《The Assassins of Skyrim |Skyrim Fanfiction|》Chapter 21 Rapier

"You can find him in the Ratway in Riften. He's likely to be well hidden, so don't expect it to be easy," Delphine said. "You don't want to ask around for him either. His name is Esbern."

"Riften?" I asked. "I know it's home to the Thieves Guild and is by far the best city ever, but by Talos why hide there?"

Delphine glared at me and didn't answer my question.

"To Riften then," Archer said. "I personally hate Riften, but you know..."

"I can get us horses," Shay said. "I'll meet you all up at the Guardian Stones at sunset with three horses."

I sighed. "Alright. We shall wait for you."

A blast of wind and lightning shot by. Archer grinned and shouted. "YOU WENT TO FAR BUDDY!"

An enormous cloud of dust sprang up around a man in a red suit with a yellow lighting symbol on his chest. "I know. I'm fixing that."

"Okay. Just thought I'd mention it."

The man shot away again as Shay was starting up the slope with the three horses. Vigilant barked next to my leg and bounded down to Shay. Shadowmere just snorted and flicked her tail in a bored sort of way.

"Who was that?" Kharjo asked.

"That was The Flash. He shows up once in a while, sometimes he's with his sister, but not usually. He always shows up when he's gone too far. It's kind of funny when you think about it," Archer said, his eyes were fixed on Bleak Falls Barrow on the peak opposite us, it was right up against the sun, but Archer didn't squint. "Last time he showed up he took out an entire army for Shay and I."

Shay was panting when he got up to us. "Here. Let's go."

I swung myself onto Shadowmere's back and sat there, waiting for everyone else to mount their horses. All of the horses seemed to be wary of Shadowmere, who's head was held high. I knew she wanted to be the leader and wouldn't listen if I made her walk in the back.

"I'll lead the way," I said. "I'll end up in that position anyway."

Shadowmere turned her head and gave me an annoyed look that clearly said, 'I think you mean I would end up in the front. You're just along for the ride.'

"Go ahead," Archer said, pulling on his horse's reins as it pranced on the spot. "Hold still!"

I checked to make sure Shay and Kharjo were ready before I nudged Shadowmere into a trot and started down the road, through Riverwood to the sign marked Riften.

Archer's horse whinnied and reared back. "Whoa!" Archer said.

His horse landed and stomped, eyes wild with fear.

"Archer what did you do?" I asked, turning Shadowmere around to look at him.

"It's Kynareth's fault," he said through gritted teeth. "She never liked horses. I've only ever run across one who didn't care about me and you're riding her."

"Switch," I said. I jumped out of Shadowmere's saddle and started toward Archer's crazy horse.

Archer quickly got off as soon as I had the reins securely in my hand. As soon as I'd seen that Archer got on Shadowmere safely I vaulted onto the white stallion's back.

Without warning, three words popped up in my mind. "Raan mir tah," I whispered in the horse's ear.

He calmed instantly and looked up at me. I liked him much better when he wasn't trying to throw me down the mountain.

"How did you do that?" Archer asked curiously. "Did you use the Dragonborn power? What did you say?"

"Raan mir tah," I said. "Animal, allegiance, pack. I guess it makes animals work for you."

Archer grinned. "Obviously."

Shay huffed impatiently. "If you two are done playing with magic can we get moving again please?"
