《Relief》Chapter Eleven

DREW'S POV

I could tell that Katelyn was nervous, her leg was jittering and she had this nervous energy about her. Placing my hand on her thigh, she looked over at me and gave a weak smile. Today was the first day of Randy's trial. He was being charged with drug possession, attempted rape, breaching a restraining order and first degree murder. Katelyn was still going to be called as a witness at some point, but we weren't sure when. When we pulled up outside the courthouse, press swarmed the car, taking photos and yelling questions.

'Katelyn, how are you feeling?'

'Do you expect a fair trial?' We both shrugged off the questions and ascended the steps to the building. Once inside, we had our possessions checked by the guards and walked through the metal detector. I glanced at Katelyn, she looked ready to pass out. She hadn't slept for the past 3 days and had made herself sick with worry. I took her hand and led her into an empty side room.

'Katelyn, things will be okay, I promise,' I pulled her to my chest and rubbed her back. The door opened and our lawyer, Daniel Stanton, walked in.

'Mr and Mrs Galloway, good morning,' he placed his briefcase on the table and shook our hands. 'Today will mainly consist of swearing in the jury, Mr Orton entering his plea, which I have been told he is pleading not guilty, opening statements and possibly a look at the evidence. How are you holding up, Katelyn?'

'She hasn't slept in 3 days and has been making herself ill,' I replied for her.

'The sooner this is over, the better for everyone. But I fear this may go on for at least a week, maybe two, especially if he intends to plead not guilty. I've read some of the notes from his lawyer and you should be aware, Katelyn, that Randall has every intention of saying the two of you had a long term affair and he got jealous because you were flirting with somebody else the night of the party.'

'That's lies,' Katelyn cried. 'That's bullcrap. I wouldn't fuck him, so he goes and kills my sister.'

'I know it is baby,' I looked at her, the anguish in her eyes was unbearable. 'We both know he's lying. We give our evidence and let the jury decide if he's guilty or not.'

'I know he's going to get away with it.'

'No, he won't,' I tried to reassure her. There was a knock on the door and a court clerk popped their head round, telling us that we were being called into the court room.

KATELYN'S POV

It was the third day of the trial and I took a deep breath and walked to the witness stand. Swearing an oath to tell the truth, I sat down and awaited the defence attorney's questions. Truth be known, I was shitting myself.

'Mrs Galloway, is it true that you and the defendant had a sexual affair for several months before the night of the 18th of November 2018?'

'No, it is not. I had been away from the company for a while, following the birth of my son. That night was the first time I had seen Randy, um, Mr Orton in over a year.'

'You had previously had an affair that ended your engagement, didn't you? With a Mr Joe Anoa'i? The same man that you accused of rape last year.'

'No, that is false. Yes, Mr Anoa'i did rape me, but we never had an affair.'

'It seems to me, Mrs Galloway, that you have a tendency to sleep with these men and when it comes to your husband finding out, you cry rape.'

'That's not true,' I could feel tears prick the back of my eye. 'I never asked for any of it to happen, not Joe or Randy. Randy is a snake, plain and simple. He didn't like the fact that I was having a little fun with my husband in a public pool, he got jealous and tried to hurt me. He succeeded. I miscarried my baby after the incident and had to have emergency surgery because I nearly died. He, Randall Orton, did that to me. Nobody else.'

'I have a statement here from the doctor who treated you that night. She says, and I quote, 'Mrs Galloway was unconscious when she arrived at the ER, clearly intoxicated and high on something.''

'Objection, your honor,' our lawyer said. 'How could the doctor have known she was intoxicated if she was unconscious?'

'Sustained,' the judge said gruffly. 'Mr Carter, your job is to try and get the facts. Mrs Galloway is not the one on trial here.'

'Oh, but I am,' I cried, turning to look up at the judge. 'Because it seems, according to Randy, I'm a tease who had a long affair with him, then he drugs me because he got jealous of me spending time with my husband, then 6 weeks later, he breaks his bail and restraining order conditions to come to my house, stab my sister several times and then tries to hurt my son. And his lawyer is backing him, making it seem like I'm the bad guy here.'

'Did your husband not walk in on you and Mr Anoa'i on Christmas Eve half naked?' Randy's lawyer asked. 'Did you not have sex with Mr Anoa'i that day?' I glanced at Randy, who was sat next to his lawyer, smirking.

'Objection,' Daniel shouted again. 'Judge Shepperton, my client has admitted to sleeping with Mr Anoa'i on the day in question, but that is irrelevant to the case.'

'Sustained. Mr Carter, please stick to the matter at hand. Are you okay to continue, Mrs Galloway?'

'Yes,' I nodded. I took a deep breath and found Drew in the public gallery.

'Mrs Galloway, the night of 31st December 2018, you were hosting a New Year's Eve party at your residence, is that correct?'

'Yes.'

'Can you tell me why we have video footage of you kissing and cuddling with a Mr Heath Miller?' CCTV footage was shown to the jury. I watched and rolled my eyes.

'That was not New Year's Eve. Cross reference that with the dress I was wearing that night, 2 different outfits.'

'Are you accusing my client of tampering with evidence?'

'That was from the day I came home from the hospital, after being there for several weeks with my very poorly baby.'

'You didn't answer my question.'

'I'm not accusing Mr Orton, but somebody did, to make it look like I'm a serial cheat. I will tell you now that I have only ever had sex with one other man in my life, and that was Mr Joe Anoa'i on Christmas Eve last year. Why is my sex life on trial?'

'I will ask the questions Mrs Galloway. Are you tell me that you have never slept with the defendant?'

'That is exactly what I am saying.'

'So why was semen, with Mr Orton's DNA, found on the dress you wore on New Years Eve?'

I had been interrogated all afternoon and was relieved when the judge called it a day. As we descended the stone steps at the front of the courthouse, the press were waiting to ask questions about the day's events. Daniel told us to go home and he would deal with the press. As soon as I got into the car that was waiting for us, I let out a huge sigh. Drew placed a hand on my thigh and I looked at him.

'You okay mama?' he asked. In truth, I didn't know how to feel. It was like Randy and his lawyer were trying to make out that I was some sort of harlot. 'Fuck Randy, he's a prick and he will be going down for a very long time. They've tampered with evidence in a murder trial, that alone will carry a considerable sentence.'

'What if I did do all those things that they're saying, but I just don't remember them?'

'No, you haven't done anything of the sort. When I was on tour, you were spending all your time with Austin or Joe, they would've told me that you were sneaking around. Baby, now is not the time to start second guessing yourself.'

It was almost 7pm by the time we had picked AJ up from Cary's and got home. Drew put the tv on in the kitchen as I started making dinner.

'We have breaking news. We have just this minute received word that WWE superstar Randy Orton has admitted to the murder of Bethany Moore, younger sister of Katelyn Galloway, the wife of WWE superstar Drew McIntyre. We cross live to the courthouse in Orlando where our correspondent, Nell Taylor has been covering the trial for the last 3 day.' I dropped the saucepan that was in my hand.

'What?' I said, not believing my ears. Drew's phone rang and he answered, putting it on loudspeaker.

'Andrew, Katelyn, I assume you've heard the news?' came Daniel's voice.

'Is this for real?' I said.

'Yes, I got the call from Judge Shepperton about half an hour ago. He and his lawyer confessed to altering with the video evidence and Randy admitted all the charges against him. We have to be at the courthouse tomorrow morning for 10am for the sentencing. I'll see you then.' Daniel said his goodbyes and clicked off. I collapsed into the nearest chair.

'Holy shit! I don't believe it. It's over. It's all over.'

That night I slept comfortably for the first time in weeks.
