《Relief》Chapter Six

DREW'S POV

I had seen Randy put something in her drink, but it had been too late for me to warn her. By the time Jimmy and I had gotten out of the pool, Katelyn had already collapsed.

I had been sat in the waiting room of the nearest hospital with Adam, Finn, Jinder and Heath, for the past 8 hours, waiting for any news on my wife. Nobody would tell me anything. The 4 men kept reassuring me that no news is good news. Adam had been smart enough to grab the cup of liquid so that the hospital could test it and see what was in it. I got up again, couldn't stop pacing. Jimmy text me, saying that Randy had been arrested and carted away. Good. He's a prick.

Just as I began pacing for the 100th time, a doctor came out of a side room and walked toward us.

'Mr Galloway?' she said.

'Yeah, that's me.'

'Would you like to come somewhere private, so we can talk?' I immediately stopped pacing and looked at her. This wasn't good news.

'Whatever you have to say, you can say in front of us,' Jinder said.

'Yeah, we're all family,' Heath agreed.

'Fine,' the doctor sighed. 'Follow me.' We all followed her down the corridor to a room with a table in the centre and 8 chairs around it. We filed in and sat down as the doctor closed the door behind us and turned to look at us. 'Mr Galloway, I'm sure you were aware that your wife was pregnant...'

'Was?' I repeated.

'Katelyn miscarried the baby.' I stared out of the window at the LA skyline. 'When she collapsed, she must've hit hard on the floor, which caused her to bleed and she lost the baby.' I felt numb. Sure, I wasn't enthralled with having another child so soon after AJ, but that was a life we had created. Now it was gone. I pushed my chair back and stood up.

'I need to see my wife.'

'Mr Galloway, Katelyn had excessive scarring in her womb, something we think was there for a while, she's currently in recovery, we had to perform a hysterectomy. '

'WHAT?' I roared, throwing my chair across the room, then collapsed to my knees, my head in my hands. 'You can't just take out people's body parts without consent. I never signed anything.'

'Actually we can. It was a matter of life or death. Katelyn was hemorrhaging profusely, it was my decision to save your wife's life. I'm sorry I didnt consult you first, but there was no time. I made a split second decision to perform the surgery and I do not regret that decision.' The doctor stood up and began to walk out of the door, but turned as she reached the door. 'Mr Galloway, I'm sorry for your loss. Your wife will be in room 716 when she comes out of recovery. I have to get to my other patients, but my understudy, Dr Creighton, will be up there with Katelyn. He is one of the best in the field. Take as long as you need in here.'

'Thank you,' I heard Heath say to her before she left and shut the door behind her. 'Dude, you okay? Stupid question, I know.'

'The next time I lay eyes on him, I'm going to kill the bastard. First Joe, now Randy. Why do they all keep targeting Kate? She's a good person, she would never hurt anyone.' I began to sob, not caring that there was 4 other men in the room with me. 'I have to get her out of this situation. She can't be around people like that.'

'You can't make her quit her job,' Adam said. 'She loves her job.'

'I know, but one day she might get killed.'

'You can't protect her forever,' Jinder said.

'Of course I can. She's my wife. It's my job,' I screamed at him. I stood up and walked out of the room. I didn't stop until I had ridden down to the lobby and was sat on a bench in the rain.

KATELYN'S POV

I woke up to the sounds of beeping, I could barely move my hand. I looked down my body and saw Drew asleep in the chair next to me, his hand gripping my own, and Heath and Adam asleep on either ends of the couch.

'Drew?' I said, my voice barely a whisper. His head shot up, his eyes were bloodshot and he looked terrible. I bet I didn't look much better though.

'Katelyn, baby girl, I'm so sorry,' he breathed.

'What happened? All I remember is getting out of the pool, having a drink and then I passed out.'

'Your drink was spiked. Randy drugged you, I think he wanted to hurt you, like Joe did.'

'Is the baby okay?' He choked back a sob.

'You lost the baby. They had to do emergency surgery and take your womb out because you were bleeding too much. They have you a transfusion. It could've killed you.'

'Oh,' was all I could say. I had lost our baby. And now we couldn't have any more. AJ would never be a big brother.

'Randy has been arrested and Hunter and Steph fired him instantly. This time we are pressing charges.'

'Oh,' I said again. I felt numb, like I did after the birth of the twins. I could feel that black wave of depression hit me.

'Katelyn, I want you to stop working. We can live on my wage and with Austin buying the house in Orlando from us, that will give us a nice little nest egg.'

'I lose another baby and you want to take away my livelihood?' I shouted, waking Heath and Adam. 'No fucking chance. This is all your fault Drew. I didn't even want to go to that stupid party and now I have miscarried my baby...'

'It was my baby too, in case you forgot.'

'I'm not stopping working Drew.'

'Fine, then think about what's most important to you. Your job or your marriage.' I watched, helpless, as Drew let go of my hand and stormed out of the room. I tried to fight back tears, but they still came in big, heavy sobs.

'Hey, baby girl,' Heath said soothingly, moving across the small room and sitting on the bed next to me. 'Give him some time. It's been a bad few days. We've all be super worried about you. Drew has barely slept and I think being away from AJ is getting to him too.'

'Oh, Heath, what am I meant to do?'

'You want my honest opinion?' I nodded. 'I think he's right. Maybe you should think about leaving the company. You've had nothing but trouble since day one. Maybe you can find something else to do, or just enjoy watching AJ grow up. You can be a stay at home mom and then you don't have to worry about getting a new nanny.' I sighed, knowing that both men were right.
