickly replied.
"Yes she should it would be great...oh you have to meet Bonnie"
"No not Bonnie" Tom groaned.
"Really Emma I couldn't"
"Oh nonsense I'll go get her" She hopped off the couch and drifted away.
"So you want a drink?" Rupert asked.
"Oh no...I...I don't drink" I stuttered immediately thinking of Will.
"Okay whatever...you should really come on set though... We'll be shooting a couple of scenes not far from here next week you should come"
"No...no Cassie on the set" Tom said stubbornly. I was starting to think he didn't want anything to do with me...but then again he begged me to come here.
"I really couldn't" I said. I really would have given anything to go on the Set. Anything. But if Tom didn't want me there then for some reason it would feel awkward and I don't like awkward situations.
"Oh come on we'll keep you company, and you wouldn't even have to look at Tom" he laughed, which consequently made me laugh.
"I don't know" I still said undecided if I really wanted to go or not. Why would I want to make Tom unhappy?
"Cassie this is Bonnie" Emma said coming back.
I stood up which caused Timber to whimper and shook hands with Bonnie. "Hi" I said.
"Hello I hear your coming on the set?"
I glared at Emma "no probably not" I said.
"Oh please come! Me and Em hate be the only girls please it will be so much fun" She smiled at me.
"Please?" Rupert, Emma, and Bonnie asked in unison giving me puppy dog eyes.
I sighed "fine"
"Yay!" Emma and Bonnie said while Tom groaned "No"
"Why do you not want me to come so much?" I looked at him.
"Oh uh well...it's just...uh...." he stuck his tongue out at me and left somewhere.
"Man he acts weird lately" Rupert said.
"Look I'll pick you up Monday my parents live near you" Emma said.
"How do you know where I live?" I asked.
"Tom" they all said in unison, and for some reason I blushed a little.
The time seemed to rush by, for according to the clock on my phone it was already eleven p.m. I hadn't seen Tom since they decided that I was going on the set.
I walked away from the three main rooms that were filled with people in search for him. I went up the stairs and started down a hallway when I heard something.
I kept walking hoping to hear it better. It was music. Sweet beautiful music. I walked to the room where it was coming from just as the melody ended. I opened the door a little more, causing it to squeak loudly.
"You know there is a thing called knocking" Tom said looking at music sheets below him.
"Why didn't you ever tell me you played the guitar?" I asked.
He looked at me clearly a little shocked that it was me. "It just never came up" he said looking back at his guitar.
I took a risk and went to sit next to him on his bed. "Look if you really don't want me to go I won't" I said
"Really you would do that?" he asked staring at me.
"Well yeah if me going on the set makes you so upset that you barely talk to me...it's not worth it" I said shrugging.
"So you won't go?"
"No I won't go" I forced a smile on my face.
He smiled genuinely back.
"So changing the subject...what are you writing?" I asked looking down at the music sheets.
"Just messing around right now...nothing important" he smiled at me.
[Author's Note]- Okay so Tom's dog Timber is real. (Like he really has a dog named Timber) but i just found out not to long ago that Timber is actually a girl. Since i wrote this in 2010 i couldn't really go back and change the dogs gender so yeah, just fyi

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
