《Haurutsuki: Beautiful Snow》23. What Do We Have to Lose?

They woke up with a jolt a few minutes later, and found themselves chained up with their backs against a rocky wall. Cave water leaked from the ceiling to their heads and fell into the cold puddle dangling above them. They frantically looked around to make sure the others were okay. Miyuki stood in the middle, her hands chained above her head, while her feet were chained above the ground. Below her, the chains tied to a heavy boulder. Ryuu and Katsu were stuck in the same dilemma. They sighed, relieved to still be alive and at each other's side. Just then, they heard voices outside their cave prison's entrance, "We attack at dawn. But why do we have to babysit these guys? We should've just finished them off with the old Lord." One said.
"Lord Osamu has a soft spot for them. He's been watching over them since they joined the Rakurai." The other answered. "So, what? Wasn't he friends with the former Head too?" The first guard asked. "That's different and you know it. He's been treating everyone, even his own kids, like the scum of the Earth since he lost his wife." The trio's eyes widened, and they shut them, hoping the words would be drown out. "Miyuki... Can you break us free with the water around here?" Ryuu whispered. "I could try." She whispered back. She closed her eyes and tried to concentrate. Slowly, the water that had soaked her chains began to crackle and turn to frost. Abruptly, they snapped, freeing Miyuki and causing her to land to the ground. "Awesome job. Do Katsu next." Ryuu excitedly whispered. She smiled, "How about I do you one better?" And with a single hand, she waved the water from the growing pool below them upwards, and used it to slice through there wrist restraints.
The two boys landed simultaneously, "Sweet!" Ryuu exclaimed as quietly as possible. "Now to deal with the guards." She stated, turning to march out when, "No, stop! They've sealed us in some sort of chakra barrier. We're safer keeping it up too. They can't hear us from the outside with it still in place." Katsu whispered. "So, we're just supposed to stand here!?" Ryuu stressed. "Do you want your body to catch on fire trying to bust out of it?" Katsu calmly countered. "So, now what? We can't let them go on a rampage. They'll kill innocent people before getting themselves killed in the process." Ryuu stressed. "Well, even if we did break out, it'll only alert them to come in and kill us. We need a way to neutralise them quietly. Any sudden explosions might alert the Mizukage to our location." She answered.

Katsu hummed in thought, "With the Great Sage's Power, huh? Could he mean the Sage of Six Paths?" He wondered aloud. "Katsu... Help..." Miyuki impatiently groaned. He gasped. "Seems like someone has an idea." Ryuu knowingly stated. "We have nothing to live for, right!?" He excitedly asked. "Uhr..." Ryuu trailed off, slightly confused. "My idea might kill us, so... Do we have anything to live for after all this is over?"
"Uhm, well... Our parents are dead, our Clan has gone down the deep end. And the entire Blood Mist Village is out to get us so, no. Not really." Miyuki shrugged, somewhat sarcastic in her innocent reply. "So, you're saying we have a chance at stopping them, but we'll probably all die trying to save the outside world." Katsu nodded to his brother, "Oh. And, it's probably going to alert the Mizukage, so unless you want Obito to turn us into his dead ninja slaves, my plan will prevent even him from being able to use our remains." They gulped, afraid of what he had planned for them. She then sighed and looked up, "Akio entrusted me with his dream... He said protecting yourself will get you killed. Protecting your Clan leads to its extinction, and protecting the Village leads to wars all over the place. It sounded crazy at the time. But protecting the world... Maybe that would lead to peace. To think he was right... If I had to die today, I'd like to do it in a way that honours his dream. Just like I promised." She raised a fist to her chest, both determined and nostalgic.
Her brothers smiled at their her resolve, and she smiled too, "So... What's the plan?"
….........….........……...............………..….....................
"It's the only way." Katsu said after explaining the details. "Let me get this straight. You're expecting us to tap into the state we had with our eyes, and use a combined Jutsu assault none of us have ever done before, in order to take everyone out at once including ourselves?" She inquired. "Yes." Katsu nodded in seriousness. She gave a nervous chuckle, "Well... That's not difficult at all." She half-joked.
Just then, they heard running footsteps in the distance. Someone rounded the corner of their prison, "Lord Osamu is having everyone assemble for the plan of attack on the Hidden Mist. He wants us all in the throne room." The voice echoed. "What about the hostages?" The first guard asked. "Yeah, maybe we should-" The second guard was interrupted, "Lord Osamu insists they won't be able to penetrate his Barrier without turning to ash. Come, quickly! Dawn is almost upon us." The messenger answered. "Right!" The two guards nodded, running off with the messenger.

"Come on, Miyuki. We can do this. For the innocent!" Ryuu declared. Miyuki turned to glare, only to be met with the white lightning eyes they needed, "Ryuu, you're doing it! How are you doing it..." She frowned. "He is!?" Katsu asked, ironically the most disbelieving. He shrugged, "I don't know. I just focused on what I want, and got all fired up to protect people." He mumbled. "Miyuki, do what he did!" Katsu excitedly instructed. "How do you expect me to get fired up at a time like this!?" She argued. "Just do it! Focus on getting your chakra flowing to your eyes!" Katsu stressed before lowering his head and closing his eyes to concentrate. She sighed, doing the same.
Moments later, Katsu snapped his eyes open, and then Miyuki, revealing their glowing green and purple irises. "It's working! I can see so clearly now..." Katsu whispered, slightly surprised. "You're right! I feel like my chakra is just bursting with new power." She realised. "It's like our hearts are feeding us with new strength. Sharing it with us for one last time..." Ryuu added. The trio went silent.
"Katsu, you're up." She quietly spoke up. "Oh. Right..." Katsu grimly replied. He then raised his hands and widened his eyes, creating two small orbs in front of him. He directed them, sending the orbs to float into the side of Miyuki and Ryuu's head. The three accepted it with closed eyes, "Signed on." They said in unison. They raised their heads and exhaled a steady breath, "Ryuu, it's almost dawn. Think you'll be able do it from here?" Katsu asked in slight concern. "A Fire Jutsu in the distance that I can't see? Pssht! I could do it with my hands tied behind my back." She giggled, "Maybe I should've left him chained up." She teasingly smirked. "Yeah, yeah. Just give me some instruction, alright?" Ryuu dismissively waved off. Katsu nodded, "I need to focus on feeding you the image of the target. You need to create a Fire Jutsu directly above us, and then teleport it to the underground lake." He explained. "You really want us to die, don't you?" She flatly inquired. "It'll be fine. He can control it. Besides, in theory, Ryuu needs to make contact with the flames in order for it to teleport, not us." Katsu explained. "In theory!? Oh gees..." She worried. "Relax, Big Sister. If Katsu says we'll make it out okay, then we'll make it out okay." She frowned, "You always were too trusting." She pouted out.
Ryuu sighed, "Ready, Katsu?" He gulped, "I'll send you the image of the scroll for performing the Jutsu now... Just do it, before I come to my senses." He replied, shutting his eyes. "Right!" Ryuu replied, pumping himself up from where he stood in front of them. The memory Katsu had of everything to do with the Jutsu, came into Ryuu's mind eye. Instantly, he knew what to do. "Get ready. I'm drawing on it from the ground below us. Haaa..." Miyuki nervously covered her eyes and braced herself. Ryuu snapped his eyes open, ""
Suddenly, the ground in front of his feet burst open in the form of flames. "AAAAH!" Miyuki and Katsu screeched from the heat they felt pass right before them. "Katsu the lake!" Ryuu grunted out. "Right!" He replied, sending him the geographic location of the lake telepathically. "Alright! Come on!" Ryuu yelled to the pillar of fire, and just before hitting the rock ceiling, it turned down to form an arch and headed straight over Miyuki and Katsu's head. They exclaimed in panic, a rush of pure fiery heat washing over them to reach the ground on the other side. "It's too hot!" She stressed, feeling herself be drenched in beads of sweat. "Ryuu transport it before it cooks us inside the Barrier!" Katsu yelled. "I'm trying! Haaa... HEYAH!"
The flames suddenly dispersed. Miyuki opened her eyes to see the flames shrink into thin air. The three panted, heavy with relief. "That was too close." She panted out. Ryuu gave a light chuckle, "Heh... Did it make it?"
